“Casual Beauty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We spent 4 nights at the Haccienda Cerritos, the views from all rooms are spectacular. From one side you see the beach & all the beach activity & check the surf, from the other side you get the beautiful rocky Pacific view of the crashing waves & spectacular sunsets. The architecture is beautiful, like and old Mexico haccienda, huge carved fireplaces ( non functioning) Mexican tile work, large open spaces yet quiet and you feel like your in a huge private home.
The rooms are huge, only 10 of them. We were in bungalow 2 with a large (shared with bungalow 1) patio, jacuzzi & sm pool.
It does appear the place could use a little attention, the linens were faded, railings very rusted (think ocean air) fans need replacing..but it was very clean.
I did wish they had a sm restaurant on sited, or have a chef come in and prepare limited meals from the huge beautiful communal kitchen. Otherwise it's a sandy beach road to town to lots of great restaurants.
The staff was very friendly & helpful...

Room Tip: Specify if you want beach or rocky coast view.. Bring some food with with, well equip communal kitc...

Great place to go for sunset and they have the best piña colada! The bar tender was so much fun and makes great drinks. We did not stay here but we wish we would have! So quiet and nice! Also don't forget to look for the bookcase because it is a hidden door and you can climb all the way to the top of the tower! A must go!

We didn't stay at this hotel but some locals suggested we try it for sunset drinks (there is no on site restaurant). The hotel has a beautiful seaside terrace overlooking the Pacific. There is a pool bar open to the public, staffed by one poor bartender. On the evening we went, there were about 15-20 people on the terrace and the bartender couldn't keep up. He ran out of several things and wasn't able to make margaritas. He even had to run back and forth to the main building to make change for people. I settled for a glass of white wine that was poured from a non-labelled large jug (it was terrible). Prices are high for Mexico ($15US for 2 drinks) but you're there for the scenery.

My husband and I stayed at the Hacienda from Jan 5-11th. The view is out of this world. The staff very friendly. Our room (South Master) was huge! We felt right at home. It is very casual and we found ourselves pulling a chaise up near our patio and we sat on is everyday / night listening to the ocean. It's a must to drive there in daylight (the first time),this is also a must to stop and buy groceries on the way. There was a more local store called Soriana located just outside of Cabo once you cross the bridge. Unlike Wal-Mart no one bothers you there and they have a GREAT selection of cheese already shredded - pick up some tortillas, ingredients for guacamole, Vodka, Beer some Diet Coke and you are set. We made quesadillas everyday - again the staff is so welcoming it was like having our own private house.

Yes, their was a propane hot water situation, but what others may not tell you is that - it happens to lots of places on the beach, in fact our favorite place to eat Ruby's Sand bar didn't have propane for 2 entire days. In reality there was at least one hot tub that was hot and it made for some good chatting with other guests. The beds were comfortable, the A/C worked fine. This is a great place for couples that want peace and quiet. No wifi (well except in one area) and no TV - didn't even phase us! We played music on our iPods and played hundreds of games of Yahtzee -we can't wait to come back! Oh and the beach is amazing!! You can walk forever!

Also: Cactus Car rental is the only fair place in town - work with Antonio you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: We were in the South Master LOVED the views and the corner location. Also its right off the kitchen...

We are happy that you enjoyed yourself and felt so at home with staying in one of our private Villas. Isn't it a nice break with out TV? You seem to understand the concept of our "off the grid" feel. This is why we selected this particular stretch of beach. We really want our guests to experience an Authentic Mexican feel while staying with us. We hope you return !

The hotel is beautiful and the views of the beach as well. We stayed in the South Master which has a view of Cerritos beach and in the mornings sat out on our patio, drank the complimentary coffee and watched the sunrise and the surfers coming in.
The beach is nice for swimming and you can rent boogie boards, take surf lessons, etc.
The pool was cold! and the Jacuzzi's warm but not hot. The bar is open til 7p, can get a drink and watch the sunset.
As noted by others, no food at the hotel but if you bring your own can cook in the huge kitchen.
There are a couple small restaurants on the road nearby but your best bet is to go into Todos Santos, lots of nice restaurants.
The hotel could use a handyman to just fix lights, knobs, Jacuzzi dials, paint, etc.
We booked with a discounted coupon but took a few requests until dates were available.
We had a nice stay, very relaxing.

