Spent 10 days mid December with my wife for a surf trip to San pedrito. The Waves showed up for only half the trip bt it was amazing nonetheless. Andy is a great host and his three adorable dogs are there day and night to keep you company. The Hotel is clean and perfect for a couple or a family getaway. Help was always available with where to shop for food, eat out and anything else you might need. The nightlife is non existant with the exception of a few small local bars in Todos Santos and just about everything else is closed just after sundown. Opening hours for stores and restorants are a crapshoot at best and closing hours are even more confusing. The general rule of thumb is as soon as it's dark shops close to save on electricity.Make sure to try the taco stands where the locals eat, those tend to be the least expensive and from our experience ussually the best food.

As for surfing; The surf lineup is empty most days and the few people out there are locals and expats that tend to be in their retirement years and are only too happy share the waves. When the point is going off and serious swell hits look for most of the young local tallent to show up early, but just about everyone out there welcome a new face and even beginners were welcomed with no complaints. Bring your own boards and don't expect to see much in the way or surf shops as Todos santos is too far out and has nothing other than a few small trailer shops that they have on the nearby beach of Cerritos. Renting is not a problem for beginners but more advanced surfers won't find much in the way of boards. That being said Andy has now ammased a nice little collection of 12+ boards and bags (second hand )that he sells right in the hotel. Anywhere from $50 to $200 for some nice if slightly used boards.

If you're looking for the craziness of the Cabo nightlife and all night drinking, look elsewhere. San pedrito is an amazing spot to surf, kick back, enjoy a beer and an epic sunset and then fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Definitely one of the best places I've stayed, and would recommend it in a heartbeat.

If one recommendation, make sure to drive there during daylight as finding the place at night is not fun. The signs on the highway are hard to see (along with the cows and donkeys that seem to congregate in the middle of the road ) after sun-down and the highway itself was under major construction. Sections ranged from 4 lane highway to single lane gravel roads, to some interesting lane changes into oncoming traffic for sections at time. Again daylight will make this a million times easier.

We stayed in Casita 1 which has an amazing oceanview and is very comfortable. There's a nice sized bedroom with tons of storage, a king-sized bed....open concept kitchen and living area with a killer view of the ocean. You go to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing in front of the hotel. We brought our 8 month old baby with us and it was the perfect location to have him there b/c we would put him to bed in the casita and put the baby monitor so that we could hear when he was awake. For those of you who are parents of young kids, you can understand what a treat it is to be very near your sleeping baby while reading a book in the hot Mexican sun.
Andy the manager is amazingly nice and a great host. He would point us to the good places to eat, where to shop for groceries and what to do in the area. The waves are quite big in front of the hotel so it's not ideal for young kids to swim but just fine for adults. That being said just 200 feet down the beach, there's a quieter spot where it's safe to swim. The surfing on the beach at San Pedrito Point is quite good -just ask Andy.
Overall, the place is so relaxing...and amazingly located. Very quiet and serene. There's a pool table, a communal BBQ and a nice hammock for lounging. One thing to do is that the kitchen is full of oils, vinegars and some spices...which is a nice touch (all left by people who were there before us). There's an authentic Mexican spa at Maria's house just down the road -I highly recommend this. It was worth every penny!
We loved it and would go back for sure (hopefully next year).

We spent 2 nights at San Pedrito Surf Hotel on our road trip between Cabo and La Paz and wished that we could have stayed a lot longer.

The setting is beautiful and very relaxing; we did a lot of beach-walking, wave/sunset watching, and reading. If we were better surfers, this place would be absolute paradise.

Also, Andy was a great host and added to the overall comfortable feel of the hotel.

