A wonderfully run, friendly, family-operated hotel, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds and delicious, home-cooked breakfasts. Views from the top floors are beautiful. While towards one end of the Malecon, it's an easy, pleasant stroll to the center of the tourist activities and many restaurants. Gail ( an American) and her husband are gracious, warm hosts who go out of their way to advise on restaurant, shopping and activity choices. Our family (myself and husband and our daughter and son-in-law) had the huge suite 3-D, and they were all delighted with my choice of this hotel---we loved it, and wholeheartedly recommend it. We slept with the balcony doors open, and at times heard (muffled) cars below, but we could have opened a different window. Grea

my 84 year old father, sister, her friend, and i decided to do something a little different for thanks giving this year. so we chose la paz and las gaviotas as our destination.and what a pleasent surprise it was for all of us. i booked the hotel on-line and i had hope ful expectations for our stay here. we had the third floor corner room and when we first opened the door we were greeted with one of those oh my! moments.the room was fabulous!! super clean, spacious. colorful, and the view was world class.and our stay only got better from that point on. every morning we headed down poolside for a wonderful breakfast, with fresh cut fruit, excellent coffee,Roberto's fresh home made bread[WOW],fresh squeezed juice eggs with fresh veggies, ham, and cheese, around a poolside setting that was paradise! humming birds , orioles, and a neighbor osprey were our daily guests, and linda and her staff are excellent hosts. linda batted a 1000 on her recommendations for dining, sights and adventures. really it felt like home here and i was sad to have to leave and go back to home in san diego. but we well be back often and not soon enough.

Room Tip: we were in 3a on the south corner with incredible views of the bay and south side of the city.really...

My family of 7 stayed here in 2 units next to each other. Gail is very responsive via e-mail and our rooms were right next to each other as requested. She helped us navigate to and from La Paz by air and bus. Our kids had a blast in the pool! Adults who wanted to explore the town could easily do so from this great location too. The Malecon is a lovely and safe walkway for miles on the sea, accessed from a quick walk down the street. The units are very comfortable and have all the ammenities for a comfortable stay. I am taking an e-course and had no problem doing some quick homework with the wi-fi service. Gail and Chalo are wonderful people! They and their staff will help you decide and make connections with local guides for daytrips, fishing etc... The morning breakfasts were a great start to the day. The fresh made bread was soo good. We were able to walk to great dinner spots every night. Our favs were Rancho Viejo, and Tailhunters. If we ever come back, we would definately stay here again!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor. 3B and 3C. Loved them. Sitting out on the patio in the mornings drinking...

A group of five travel weary women arrived at this Hotel in the evening before heading out on a kayak trip. We were greeted by the very friendly owners and staff. Our top floor room accommodated all of us very comfortably. We enjoyed an evening cocktail on our beautiful porch overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Breakfast in the morning poolside was fabulous. The hotel was very clean and situated walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

What a pleasure it was to discover this quaint little resort on the malycon in La Paz. They also have a B&B adjancent to the resort. I had lived in la Paz for a year a couple of years ago and never knew about this great place to stay. The rooms were spacious, clean and organized very thoughfully with everything you would need. A special book is written and left on the coffee table for you to find things to do. Don't miss the hot breakfast cooked for you and served poolside by the owners Chalo & Gail. Thanks so much for your great service and I'm sure we will see you again. Ann & Bill Schaul

Room Tip: All the rooms are good!

We were welcomed by the owner and taken to our very spacious suite, the kitchen is very complete and the view from the terrace spectacular. Took a great swimming yoga lesson that was the perfect start for a great day taking the sights.

We were on our way up from the South of Baja and needed a place to stay for the night. The owner, I forget his name, was in the lobby. He was super friendly and welcoming.

He showed us a room on the 4th floor (top floor) that had 2 bedrooms and a great view and gave us access to his personal internet for our use. We parked our car in their secure parking garage which is spacious and secure.

I'm not going to dance around it. The rooms are not furnished that modern. Its older mexican style furnishings. At first glance the room wasn't impressive.

But with a great view and a very comfortable bed just a block up from the Malecon (the main boardwalk along the water) we thought it was good value.

We had a great sleep. It was quiet and comfortable.

In the morning they had breakfast included which was served with fruit, juice, toast, coffe and eggs of your choice.

The best part of this hotel was the location. There are some great little restaurants within a few blocks and the main boardwalk is just one block down the hill where you can find any kind of food you want.

A few things to note:
- This is not a resort. Its a hotel a block up from the beach / boardwalk.
- Their hotel internet doesn't work. It hasn't for some time. So you either need to stay in a unit beside or below the owner's unit or you are out of luck.
- the AC functioned no more than a fan. The air wasn't cool coming from the AC unit no matter how much we adjusted the thermostat.

There isn't a lot to choose from in la paz so based on the service and location we would recommend Gaviotas to our friends!
