Las Hadas By Brisas
Ranked #3 of 52 Hotels in Manzanillo
Reviewed 31 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at Las Hadas for a week the beginning of December. This was our second visit. The consistantly perfect weather as well as the charm of the resort brought us back.. True it is showing it's age but the Moorish architecture is just lovely, with white buildings, cobblestone streets and lovely gardens. The beach was clean and the water great for swimming. We booked the Brisas Club upgrade which got us a room close to the beach with a huge terrace. Having the private pool for Brisas Club guests is also a nice option. Our only complaint is with the food. Breakfasts were good (buffet style) with lots of choices. We liked the beach restaurant for lunch, although service was very up and down (depending if they had a group in, who seemed to be first priority). The Los Delfines seafood restaurant which is open everyday for luch and dinner unfortunately never varies it's menu. A buffet once in a while would have been nice. We ate at El Terral (the Mexican restaurant) twice and found the food o.k. but the ambiance lovely. There are a few restuarants next door at the Marina and we highly recommend PocoPazzo Ristorante for wonderful pizza and good red wines by the bottle , served in proper glasses! There wasn't any entertainment at night as the hotel wasn't at full occupancy, but that can change depending on how many guests are registered. Not something we missed. Overall we enjoyed our vacation and would return again.

Service was mostly great. Food was good. I liked all restaurants, sometimes slow at legatzbi, but lovely restaurant with a piano player.
This is not the place to go if you want lots of action at a resort. This was my first resort without nightly entertainment. It didn't seem to matter because we enjoyed the weather the food and walking around the cobble stone streets. Going to town a few times fills curiosity. If it's your first time to Manzanillo, I do recommend the city tour in a canopy truck. They take you all around Manzanillo and Santiago, then you know your way around.
It was hard at first to get used to all white rooms, we were in the Brisas Club section which gave us a larger room and terrace. I found the mattress hard and flat pillows, but the hotel was accommodating in what they could do to help. Being in the Club section entitled you to enjoy a separate bar and private pool. Serge the bartender is a constant there and is great to talk to. There are many repeat people that go to Las Hadas, 15 years in a row. The beach is small but nice. The beach guys will bring you a foamy mattress to lay on if you ask.
It is an older place, and an enjoyable place to unwind.

This is the resort that the movie 10 was filmed. The resort is clean and well maintained.
Staff is great, a little slow when they get busy. The food is average, could be improved.
We had a great time and would go back.

Room Tip: Be sure your room has a flat screen TV. Pick a room close to the beach.

Next to the hotel are the condos constructed several years after the hotel. There are around 100 condos of all sizes, shapes and condition. If you plan to stay for a couple weeks or longer you might consider this as an option. I own a place there, but do not rent it out. My understanding is that a two bedroom unit, fully equipped, runs around $175-200 USD/night. The condos have full access to all the hotel amenities, including the golf course, beach and restaurants. The condos also have a large outdoor pool with a restaurant facing the ocean.

The taxis at the hotel will take you to the supermarkets (including wallmart) about 15 minutes from the hotel for about $50 pesos each way. It's very safe. I've been going there for 20+ years, and have owned a place there for five years. I will be there for New Years.

The jet airstrip is about 30 minutes from Las Hadas. If you want more info, I suggest you google the Puerto Las Hadas condos, and see what you get. Hope this helps. danh1939@gmail.com

Las Hadas is a hotel that lives up to its diamond rating for the variety of amenities (i.e. restaurant- check; beautiful pool- check; valet parking-check; attentive doormen and bellmen- check, etc). However, I'd echo what the last reviewer stated and confirm that it is a dated-looking resort. We stayed for 5 nights from November 20th - 25th. The rooms are clean, however look worn-down and aged. The marble floors in the lobby and in the rooms are also clean, but need buffing and some rooms could use a new coat of paint to refresh the white stucco walls.

