We visited Eberhard & Renate for 16 days this February. We had a terrific time. We were there last year and found 1 week was not enough. We were warmly welcomed like old friends. We stayed in the
Flores de Jamaica again as we loved the casita so much last year. Lots of beautiful birds arrive if you put oranges in the trees for them, and you can enjoy them as you dine on the patio. The lovely little dog from across the road will come & visit, so if you are missing your dog while you are travelling she will be happy to go for beach walks with you. Her name is Cupita. She's a real cutie. The resident dogs
will also swing by to welcome you. (Findel & Bongo) So you will never be dogless!
We had a very quiet & relaxing trip with lovely beach walks & days reading by the pool. Eberhard & Renate also took us to our dental appointments & translated for us, as Jorge's english is a bit limited.
Probably better than our spanish tho! Renate also took me shopping for some beautiful Mexican fabric
so I can do some redecorating. You will see all the beautiful curtains and furniture covers she has made in all the casitas. A very talented lady.
If you want a warm welcome, knowledgeable & heplful hosts, and a peaceful and relaxing holiday this
place is for you. La Paz is a beautiful city with a gorgeous malecon and good shopping and great restaurants. We were there in time for Carnaval. Check it out! It is absolutely fabulous, with parades and parties for a week.
We are looking forward to our next visit already & we've only been home a week.
See you next year amigos!!

Room Tip: Go to the web site & check out the photos & decide which is the casita for you

Do not go to Hacienda del Sol if you like loud music, wild parties and a handy bar to drink Tequila. For that matter if that is why you are in Baja I would rather you stayed in Cabo because I am planning on going back to La Paz. However if you want a relaxing and entertaining vacation in a quiet residential neighborhood this is the place! This is not a city luxury hotel this is a place with the comforts of home and country hospitality.

My wife and I just came back from staying a week in the Honeymoon bungalow “Flor de Jamaica” and we just loved it. We feel the same about the owners Eberhard and Renate. Eberhard has enthusastic opinions about what you should see and do according to what you are interested in and for us he was right every time. He seemed to be genuinely concerned about our welfare and gave us the information we needed to understand the area and enjoy our vacation. My wife said it was like staying with a relative in a foreign country and getting the local knowledge. Eberhard loves Mexico and the Mexican people.

The location was very good for us. In the morning we walked one block to the beach to watch the sunrise and in the evening we could look across the Bahia del La Paz back at the city lights. We were close enough to the city for stores and restaurants but often we drove around La Paz to visit the beaches and countryside. Once I got used to the rolling stops and the topes (big speed bumps) I decided I would rather drive in Baja California Sur than back home in Washington State even though the roads are good but a little inconsistent. Drivers in Baja seem to pay more attention (keeps them from falling into potholes or washouts) and to be more courteous.

Thanks to our comfortable lodgings at Hacienda del Sol, Eberhard and Renate, the local people and the beautiful country we had the best vacation. All the comforts of home without the down coats and the stocking hats!

Room Tip: The Flor de Jamaica also has stairs to a tiled roof for lounging

We have such good memories of our month in la Paz and especially of our time at Hacienda Del Sol. It is such a wonderful place for those of us who love nature and enjoy privacy in safe peaceful surroundings. We stayed in both a cabana and the one bedroom unit. We loved both for different reasons. The grounds are unique in its spacious spacing of the units and its gorgeous landscaping. We did start to refer to it as "Paradise". Our special memories include the hosts, Eberhard and Renate, Cella, the resident cat, the breakfasts on the patio, the sunsets from the rooftop , and the gorgeous bougainvilla and cactus out the bedroom window of Sonrisa. We also enjoyed our walks along the beach and around the neighborhood. Having the use of a car was a special bonus, as we had not planned for a car, thinking we could manage with buses, as we previously done in Mexico. However La Paz is much different from other parts of Mexico that we have visited, and many of those differences are what appeals to us . Our favorite place was the road to San Juan de la Costa with beaches for snorkelling and shell-picking. Our favorite day was the snorkeling trip to swim with the sea lions. Both were recommended and arranged by our hosts. They both made us feel welcome and provided some structure to get us started, suggesting places to see, and checking that we were happy. We are recommending the Hacienda to friends who don't care about active and noisy nightlife, but enjoy having full days exploring and quiet nights enjoying the sunsets and reflection of the cactus in the pool. We hope to return .

