“Good for a short stay”
Reviewed 21 April 2013

I spent two nights at the Hacienda del Mar while doing business in San Diego. The hotel is easy ot find, on the main street heading towards the Plaza Monumental bullring, and just a short 10 or 15 minute walk from the beach area of Tijuana. Pass on the hotel restaurant, and eat at any of the numerous establishments along the Playas malecon. There is no "bar", even though one is advertised, and drinks/food are expensive compared with other eating establishments. Service was fine, the room comfortable for a short stay. The only complaints were the shower water temperature; it took several minutes for the water to get just past tepidly warm, but I was impressed with the variety of channels on the TV. Excellent internet speeds, and there are several shopping and eating establishments within a short walk. Nearly all the cars in the parking lot had US plates, and it looks like most of the people staying here are visiting friends in the Tijuana Playas neighborhood. One nice thing - I was able to pick up a US cell phone signal from the 2nd floor room, as the hotel is literally only a few hundred yards from the US border. Bottled water is provided for no extra charge, and overall the stay was comfortable if not really a "romantic" place. Also, several Federal Police vehicles in the parking lot, so it seems they contract with the government for the "federales" to stay here. I would return, but only if I was looking for a place close to the US border (10 minutes away) with basic services. Pool was clean, but too cool for a dip in late April. OK room for the price.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are able to pick up cell phone signals from the US (for US travelers), avoiding e...

My wife and I went there a few months ago. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed ourselves!! We rented a room with a Jacuzzi and both had a great time using it throughout our stay. We also liked the room's corner location.
Moreover, the staff was wonderful! First, the front desk clerks were friendly and answered my questions when I placed the reservation. They even showed me a couple of rooms. Also, the housekeepers helped guide Maria to the room at check-in. (I had arranged for the location to be a surprise until we were in the room.)

Room Tip: We totally enjoyed our corner room with a Jacuzzi!

The heater was broke, the size of soap and shampoo r like two tylenols, no room service, Dirty carpets! only one towel-dont ask for more you would never get them. I asked for internet and they give me the password but they disconected the router beacuse was to late (11-45pm). When you brush teeth or shower be ready to do it with orange water because of the Noisy, old, rusted, untreated unused pipes.TV from the 80's Need a microwave? the plain rooms dont have anything electric so you had to use the one at the employees area. False advetising from the 360 view they show here! We were our own service. I recommend just to go there and look around , Playas is a small area with a lot of hotels not advertised in internet.

We needed an inexpensive room for the night because friends of ours had moved from Mexico City to a ocean view home on the hill a short distance from this Hotel. Since they did not have all the rooms furnished we were recommended this hotel and we did not see any really bad reviews in trip advisor it looked like a good bet. When we got there first thing you see is sand bagged outpost just outside the entrance with 3 to 4 machine gun carrying guards who happen to be Mexican Federal Police officers. Okay, maybe not that unusual except when you look into the court yard where cars park and there is not one private vehicle only Federal police trucks parked in every available parking spot. We thought it was maybe a crime scene or something. Oh well we get a room any way…what the hell adventure. That was in the morning so off we go with our friend s to their home for lunch and latter we go to Rosarito for dinner and way too many Cadillac’s. When get back to the hotel it is still full police because that is where they are staying in between their shifts. My wife and I being in a party mood still and make friends with a couple of young police officers and they envite us into their room for a couple of (3 in my case)shots of tequila and to show us thier machine guns. I know guns and achahol don't mix. They are from Mexico City and have to pss the time some way. Revely to our surprise is at 7:00 AM because an officer is yelling for about 40 to 50 of his troops to assemble in the court yard for the daily roll call and assignments that goes on until 8. No more sleep for us. Oh one minor point if you want a hot shower make sure you get it before 6. Ohter wise this is a very nice hotel ...I guess you can call it kinda safe but as a family experience a little werd.

Went and stayed there with my girlfriend. The hotel was very clean, safe and comfortable. The hotel is near the beach and shopping centers. Good restaurants near by all within walking distances to the: beach, shopping and fine cuisine. Staff is very good and helpful. All is a plus the only negative are the rooms are plain. They have no new modern technology. There is a gym right accross the street and very big and nice.

The carpet, although old, is dirty. I stayed with my husband and our children, 12, 10 and 2 years of age. We had the youngest run around in her socks or bare feet and had to keep on washing them. The balcony is not washed or mopped down. Location, price, and service is exccelent with that exception.

We were checking out places for people to stay for my wedding coming up. The regular rooms arent fancy by any means, but for the price not bad. The staff is VERY NICE, and everything was really CLEAN. The carpet and furnishings are Not new, nor fancy, kind of like an Old Ramada or something...but the bed was pretty comfy and the sheets were very clean and fresh. We also looked at the suites they have, and for just a bit more money they are VERY NICE and much newer looking than the regular rooms.
