“Super Convenient for Consulate Visit”
Reviewed 24 April 2013

Overall, City Junior is GREAT. The prices are very reasonable, and while there are not a lot of 'extras', if you just need a clean, comfortable room, this is it! My daughter and I were 'stuck' there for a MONTH, so we got a pretty good feel for the place. Yes, the rooms are small, but hey... what do you need? The rooms are clean and the hotel felt very safe. It's directly across the street from the Consulate & Medical Clinics - you can cross the (sometimes busy) street, or there's an elevated walkway/bridge; 40 stairs up, 40 stairs down, which takes you up & over the street.

I read some 'complaints' about AC and Heating. We were there from 3/16-4/16, and weather was fairly good; not too cold or hot. We did use the AC and it worked fine, albeit a little noisy. It wasn't loud enough to be a bother (just had to turn the tv up a little) We did NOT use the heater, but if the one in your room is broken, I'm sure they'll take care of you - again, they were quite accommodating during our stay.

TV in the room IS a little small, but I think part of the problem is we've all become accustomed to 'larger' tvs in our homes. The one in our room was a 22", which I'm sure is 'standard' for the hotel. For English speaking guests, there ARE several stations in English, including the major networks.

There's a nice mall across the parking lot, where you can find many shops and restaurants, including McDonald's and Wendy's, but I recommend the tacos and sushi places; there are LOTs of choices - both in the food court and more traditional restaurants in the mall. There are also a couple if restaurants which share the parking lot w/City Junior, so food is NOT a problem. The mall also has a VERY nice theater, with many movies in English (w/Spanish subtitles) We were there a month, mostly just waiting, so we saw several movies!

Some have complained about breakfast, but it's ok for 'continental' breakfast. During our stay, there was always 2 kinds of cereal, milk, juice, fruit (typically bananas) and a nice selection of 'pan dulce' (Mexican sweet bread) Also, free coffee is available 24/7 from a coffee machine. On some days (not sure if there's a schedule, I suspect it's based on how many guests are in the hotel) they also served some 'snacks' about 5:30 or 6pm. This included assorted chips, some peanuts, salsa and soft drinks - all complimentary. If you want something more substantial, there are well stocked vending machines w/snacks, drinks, 'Cup-Noodles' (hot water is always available), and more. These machines are always available.

Shuttle Van - yes, there IS one, but it only runs once or twice a day (the schedule seems to vary) But you can ask at the desk, and they WILL take you to DHL and the border, but it's on their schedule. In our case, we did use the shuttle van a couple of times, but it was usually faster and more convenient to take a taxi (200 pesos, about US$16-17, round-trip to DHL; when I took the van, I felt it was only fair to tip the driver)

Hotel Staff - were all VERY nice and helpful. I speak a little Spanish, but there was always someone at the desk who spoke English and they were ALWAYS very willing to help. Service staff who clean the rooms spoke very little English, but we gone along just fine with my limited Spanish.

Overall, we had NO problems during our month long stay, and recommend City Junior for your Consulate business. It's a clean, inexpensive place to stay, and they provide a safe, convenient, room for you to sleep in.

Room Tip: I'd stay off the 1st floor, especially the south ('front') side which is right ON the pa...

Hotel will go out of business or something!! All room heaters don't work!!! I spent a freezing night and staff didn't do a thing!!! Short staffed!!!! Blankets are as thin as sheets... Noisy doors and ventilation noise are too loud! Not worth the price, I'd rather stay at other one close by, there are plenty.

Room Tip: Don't stay here! breakfast no good and poor quality building!

This place has a small lobby room and small bedroom. They only have 2 lobby computers and only one worked when i was there, but don't count on using it because it seems like someone is always on the computer. If your going for medical exam and to the consulate and not for comfort it's worth it because it's litterally right across the street from both. all you have to do is cross a bridge that is full of people "trying to help you" on the other sided ,but theire just a bunch of scam artist trying to take your money so don't listen or take what ever kind of help they offer you. The other plus thing I liked was that you can walk to a mall that has a buch of restaurants like "apple bees, subway,Mcdonalds, wendy's,and a few other okay places" the other thing I liked was that there's a starbucks less then 2 min. away walking, and that there's a denny's less then 5 min. away from there 2. In my oppinion you sacrafice a bit of comfort for convinience. The other plus was that they have a small van that takes you to the bus station and to dhl office at certain hours of the day. Don't trust this hotel with leaving very persononal or important documents out in the open since their staff appears rather young and not very well trained or profesional. good luck..

Room Tip: Get a room in the upper floors since there's alway's people in the lobby. I personaly chose...

If you are going for consulate reasons then jts great because the clinic you have to go to for your physical is right across the street and ao is the consulate office for your appointment as well as the place for your fingerprints. Theu give tou breakfast each morning, cereal or bread not much but its worth it so u wont wste too much money somewhere else. I liked it when i wemt you just have to be carefull still when you exit the hotel because alot of people stay there for consulate reasons and many people in juarrz know that and if they know tou have money they might do something but i went for a whole week and nothing happened.

I'm not going to lie the thought of going to ciudad juarez was overwhelming, but we decided to book this hotel and it was the best decision we had done its in walking distance of the American Consulate right across from it actually, also they have security hrs a day free parking if needed and also have two restaurants in the same parking lot El Tragoncito which we ate there twice is great clean and most of all cheap, the hotel also has free internet access so u can bring your own laptop, they offer milk, orange juice, cereal coffee and sweet bread for breakfast the keep the rooms neatly clean and daily Denny is also across the street along with mc donalds and a huge Mall

Room Tip: third floor has a great view at night!

This hotel has a reasonable price for consulate matter. We were there from Dec 7 to Dec 9. It was my wife, my son and myself and we paid 60.00 us dollars for the three of us. It is located right across the street from the new us consulate and from the only two approved medical clinics. Simply walk out of the hotel cross the pedestrian over pass and you are there. In between the Consulate and the clinics you have the Plaza Nicole which is a small plaza that has food, copies, fax, currency exchange, farmacy and photo services. The only down side is that the hotel only offers rooms with two twin beds or one king size. We had to go with the two twin beds and had a rough time sleeping. Although the hotel offers free continental breakfast from 6 am to 10 am and free internet , we had to move to another hotel once our consulate interview was over. I hope this review helps and I wish everyone one the best of luck. If you have any further questions you can email me at sfbud21@hotmail.com, since I was there in with my daughter in October of 2009 and with my son in December of 2010.