I have been coming to Cerritos beach for 12 years (my world favorite surf spot), I have watched the development of this place with curiosity. In general I think the reviews so far of this place are accurate. It is a ten room Hacienda Mansion that was supposedly built for a private residence but due to zoning issues it had to be made into a hotel, of sorts. As such it lacks some classic "hotel" features: no on site restaurant, no spa, just rooms (10 or so) and a couple of very large shared kitchens.

But... the location, jutting out into the Pacific, with crashing waves, view and peace and privacy. NO distractions, limited phone, limited TV, a huge pool some hot tubs (not all working, I will concede) and a great beach. A bar on site, two bars and restaurants on the adjacent beach.

We had a Bungalow with private pool and no neighbors!! The room was simply huge with three entrances, a full glass wall facing the surf and a sitting room. all for a bargain price. We had massages on site that were great. We simply shopped for breakfast supplies as breakfast was not readily available. We ate at locale restaurants that were excellent.

I long to gather together five families and rent the entire place out.

You must rent a car to get there and you will need it to go to Todos Santos for food and entertainment.

Yes, the service was near non existent, but our room was clean and kept clean every day.

I enjoyed the break from a classic hotel and will return. My wife probably appreciates the five star hotel more than the peace and quiet. but for the price it was wonderful.

Room Tip: Get the Bungalow with semi private (two room) pool, There are 4 of them.

This hotel is one of extremes unfortunately, balancing out to be at once both a stunning beautiful experience and a service and quality disappointment.

I'll start by highlighting the positives as others have done. This place is just beautiful. The views could not be better and may be the best beach Mexico views I have ever seen. On the north-west side you have unobstructed views to the ocean and wild hills, where it's easy to watch whales blowing and breaching on their way south, on the south-east side you have an exquisitely long and beautiful beach with surfers catching waves on an amazing break just next to the hotel.

The hotel itself is made with excellent construction. Beautiful thick woods, noteworthy architecture and superb Mexican tiles and tile designs (see photos). There is plenty of space for the 12 rooms of guests, the rooms are suites with plenty of room and gorgeous bathrooms.

Were it run and maintained at the level in which is was built, this would be a true gem. It is not...

The staff is nice and accommodating when asked for help, but not especially proactive. For example, tracking down towels for the kitchen, toilet paper for the bathroom (really...do we have to run around finding staff to get toilet paper for the common bath?!?!) or trying to figure out the oven, but they were not especially on top of things. For what it's worth, I think that it is not their fault. I think that this is a management disaster, so let's get into it....

The "bar" wasn't supplied. As others have pointed out, you are off the beaten path, so you want a bar that works. They ran out of limes for Margarita's and pretty much all booze. Multiple days, multiple times. You will end up needing to build your own bar in your room.

You will need to cook for yourself (fine...that's clear up front), but the supplies in the kitchen are woefully lacking. Just a good knife ($5?) would help a lot. Towels are rare. The upstairs kitchen didn't have a working .... well anything! The downstairs (beautiful) kitchen has an over but the display doesnt work, so how do you operate? (We downloaded a manual from Google and guessed at how to push the buttons) etc etc. I think it's very clear up front that you will cook for yourself and that is fine, but then not to provide a descent set of basic kitchen tools to help us...that's not acceptable.

And finally, there were just issues of people not giving a rip. For example, the dead mouse in the bar sink. I mean come on...talk about the winner of the "not my job award" (google it). This little guy sat decomposing the whole time we were there and despite me watching people walk by the since repeatedly, no one cleaned it up...gross.

So, conclusion, stop by this place to see the views and watch some whales. Bring your own booze because the bar won't have what you want (no gin, no margaritas, no pina colada, no daquires, some beer but will run out, certainly no wine) and you may not want them pouring anything until they clean up the mouse.

When they finally do get under new management (seems inevitable to me), maybe things will change....but check your TripAdvisor first to be SURE!

Room Tip: Rooms 3/4 have a fantastic sunset view. Rooms across have fantasic beach view. Both those sets have...
