Las Rocas Resort & Spa
Ranked #3 of 15 Hotels in Rosarito
Reviewed 6 July 2013

I spent a weekend here with my friend. OK, listen up folks. This isn't Cabo and this isn't Cancun. It's Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, as the Wolfman used to say. If you go to Las Rocas with that in mind, you'll have a fun time.

The hotel is a little worn and needs refreshing. But the ocean views are great and the pool area and bar is plenty good enough. A 5-star resort? No way. Fun? Hell, yeah!! Reasonably cheap too.

We had a Junior Suite which cost a little over $100/night, and that was on a weekend in high season. The room was decent and really not that noisy, but we were on the southern end of the resort. I heard complaints from people who had rooms near the bar (loud music). Also, I thought the bed was fine.

Had a good time laying out by the pool drinking and also hanging out at the pool bar. Went down to Puerto Nuevo for lobster dinner and then up to Rosarito to check out a club or 2. Stayed up late and got up late. If you're planning on going to bed at 10 PM, you're at the wrong place.

Was everything working in the room? No, of course not. Was the TV broken? Of course it was. But I didn't go there to watch TV. And guess what, I would go back. So go ahead, judge me.

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time and got the "couples getaway" package. About 270 dollars for two nights (Fri-Sun in June). We got a bottle of wine with dinner, a free dinner, free breakfast, two 30 min message, sauna, and welcome margs. The resort is old, but that is what makes the character. In all honestly, you get what you pay for, 270 bucks was a steal! We had a blast, the staff is extremely nice and it was a great trip. We will be coming back.

Don't be fooled by the term "Resort and Spa". While they do offer spa services, this place is not what most people would consider a "Resort". It is an older hotel in need of repairs. The older style gives it character, but it needs repairs such as rotted wood around the windows and doors, light fixtures that don't work and the couch in our room was just scary. I'm sure there was enough DNA on it to create a person. The Jr. Suite comes with a fridge and micro wave, the standard room does not. All rooms have an ocean view, however, some of the rooms on the lower floors have an obstructed view. BEWARE, if you plan to sleep before 1 am, do not take rooms 201, 202, 301, 302, 401, 402. They are next to the dance floor, and while being small in size, it is extremely loud and your walls will be thumping and the occasional intoxicated person singing over the microphone until 1 to 3am. They offer a Sunday brunch for $12. It's OK. Some fruit, omelet bar, pancakes, juice and Mexican dishes. There is a cabana bar by the pool that serves decent drinks and appetizers. The pool and Jacuzzi are nice but also could use some work. There is no beach, but there is access by the pool to go down to the rocky area below. We will go to Las Rocas again, however, we will either stay in a standard room, which is away from the dance room or insist on a Jr. Suite at the far end of the building and higher up. To get to Las Rocas, take the toll road from TJ, the cost is $2.45. Get off the toll road in Rosarito and drive through town on the free road. If you stay on the toll road past the Rosarito off ramp, you will pay another toll and be stuck on the toll road for 5 miles past the hotel. Stay on the free road through town and continue 5 miles past the Rosarito Beach Hotel. You can't miss Las Rocas because there is a 75 foot statue of Jesus on a hill directly across the street from Las Rocas. If you are not looking for a high end resort and are not scared off by quirky, this place has gorgeous views at a good price.

Room Tip: Rooms 201, 202, 301, 302, 401,402 are next to the dance floor and you will not sleep before 1-3 am d...