Just got back from our annual family trip, this time to the Baja. The San Pedrito Surf Hotel was great for us, right on the beach and no TV. The kids swam every day, twice a day and entertained themselves, including us, at night. The whale watching and sunsets were spectacular. The kitchen was well setup and there is a BBQ, so we were able to have family meals together. Andy the manager arranged surf lessons, a star gazing outing, and a trip to Cabo Dolphins for us, which was greatly appreciated. We would certainly reccomend this hotel for those looking for a nice relaxing vacation. The website is a very good depiction of the experience that you will have there www.sanperditosurf.com

My family and I have been staying here for more than 10 years and find it hard to think of going anywhere else. The location is perfect, the rooms are great, the beds are amazing, and the people we have met while staying here have made our trips everytime. The sunsets and whale activity can't even be summed up into words, you need to see it yourself.
We are not even surfers and we love this spot.

As a pro surf photographer, staying at the SPSH was as close to perfect as I could get! A 5 minute walk along the wide beach each morning to the point break was a great way to begin each day. In November the surf was consistently head high to overhead each morning, with offshore winds till about 10am every day we were there. Crowds were not bad in the water, but weekends brought a lot more locals out. Campers from all over the world create an international squatters village in the arroyo at the point during the winter months.
The hotel itself offers all the amenities we wanted. (This is not a luxurious resort - don't come here if you want a sprawling pool with room service and a trendy bar scene.) But, if you want to RELAX in a hammock, walk along a deserted beach, watch the most incredible sunsets and sunrises you will ever see, maybe even see the occasional whale breaching (even though November was not really the whale season, we saw quite a few - they say it is incredible when you visit during whale season) and SURF, SURF, SURF every morning - THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. Having a kitchen in each unit is great for such a remote location. If you want to gather up an extended family or a group of surf buddies or even a surf industry/team retreat, this would be perfect. They have an outdoor kitchen with bar-b-que that is available to all guests. We even went into the big game room and played a board game one night - there are games, books a pool table and game tables also available.
We loved the resident dogs and loved when they would come up and snuggle while we read or lay in the hammocks. They were also happy to follow us down to the point each morning. I'm sure if you are not a dog lover, they would not bother you at all, but for dog lovers, it is a definite plus.
Our Casita #5 and adjoining bathroom were immaculate. We had two teen girls who I feared would be bored, but they actually loved the serenity of the grounds and they did a lot of reading out on the front patio overlooking the ocean. Swimming right in front can be treacherous with the pounding shoredump, so I recommend driving 10 minutes around the headland to the next beach, Cerritos, if you want to swim, body surf, body board and also surf. Cerritos is one of the best surfing beaches in that area as well, and the waves tend to stay better through the day there.
Don't even think of coming here without renting a car. It is a long way off the main road and you want the flexibility to be able to go to different beaches and go into town to eat and/or shop.
Another important tip - be sure to stop in either San Jose or Cabo San Lucas on your way to San Pedrito to:
fill up with gas
get money from an ATM (you can use US $ anywhere, but get a better exchange rate if you use pesos)
buy groceries in one of the large supermarkets. You will pass quite a few, but the last ones are just as you start to head out of Cabo. There is even a Costco and a Walmart as you approach Cabo, so bring your membership card if you are a Costco member.

CONS -
We were eaten alive by tiny biting bugs on the sand. Be sure to bring plenty of insect repellant and USE IT religiously. The bites were very itchy and lasted for days, so be forewarned.
The hotel could use some better signage to direct you in, especially if you arrive at night and it is your first visit. Try to arrive before dark if you've never been here before!

Wanted to let everyone know about our stay at the "San Pedrito Surf Hotel", outside of Todos Santos, Mexico.

Andy, the manager makes you feel right at home when you arrive, you will find your name printed on a peice of paper attached to the door of your room and Andy makes a piont of greeting each guest upon arrival and telling you a little bit about the area.

Usally, when we travel I do not want to cook because we are on vacation, but finding a fully stocked kitchen and easy access to town, I enjoyed cooking dinner and breakfast and we drove into town for lunch.

The view from the hotel grounds was just wonderful, looking out to the west and the setting sun.

We found our room to be well kept and clean, the ground 's were well taken care of and playroom was fun to explore because of all the magazines in different languages.

We will be going back again.
