Just 10 minutes from the US border, opposite the Grand Hotel on Agua Caliente Blvd, this is a superb example of a classic, higher-end, Mexican restaurant, but at very affordable prices.
The menu offers mostly contemporary regional Mexican dishes, but it also has some great Mediterranean dishes, especially Spanish. The food is superbly prepared and presented, and the table service does it full justice. As for price, my wife and I frequently go there for lunch, have a delicious à la carte 3-course meal, plus wine, and still come out under $60 for the two of us.
I don't know how long the place has been there, but it's apparently a long-time favorite with local business people and the more discerning diner.
Plan to linger the typical Mexican couple of hours over lunch (and longer over dinner). That's not to say the service is slow, but everything is individually prepared (the chef will happily modify any dish to suit your own palate/taste), and the owner seems perfectly content to let you sit there as long as you like and just enjoy the wonderful, authentic ambience of a fine Mexican restaurant. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Oh, and tip of the day, try the House red wine – it's great (and more importantly, really affordable!)
