600cdn for a game of golf there don't go. there is so many better places in the world to golf for cheaper. the owners are way out of touch with reality and are not our amigos. golf doesn't have to be an elitist game for the rich.

I have been to Huatulco 3 previous times (08, 10, 12) and a prime attraction is/was the golf. We were going to come again this year but without the golf, we chose to go elsewhere and will not return if this continues to be the case. I'm sure we are just 2 of many who will refuse to bow to such arrogance and stupidity. A real shame.

My group will be leaving their clubs at home this year if this is the case! What a shame! In years prior we'd play between 5 and 7 rounds in a two week span. At this price we won't play at all now. Make it affordable and people will play, drink and eat. Very disappointed!!!!

This beautiful golf course re-opened a little over a week ago after having been closed for several months while undergoing a major re-development. It is now a more difficult championship course with millions of dollars having been spent on renovation. UNFORTUNATELY, the cost for a round of golf has been raised to a ridiculously high level.

It now costs 6,000 Mexican pesos per round per person. The price includes the following items, whether or not you wish to avail of them: loaner clubs, a cart, tees, 50 practice balls, unlimited bottled water, 6 beers or soft drinks and a shot of rum or tequila. Golfers are also required to hire at least one caddy per group (500 pesos plus a tip).

There are two versions as to why they have raised the price to this ridiculously high level of approx. CAD 500 per person. One is that as the course renovation is not complete and work on the site is ongoing, the management company did not wish to re-open the course at this time. Fonatur, the government agency responsible for the development of Huatulco, insisted that it be re-opened by Christmas. In an effort to minimise disruption to the ongoing renovation, prices have temporarily been raised to this absurd level. Reasonable prices and memberships will be re-introduced when the course is really ready, perhaps by the end of January 2014. The second version, more commonly bandied about, is that Mr. Salinas, the second richest man in Mexico, whose company acquired a 10 year lease from Fonatur on this money-losing golf course, wishes to keep it for himself and his guests. As the lease arrangements require that it be open to the public, the prices have been increased to this absurdly high level. We need to wait until the end of January to find out which story is correct. Hopefully, it will be the former and not the latter, nor a combination of both, with prices being reduced to a still too high level.
