Love Las Brisas Huatulco! My husband and I never go any where twice but Las Brisas is the exception. Beautiful ocean views, great people and the gym is awesome. Not to mention the food is the best all inclusive we've experienced.
Thanks and we will most likely be back a third time.

Went in February with 2 small kids (ages nearly-two and 4):

The bad first:
- sewer gas smell in our room, faint at first and then became overpowering the last two days (had a suite in the 'clouds' section)
- buffet lunch and dinner was at best 'fine'. Lots of variety and always something for everyone to eat, some good mexican food, but mostly everything tasted like mediocre cafeteria food after a few days. Did not try any a-la-carte because they were mysteriously always booked up.
- we all got sooooo sick. had to call the doctor at midnight to come stop my kid's vomiting. Most likely some kind of virus we think, rather than the food, but not sure. We will be purelle fanatics next time
- walking was for the most part enjoyable (could go everywhere with a stroller), but the hot afternoon hikes back up the hill became a bit much and we started to take the little carts, which were fun.

The good
=======
- oh, it is gorgeous. The ocean was so warm and calm and filled with fish (at the snorkelling beach), we could all splash and swim all day long
- the grounds are beautiful. We spent lovely cool evenings and mornings wandering through shady paths past beautiful plants and trees and flowers - it was fun for all of us to explore and see all the birds and iguanas. Even on the last day we found a few trails we hadn't been pn.
- the 'secret beach' has fantastic snorkelling if you are a strong-sh swimmer and like solitude. I saw turtles every day, and almost never any other people
- our room had a fantastic view (they all do, I think), and was so quiet we heard nothing but waves and crickets and night, or waves and birds during the day (with the odd cart going by).

The bottom line: we would likely go back, though w)e might be tempted to find another place with no sewer gas smell, and we're going to me a lot more careful with hand washing during clod & flu season.

The not-so-great:
OLDER RESORT: Spent a week here during spring break (March 2014). Our room initially smelled like sewer--checked out another and it was similar so stayed put. Thankfully, later that day it cleared up and never came back (weird). The rooms are enormous, have a beautiful ocean view, are "updated" and somehow still "old" (as is the resort), but the bed is VERY comfortable (I am really picky!) and the updated bathroom (& rainshower especially) are great. The first day our room was not that clean, but it was thereafter--it was just hit and miss with the number of towels needed.

The fabulous:
PERFECT LOCATION: The resort has beautiful gardens and is spread out but in the best location of the entire bay with 3 beautiful beaches (plus one rocky hidden one--only for snorkeling), and situated so it's more protected and not subject to strong undercurrents (although a little bit more waves at the activities beach)--just watch the flags for water conditions for the day. One smaller beach is located near the Mexican restaurant, has numerous umbrellas and lounge chairs and amazing snorkeling (snorkeling gear is provided free for an hour). We heard the snorkeling here was better than any excursion others saw--so we stayed here and saw schools of a hundred 2' colorful fish and spinner dolphins. Best was in the morning. The middle beach is bigger with numerous palapas and lounge chairs and more conducive to hanging out in the water if you want to go a bit deeper without stepping on coral. Far beach has all the activities: paddleboarding, kayaking, wind surfing, and sailing--heard they will take you out for $20 and teach you how to sail if you'd like, otherwise all activities are free.
NEVER HAD TO FIGHT FOR LOUNGE CHAIRS: or get up early to save chairs no matter which beach--or pool--you went to!! For spring break, this was A TREAT!!! So great to sleep in on your holiday and still find a place at the pool or beach to sit!
FRIENDLY STAFF: Staff was very helpful with explaining how to use the equipment--Jaime will take good care of you! All the 3 beaches have efficient staff who will bring your drinks to you...although some days they were ALWAYS around and others just every so often. The staff is amazing and work very hard.
AMAZING A LA CARTES: We LOVED the Moroccan restaurant and ate there twice--great atmosphere (although if you have mobility issues it may be more difficult to eat as you sit on stools or on lower pillowed benches). Great salad bar prior to meal: loved the Couscous and the hummus! Kebobs are great, but the Lemon Chicken with almonds in a cream sauce is AMAZING!!! Enjoy a Moroccan apple pie for dessert with a sprinkle of honey! Had it twice! Don't rush through your meal as you will be treated to a (tasteful) belly dance. Loved this restaurant--was a highlight for sure!! The Mediterranean restaurant was also really good--try the Lemon Caper Chicken...absolutely incredible! The Mexican restaurant was just ok (my friend had the lamb and loved it).
BREAKFAST WITH A VIEW: Eat at the Mexican restaurant for an American-only breakfast of eggs to your liking, sausage, bacon, pancakes, best yogurt ever, fresh fruit, oatmeal and cereals plus numerous buns and breads for breakfast. The view over the snorkeling beach is perfect. We didn't go to the buffet for breakfast after the first day as this location was just too perfect to pass up.
CLEAN CUSHIONS IN LOBBY: Seems like a weird 'plus' but when using the internet in the lobby in the evenings, we saw them CHANGE the cushions of the huge couches at least every other day (sometimes daily). I loved that they were cleaned and changed so often!!
CHEAP TAXIS TO TOWN: It only costs $38 pesos to take a taxi into town (less than $4)--ask the price before getting into the taxi and when in town, ask again before getting in or they will charge you more. It's only a 5-10 minute drive into La Crucicita--ask to be dropped off at the square. Check out the painted church across from the square. Try La Crema pizza (sit close to the pizza ovens) although you may have to wait to get a seat.