I have gone to Las Rocas Resort about 3 time with my BF and we love the place because it is a beautiful location and all rooms are ocean view. How ever this was the first time we invited other people to come out to las rocas for memorial weekend. It was a total of 8 of us. 3 couples. I must tell you we were treated terrible...! We are all american with latin decent. It seems las rocas only caters to americans that actually look white..! NOT COOL!! It was my friends Hubbys bday and she wanted to have a nice dinner for him at the restaurant they have there.. Well bad idea we should have gone out to the town. All 8of us were there at the same time order our dinners at the same time, mind you the place was empty.. While we wait for out orders other people start to come to the restaurant. We see all the waiters at 100% catering to all the new guest. They even all got there food first. We complained to the waiter who said we could leave if we like. Not nice. When they finally brought our food we were all burned out already from the 2hr sitting time we had. They brought the food at all difrent times we did not get to start eating all togethet. Then some of the plates were cold we had to return them. The food was good. How ever the service towards us was horrible. We complained to the waiter again and told him they were treating us badly because we are latin as we see they treat all the white people with fast service. Waiter said that was not the case. It oviously was. I feel las Rocas resort should treat all the paying customers the same. They made us wear yellow wrist bands all weekend to show we are staying there, but when we were in the Jacuzzi we met about 5 other individuals who said they were renting a house down the st. but would come and use the jacuzzi and pool at las rocas with out a problem security was ok with it... !! again these are white people. I have no problem with any ones race but I dont think we should be treated poorly because we are not white. Las Rocas made a very bad first impression on potential returning customers. As for the maid service they were great. Made up rooms very nice every day..
Think twice before you go to las Rocas if you are expecting good service. If you are of Latin decent they will treat you poorly take your money else were. Very disapointed at the service at las rocas..!!

Room Tip: any room is good. They are all ocean view.

Stayed in a Jr. suite 204 for one night the view from the room is right in to the outside palapa bar with a big thatched roof. it blocks a lot of the view unless you are on the patio you have a view of the ocean to the right and the pool to the left.Palapa bar closes at 6pm. We needed to leave this room and move to another due to a leak in the bathroom that was leaking right over our the toilet. Which we didn't notice till my wife went to use the restroom. They were very sorry , gave us a discount said it was fix last week and you can tell they worked on it? They moved us to 206 it was OK but couldn't use ceiling fan cause it was missing one of its blades but the good thing is both rooms had very good firm mattress beds and American TV channels .Went to sleep with the patio door open its nice that the rooms have screen doors it was nice out compared to PHX weather. The grounds are nice there is NO BEACH but you can explore in the rocks down below. Its Old like other baja hotels needs to be updated! They were taking down the signs at the top of the front entrance gate when we got there maybe its Painting time?

Room Tip: Jr suite has a mini fridge , micro and sitting area with sofa and chair its a big room.no a/c its...

Beautiful view and decent place, but noticeably decaying. All rooms have ocean views, so that's the decent part.

The first room had a fireplace that smoked out the room as the chimney was clogged.
Then there was some sewage issue on the grounds that was attended to, but we asked for another room downwind and asked for one that maybe had better wireless. They put us by the infinity pool where there was a rusted modem in the palm tree, so no internet at all at that end. Plus the new room had soot streaks to the ceiling, so we figured that fireplace wasn't going to work well and did not try.

The TV's were from the year of the flood, but the channels were good and included HBO.

The infinity pool was ok-looking, but the water was not pumped up to the infinity rim. The jacuzzi was fine, but it used to be in its own pool with rock steps through the larger pool to the jacuzzi with a waterfall coming down from the upper jacuzzi. The larger pool, the waterfall and the upper jacuzzi was not working. So we still had a soak, but you can clearly see that this would be amazing if that whole water feature was in order. PS: can only soak in afternoon and night because they run a cold water hose in the am to clean. I personally like an early morning soak, so that was out.

We booked a package that included a wine tour and lobster dinner. The wine tour was great, because we had a private driver, so we got to choose the wineries where we wanted to stop. But we would only get transport to Puerto Nuevo for lobster as an add on to the wine trip, so we passed.

We booked the two night package plus free night for $313 including tax. When we got there, we saw the sign that a two-night package was $219 + tax (around 250?) and we'd still have had the extra night free. So we paid about an extra $60 for pre-booking. So wouldn't bother pre-booking if not high season, just go there and negotiate for a good deal -- we stayed there in april and there were only a handful of other guests.

the hotel was okay, needs a little of maintaince work, needs more tv channels and a newer tv's more towels on bathrooms and bigger boilers to keep hot water working all the time, key entry needs to be more secure.

Room Tip: the one with a beach view are nice.