Room Tip: Sonrisa was perfect for light, but I suspect that a cabana room would be cooler in hot weather. Pa...

My wife and I recently spent a week at Hacienda de Sol. We were in Casa Sonrisa which is a one bedroom casita with a 1400 year old cactus in the front yard. So nice to have a kitchenette and lots of space verses a hotel room in La Paz.
The owners, Eberhard and Renate have quite an interesting story. They are most gracious and helpful. Eberhard always has a recommendation for your trip of the day. Hacienda del Sol is a very peaceful neighborhood about 15 minutes from La Paz. A car is necessary and there is sometimes the possibility of a loner from Eberhard. Snorkeling/scuba trip to Isla Espiru Santo is a must.

We live in Cabo San Lucas and it is always a pleasure to 'get away'from town even if it is for a few days and we especially love La Paz - NO TIMESNARE. Because it was not only our fourth anniversary, it was also our furry girl Kia's first so we decided to take a few days and her with us. Not too many places here cater to pets, especially large ones like our German Shepherd but my wife searched T/A and came up with the Hacienda Del Sol.

As Silvia is from Austria and fluent in German as well, talking with Eberhard was all it took to secure the 'honeymoon' bungalow for the weekend. When we arrived, Eberhard met us with a huge smile and a bit of a tease as we missed his explicit directions to turn at the first tope and pulled into the wrong driveway. After big bear hugs and greetings in both German, English mixed along with Spanish accepts, he showed us to our little house and for the next 30 minutes went on to highlight all the important sights to see, places to eat that would accept our dog and telling us the history of he and his wife's 30 years in the area.

You've got to love a man who is so involved with all the local charities and happy to tell you that if there are any troubles with anyone at all, to say we are friends of EL Doctor Almon and to call him at anytime day or night. We accidentally would met up with Renate on her bicycle during our morning and evening walks on the beach and enjoyed hearing some of the history of the area and all that they were involved in since moving there.

Our casita was very private, quiet, charming and well kept. It had wonderful hacienda furnishings but with a therapeutic kingsized mattress and offered a fully furnished kitchen and roof top sitting area. We were a three minute stroll to the swimable beach that is deserted on the weekdays but rather busy Saturday and Sunday. While he is about 10 miles from the beginning of the waterfront in town, the drive really is not bad and you can easily find your way back at night.

We truly enjoyed our little get-a-way and not only will reccommend them to our friends but will happily return ourselves.

If you are looking for local flavor, which is why you are in Mexico to being with, you really should stay with Eberhard and Renata.

kindest regards,

Rick, Silvia & Kia

It was now the fifth time that we visited La Paz and enjoyed the Hacienda del Sol, but this time we also chartered their sailboat and had incredible 10 days in the Sea of Cortes.
Eberhard took the time to tell us all about the fantastic places to see, where to go and where to fish.
Baja is beautiful by land and sea and if you find a place like the Hacienda, nothing can be better.
It is always a perfect vacation.
We had a few warm days in May, but then it came down to 80F again, which seems to be normal for this time of the year.
With the dry climate, it is still comfortable.
We travel a lot in Canada, US, Mexico and Europe, but it is very hard to find a place like the Hacienda and the wonderful people.

Room Tip: Try to charter the sailboat for a week or have a day - trip with their Hobby Cat catamaran

Starting with the weather, the whole experience was nice & warm. Eberhard & Renate were really great hosts. Always very helpful in all the ways you can think of & more that you do not think of 'cause you do not live there ! It is really quiet so if you are looking to be entertained with noisy things, then this is not for you. The beach is a short walk away, nice & sandy, very calm, easy to swim in. The local people are very friendly, shopping at the local stores is a really great experience & a lot of fun. I am looking forward to going back again !
