We were heading for a quick getaway to LaPax from our kitchen remodel in San Jose del Cabo and were referred to Gail and Chalo's place. It was perfect! We brought our teen-aged daughter along, and our large suite had a separate room for her. Our beautiful, spacious suite had a fabulous view with large lounging deck. They are all so friendly and the breakfast was made with care - Mexican scramble, fresh fruit, homemade bread (to die for) and what tasted like homemade jams/jellies. This was really a great escape for us as we just love LaPaz. I must also comment on the great pool, with high walls that block the wind, but not the sun. Really great spot. We'll always stay there on our "get-aways" to LaPaz. Thanks Gail & Chalo - your directions for "the back-roads" back to San Jose del Cabo were great. Much more fun scenery. We lunched in La Ventana while watching the wind surfers.

Room Tip: 3rd floor view is well worth the extra $$

We had a great stay here, Gail, Chalo and Brad are a great team and very helpful and friendly.
Each suite has a large master bedroom with ensuite shower room, a futher double bedroom and a seperate shower room, sittingroom, dining table and a well equiped kitchen with 4 electric rings, a microwave and a coffee machine (no kettle so if you want tea you have to boil a pan of water - no great hardship). There are sliding glass doors leading from both the master bedroom and sitting room onto a very large spacious balcony looking out over the Malecon and the Sea of Cortez beyond, this gets the evening sun so is a great place to sit with a drink watching the amazing sunsets. (will try to add pics).
There is a very handy manual in the room which gives hints and tips on the hotel, local restaurants, bars etc. Gail and Chalo can arrange various trips for you, however they do not promote this so we had booked ours through the (very helpful) tourist information centre before we found out by chance that they could make these arrangements for us.
Breakfast everyday is toast, fruit and mexican eggs. This is probably fine if you are only staying a few days, but as we were there for a fortnight it was pretty monotonous. However Gail does make her own bread, so we tended to just have lots of toast. The coffee at breakfast was very weak, but as there is a machine in your room you can make a stonger brew for yourself!
The balconies have decorative metal bars seperating them so are completely secure, however they do not give privacy. This is no problem if you wish to chat to your neighbours whilst out there, but caused a problem for us when the people 2 doors up were smoking on their balcony, the smoke difted straight over to us and we had to go inside and close the doors to avoid the smoke on several occasions. I did mention this to Gail and she has told me they intend to put walls up between the rooms on the balconies, so it will mean more privacy and help with the smoke problem.
The hotel is situated one street back in a elevated position overlooking the tail end of the Malecon. This is a good location, just right for a stroll into town to eat dinner, however it also means that you get the street noise from cars cruising up and down the Malecon all evening and well into the night. This goes on till about 3am most nights and then you are woken at 7.30am every morning by a car driving around with a loud hailer blaring! I have no idea what it is all about, but it's very annoying when you are trying to get a bit of extra sleep on holiday!
Gail, Chalo and Brad treated us like family, to the extent that when I was ill and went to reception to ask where the nearest pharmacy was, Chalo took one look at me and insisted on driving me to the pharmacy himself, even coming in with me to expain in Spanish what I needed - well beyond what one would expect from any other hotel. We had other great experiences with them, but don't want to spoil all the surprises for you - suffice to say you could not find better hosts

Room Tip: All rooms have large balcony with view to maelcon & sea, higher floors have less interupted view...

Originally we booked the Nest suite in the nearby Colibri Hotel but when we arrived there we were told that our room was only available for two of the three nights we had booked despite putting a deposit down through paypal-not a good start! However things took a turn for the better as we were offered a suite in Las Gaviotas, being owned by the same people, as an alternative. Las Gaviotas used to be privately owned condos and each room has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, 1 of which is en suite, as well as decent kitchenettes. The communal area is spacious and there are large balconies with table and chairs which overlook the Sea of Cortez as well as the sinking sun and the Malecon sea front walkway.
If you have rented a car then this place has a sizeable, secure, private carpark-just the job.The pool is an attraction also, being large and in shade for the heat of the day, you also get a plentiful supply of humming birds flitting around due to the feeders left hanging from the trees at poolside. Gail, the owner, is usually about to discuss any outings you may wish to plan and is full of good advice. Breakfast is a fairly basic one of eggs and fried potatoes but the coffee is excellent and plentiful and the fresh fruit is just that.
The must-do trip for me is to the Espiritu Santo island to snorkel with sealions, I got bitten by one (see photo below) but would still put it in my all time top 5 holiday outings-just an amazing experience. We even got escorted to our dive at one point by dolphins.
I would recommend this hotel for everyone, although families and couples who wish to share make most sense with the 2 bedrooms, as it ticks all the boxes and represents good value for money.

Room Tip: The higher up the building you are the better.

The views, sunsets, the service, the personalities and the good karma, made our visit to La Paz, a memorable experience. Our great hosts, propietors Gail, Chalo and their right hand Brad made eveyday having breadfast by the pool a fantastic way to wake up, literally smelling the freshly brewed coffee. Don't expect a cookie cutter approach to this hotel, its like being home and being taken care by a loving family. Don't worry you won;t have to wash the dishes. Comfort, fun, caring ownership what else can you ask for !

We were greeted by the husband and wife team upon our arrival. Welcome home they said!
They upgraded our room to a larger suite at no charge. Our balcony view was incredible. We had the Sea of Cortez, the many fishing boats, the sunset to die for, and view of the Melacon.
Our visit had us at the end of their cities carnival. Imagine a small town fair that we grew up with only Mexican style. It was very special. The location offers many restaurants and shops close by. They have a nice pool and its secluded from the regular happenings of the site.
Our morning was greeted with a home cooked breakfast prepared by the owners.
We will be back as before we left it was like when we leave the lake after the weekend - make sure you say your good bye's.

Room Tip: Tell them its good to be home again! Ask for the suite as it offers all the amenities of home.

We enjoyed staying at this small hotel in la Paz on our first visit here. We wanted to be down in the old town, but not too central, and the location was perfect. The rooms were large and comfortable, with a nice balcony, and they provide a nice breakfast and great service. The walls were a little thin, from a noise perspective, but otherwise we were pretty happy. We overpaid by booking on Expedia - a direct contact would have saved us significant $...