What to expect:
LOTS OF STAIRS--or waiting (but never for long) for a ride in their carts. We picked this resort because of the stairs (to counteract all the eating!) so we loved it and never took a ride the entire week! Every building is perched on a hill. Not for those with mobility issues.
PEACE & QUIET--you can pick a beach that is super quiet or just quiet or go to the pool where the music is at a perfect level & not overpowering your thoughts.
AVERAGE FOOD AT BUFFET: Typical: Pastas, steaks, hot dogs, sandwiches made to your liking, salad bar, dessert. Some great hot dishes. Always amazing bread (I'm not a bread person, but got hooked!). Not always super efficient with bringing cappuccinos or drinks at lunch, but staff are very pleasant. Restaurants/buffet don't open til 1 for lunch and 7 for dinner, so those with kids may find this more difficult, although there is a snack bar (with great ice cream available only after lunch--for an hour or two) close to the pool and if you have reservations at the Mexican restaurant, it is the only one that opens at 6:30.
DECENT ENTERTAINMENT: For the most part, the entertainment was very good, and usually in good taste and suitable for families. The resort tends to be quieter in the evenings, but has great live music and dancing by the main bar. Can't comment on the kids club, but the outdoor movies happen to start at 6:30--disappointing for families who will likely be waiting to go to eat when the restaurants open at 7. The resort would do well to perhaps have them during the day or even at 7:30 so that the kids (and adults alike) could participate.
EXTENSIVE USE OF SUNSCREEN: Expect to lather up with sunscreen every hour! My friend has darker skin and NEVER burns, and even she burned here--the sun is very intense. EVERYONE had sunburn, even myself--and I applied every hour!
EXPENSIVE SUNSCREEN: Make sure you bring EXTRA sunscreen, as at the hotel, expect to pay $220-$320 pesos (yes--$22-32 US!!). In town, expect to purchase it for only a little less--I paid $190 ($19) for the same lotion I buy in Canada for $8. BRING EXTRA or expect to be gouged!
LIMITED WIFI: We could only get connected when at the main lobby--which is open-air and usually quite warm.
NO DEALS ON SILVER OR SOUVENIRS: Prices are quite inflated on jewelry and other items in town. Don't expect a deal.
TO SEE LOTS OF CANADIANS: So many great people here!!
A GREAT, RELAXING HOLIDAY! One of the most relaxing ones I had.
THIS PLACE GROWS ON YOU! You will overlook the old resort feel because of location, location, location! This beach area is the best! I would definitely come here again!!

Room Tip: Heard the Mars has the newer rooms.

We stayed at Las Brisas at the end of February and this was our second visit. We can honestly say it was better then the first. In saying that, our first visit was Excellente and that was the reason why we decided to choose this gem a second time. We love this little gem and we are looking forward to our return with our two boys in December! What's there not to like: location fantastic, weather more then perfect, food great especially the Oaxaca cheese, room was in the beach club suites and we will book them again. We would like to let the manager know that there were a few stand out staff that deserve commendation. Roberto Sr and Roberto Jr were outstanding. These two gentleman work very hard and enjoy there job. It really shows in the service they provide. Thank you Pablo for making our spanish coffees, they were the best I have ever had. We would also like to thank the bartender Julian and the beach servers Eunid(not sure of spelling). The way they treated us was like we were there family. We are looking forward to our third visit and can't wait too see you all in December. Cheers!

