I've been waiting to write a review of this place, because I was waiting to see if the hotel would send me a promised refund check- A month later....still no check. My husband and I stayed here about five years back and the place was in good shape-nice rooms, small, but decent pool, restaurant on premises and a well maintained golf course. Apparently, they had a Marriott affiliation then. None of this is the case any longer. The rooms are very decayed. Dusty room, frayed curtains, a bathtub you do not dare sit in, loud and rusty appliances. The pool was filthy, the furniture was rusty and there was an electrical cord dangling in the tiny (broken) Jacuzzi. The golf course is overrun with squirrels, gophers and rabbits and is so overgrown- it's more like target practice than golfing. If, like my husband, you're staying here because you want to golf- bring lots of extra balls! Oh, and they water with grey water (where they do). The smell of sewage was overwhelming. The restaurant that used to be on premise is apparently undergoing a renovation -but there is a small pizza joint and bbq across the street- only choices if you don't want to venture into Rosarito. The food at both were just adequate. We were going to stay two nights, but when we woke up covered in bug bites, and because my husband was so disappointed in the golf course, we decided to cancel our second night stay. The manager seemed apologetic and said that he'd send us a check for the night we didn't stay, but as I mentioned, he never has. I wondered at the time why he couldn't have just credited our Visa card. Now I understand that it's because he never intended to refund our money at all. This place has gone waaaaaaaay downhill, sadly. We used to recommend Real del Mar to our friends who wanted to venture into Mexico, but never again. Now we'll be directing them a few miles down the road to the Hotel Coral and Marina- which proved to be a much nicer experience!!!!
