My husband and I went to Dreams to stay for our honeymoon and had the worst experience. We have traveled to Mexico numerous times and this was by far the worst trip that I have ever been on. Upon our arrival we noticed that we were the only Americans in the entire hotel and that it was completely full. This wasn't such a bad thing, until we realized that the other guests HATED us and wanted nothing to do with us. They cut us in line, stole our furniture by the pool, allowed their kids to run around and to jump in the adult pool, the food was horrible and the service was even worse. It was like we were invisible to everyone. It was also impossible to get any alcohol before 11 am. We like to drink Mimosa's in the morning but were told on numerous occasions that they didn't serve any alcohol until 11. The staffs also acted like they didn’t understand us and were never open to helping us or assisting us. I would never recommend this hotel and will never stay at Dreams again.

The Dreams Huatulco is a good beach resort hotel, but attention to detail and food quality should improve to make it excellent.

The hotel is very large, with enough pools, corners and bars for every traveller to find a favourite spot (e.g. quiet, with lots of actions, close to kids' areas). Rooms are really very nice, with great design, good beds and sufficiently large.

Staff should improve their attention to detail to make it an excellent hotel - e.g. getting our luggage from the reception to our room took more than an hour and 3 phone calls. Also, if not all restaurants/bars are open during a period, the hotel should really make that more clear to guests (instead of still announcing them in the welcome pack).

Additionally, food quality could also be improved: the à la carte options are quite ok, but the buffets quality seems to deteriorate quite a bit after the first guests have eaten (e.g. messy buffet, not all food available throughout the evening).

I would recommend the hotel for a few days' stay at a low price, but I would probably look for something else if I were to stay for longer.

We were 8 adults and 6 children (ages 2 to 9) and had our BEST family holiday ever at Dreams Huatulco. We've been to Mayan Riviera 5 times and this beat all the other hotels (Iberostar, Barchelo, etc). Food was great, and no reservations needed for the restaurants so no lining up at 7 am to reserve. No hassle to keep track of beach towel cards. No loud music playing all day long. Long beach to walk on, very close to pools. No large distances to walk from room to eating to pool to beach. Altogether a peaceful place where everything is done to keep things low keyed while preserving high quality. Not the regular high-rise, cement, huge, brassy, no charm hotels of Cancun and Mayan Riviera. We'd go back on a dime (if the economy would only improve!) But don't go if you're looking for the wild side; this one is calm, beautiful, not in your face but very service friendly.

We book our trip through Continental, a mistake. We contacted the resort by e-mail, the head concierge Gilda. We requested second floor an if possible two room agoining, with a third room just on the same floor. Gilda responded back saying that she would take care of us as it was a slow time for the resort. My guess was the flu scare that it was slow. Well when we arrived we were given rooms on the first floor. When I started to complain the desk clerk stated there was nothing they could do. That's when Ana from Apple got involved. After telling her of our dissapointment she went to bat for us. She was able to convince the resort to give us rooms on the third floor with a beautiful view. So if you need something contact Ana who is the Apple representitive. The place is absolutly beautiful, rooms and grounds were very clean. The workers were great, to mention a few Brenda, Carolina, Nelson. Then there was Prima our watress on the beach she worked her back side off to please everyone. We have visited other dreams resorts where you could get a coffee with kulau, no coffee at the lobby bar. Jesus the bar tender, offered to go to the resturant and get coffee when we wanted our drink. The food was great at least the resturants that were open. The advertisement on the resorts states six resturants, dress code applies, and one for adults only. Well at no time during our stay was there more than two open at a time. When we went to the lunch area on the beach for a sandwich and a drink; we were told we had to sit in the seafood area, as there was no room in the lunch area, and had to order from their muneu. Both the lunch and seafood area were joined together in an open air beach hut. There were supposed to be six bars including pool and beach bar. During our stay they only had the beach and pool bar opened once. The waiters took orders on the beach and had to get the drinks from the lobby bar. Some time you didn't get your drinks; If you did they were watered down by the time you got them. The resturants are supposed to open at 7AM for breasfest. They opened the door at 7AM but didn' or would'nt serve you till at least 7:30. We get up early and eat and go to the beach area during our visits. This resort we had to stand and wait for some one to tell the cook to go to work. Other dreams and other resorts we stayed at the cooks were waiting for us and the doors and cooks were ready at 7 when scheduled. Very Dissapointing on the management side.

The hotel was recently renovated but obviously not that well. Parts of the ceiling in the lobby and at the main restaurant were falling down to the floor after heavy rains.
Only a few bars were opened since the limited amount of people in the hotel. The rooms and the view from the rooms are wonderful (partial or full ocean view rooms). The minibar was refilled only once a day and sometimes it was not done, had to call the service. The room was kept well, cleaning every day, even twice a day. However, the corridors were not cleaned properly, our glasses and plates from the room service were in front of our room for 3 days once!!!
The staff at the pool bar (ladies-pool attendants) were very friendly and helpful (especially after a small tip). We liked Laura best.
Staying in the hotel for almost 3 weeks, we got a bit bored with the activities provided by the entertainers. We got bored by the food as well. Coming from Europe, we were a bit disappointed with the selection. Though all the food looked good, the taste wasn't great. We stayed in Mexico City for 2 days before this hotel and we got much better food for little money. My partner and I got sick after a week, we had to call the doc because of vomitting and diarrhea and it cost my partner over 100 euro to get well. I went to the nearest pharmacy to get antibiots which helped a bit, but we both had to be very careful what to eat for the rest of our stay. (Avoid SEAFOOD!!!) Sometimes it was a battle to get some good food because it was taken right away.
Talking to other guests, they suffered through some stomach diseases as well.

During our first week, we experienced something disturbing. For 2 days and nights a party for 'the owner' was kept, playing music in the pool area until 3 am. The guests of the hotel were limited by space. The other day they took over one of the pools with the ocean view and restricted the area for the guests. We wouldn't mind it so much had we been informed in advance about the whole party.

Back to the food service, since only restricted amount of the restaurants was opened, the guests had to follow the program each day which was not always even brought to the room by the maid.
The food ordered from the room service was OK.
Generally talking, when serving steaks at 5 star hotels, the meat should be carefully selected but except Portofino, it was just chewing gum and worse.
Breakfast was fine, with wide selection though we missed fresh cucumbers and green peppers. On the weekends, when more guests arrived, it was almost impossible to get freshly made eggs/omelettes because of the long line for it.

Spa premises looked beautiful but the teratments were a bit pricy. We didn't take any.

We took couple of trips from the travel agency at the lobby (from gorgeous Ana) and we were quite satisfied though afterwards we found the same trips for much less from Crucecitta (but we don't know the quality provided there).

Generally, the staff were mostly nice and helpful (Veronica- the restaurant manager especially) but we also faced an arrogant, young guy working at the bars.

We wish we could say that we would recommend the hotel to our friends, but being honest we can't. Being sick for many days during the stay (because of the food) made the trip a bit miserable and we were looking forward to going back home after all.
Recommended length of stay would be maximum 1 week, NOT MORE!