To begin I have to say that we were blown away by the service from Air Transat. It was much more than we expected for the price we paid. The reservation process was efficient. The check in at YVR went without a hitch. The on board experience was a surprise...we thought we would be asked to pay for everything and that was not the case. The Duty Free procedure was easy. The planes' seating is tight to be sure but we have no complaints for the value offered. The Destination Supervisor, Sophie Theberge, went above and beyond for us and for that we will be eternally grateful.

Now for the Resort...we cannot say enough about this place. It is our first experience with an AI and it ticked off all the boxes. We understand that this property was originally a Club Med and built in the late 60's or early 70's. Apparently being the first or one of the first resorts built in beautiful Hualtalco. From what we could see this ensured the best geographical location with beaches that were safe to swim in and even a reef for snorkeling.

Las Brisas is located on a large piece of property and we walked everywhere but the shuttles provided would preclude a lot of that for folks who weren't into it.

Our bay view room was dated, clean and we loved it. The bathroom had been renovated recently. We were very happy with the housekeeping and the mini bar service that ensured that we always had Coronas, soda and water in our fridge.

The beaches were brilliant and we utilized the palapas (sp) provided on a daily basis...shade was easy to find here...which was important as the thermometer reached 32 - 36 degree centigrade during our stay. The water was refreshing, clean and easy to access.

The food was good at times, OK at others and brilliant once or twice. We have no complaints about that...once again, for what we paid for the trip; it was more than we dared hope for.

This resort is also a destination for people from all over Mexico and we met some great people from Mexico City. Many traveling with families and it was a pleasure to see how loving the families were with each other...older siblings looking out for younger ones...Grandparents being assisted into the water by Grandchildren...so respectful of each other. We made friends on this journey that will last a lifetime which was something we had not even considered when we set out.

The staff is fantastic as has been mentioned here time and again. We ensured that we tipped them on a regular basis as they worked very hard to ensure everyone enjoyed their experience.

A great trip by any standards!

We have just returned from a family holiday at Las Brisas......the staff was terrific....entertainment and recreation wonderful. We love the resort - beautiful grounds, great food....yes, there are lots of stairs but three beautiful beaches, lots of plants and flowers, lots of 'room' even when busy on stat holidays for Canadians or Mexicans....so the steps were just a bit of extra exercise! We loved it and hope to return! Twelve Canucks!

Room Tip: We had third floor rooms - with terrific views!

Spent a great week in Huatulco.Flight was good with Air Transat 5.5hrs down and about 6.5 back to Edmonton.Bus ride from airport was about 20 minutes, air conditioned bus.No beer to buy on the bus,so grab some before you get on board. We were greeted at the hotel with a cold drink and quick check in.Got a trolley ride to the room (3135) in the clouds, great ocean view from the spacious room, which had a coffee maker with the best hotel room coffee we have ever had,a fridge stocked with 3 coronas,3 pops,2 small waters, along with a large bottle of water on the counter. There are two closets with adequate hanging space and 3 shelves, along with a 3 drawer dresser.A small table with two chairs,in front of a large Window facing the ocean that opened,no patio.Bathroom was nice with a couple of counters with mirrors, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, face soap and a small sewing kit.Nice shower stall with a gentle overhead shower head,as well as a hand held wand(good shower for a sunburned body). There is an ice machine for each complex but is not always working,a call to the from desk will get ice delivered quickly to your room. You can walk to the beach from your room in about 5 min or call for a trolley.
Beach
There are 3 beaches to chose from-snorkel beach farthest from the lobby but beautiful sand,a reef and pretty good snorkeling ,drink service at all the beaches. The main beach is more a swimming beach with grass huts and a green area behind the beach. The third beach is a sport beach where you can use paddle boards, kayaks,Hobbie crafts and sail boards. Did not have to save a spot all week, plenty of room.
Pools
3 pools one adult only which was monitored-no kids allowed. We did not use the pools much, they were way to warm and the ocean was too beautiful.
Buffet was good,we enjoyed breakfast at the Mexican restaurant every morning,it is outside and right beside the beach.
Alcarts were ok,food was average, service average to poor.
Pretty quiet at night, just the way we like it . The usual shows pretty good.

Wifi was good upstairs by the front desk, but it was really hot there, even at night.
We met lots of nice people, mostly Mexicans and Canadians, strangely no Americans or Europeans.

It was beautiful every day no rain hardly any clouds, hottest place we have ever been, sometimes overwhelming and we love the heat
50 peso with tip cab ride to town, nice place worth the trip
Overall we liked it and may go back one day in Jan or Feb when it might be a little cooler.