Following our first night, we wanted to move to a different room - due to a very strong & fowl sewage-type smell emitting from the bathroom floor drain. The front desk was attentive to our request for a new room. Before deciding on which room to move to, we were offered a tour of three different rooms. The bellman that assisted us, nodded politely when we mentioned the odor to him too since a similar smell also permeated in the elevator - the front desk attendant and the the bellman both seemed to be aware of the problem when mentioned - this really isn't acceptable to even check guests into "smelly rooms" at any 4-star. There are several different buildings with varying room types and layouts, so it is possible that the sewage odor was isolated to the one building that we were first assigned. The drain odor disappeared when we moved rooms - into a different building. However, the pillows and the bedsheets in our new room generated the same sewage-smelling odor after two more nights, eventhough they had changed our sheets each day. Another Manzanillo visitor we met said she noticed the odors too and proposed that the sewage-odor could be caused by how the city recycles its water (it's an eco-friendly town) - she also confirmed with us that she asked to change rooms as well after the first night too. I'm not entirely sure what or how Manzanillo recycles its rain water, and I did not check to see if this was true but this could explain the various odors in the rooms! Overall, the fowl odors really hampered the beautiful ocean views and spacious room accommodations.

The staff are friendly and will work to try to provide quality customer service, eventhough for most there was a language barrier with English communication. For those who travel light and rely on the complimentary toilettries that a 4-star typically offers (i.e. shampoo, conditioner, etc), I would highlight that there was no conditioner available - noticed this to be the case in all the different rooms we toured and when I tried to call down to the the front desk/housekeeping they informed they had one bottle left - which they provided for me, and which runs out quick! Not a biggie, but after a few days of sun, sand, salt water and chlorine - not to mention the humidity - for those of us with longer hair it would have been nice to be able to have this 'little luxury' that one would expect at a 4-star resort. The hotel advertises that it has 4 restaurants, but in reality one restaurant is open all day and into the evening (Delfinas) and only one of the other restaurants is open on a rotating basis in the evenings at any one time. So, the 4 restaurants are never open in concert, so your dining options are limited unless you opt to take a taxi and try local restaurants - which I recommend to do (more options, better quality and better value).

Overall, 4-star service, but really this is more of a strong 3-start hotel given the age and maintenance of the amenities. There are white-linen napkins on your table; and there is a reasonable breakfast buffet selection in the morning. However, everything that is served to you looks and feels old - clean, but old. Some towels looked new; while many are tattered and yellowing - albeit I could tell that the towels (room & beach towels) are of high quality, large-sized and are luxurious - it's all just old and tired-looking. The service buffets and tableware is scratched-up and well-used, but again everything is clean...but things look worn down. The stay was a little disappointing, but a hotel with lots of potential. A safe and quiet setting, and perfect place to get away from it all. Beautiful palatial buildings and cobblestone roads throughout the resort.

Room Tip: Don't bother upgrading to a larger room (we did this upon arrival for a small increase in pesos...

Las Hadas is an older resort hotel that has managed to remain in relatively good condition. The room I had was very large with a great balcony and view of the private beach. The grounds are well kept. The whole time I was there the air conditioner emitted a really musty smell that at first was annoying, but I finally came to ignore. Las Hadas is somewhat isolated and a few minutes taxi ride from the center of town. There were small businesses located on the marina within walking distance of the hotel, but all were closed except two. In order to do any shopping you'll have to go into Manzanillo. It is a good hotel if you want to go somewhere and not leave the premises, and it's very family oriented--there were lots of families visiting while I was there. There is a good restaurant located at the hotel and one on the hotel grounds.

Room Tip: If your room smells musty because of the AC, ask for another room...the smell will not improve as th...

I heard about this property for years, so as travel agents we decided to stop by for a visit. Only guests are allowed into the property, but because we are travel agents they let us in. The property is nicely secluded and is the perfect spot if you want to stay more than a few days in Manzanillo. We walked around the swimming pool, restaurant, beach, marina and the lobby. There were many families with children in the swimming pool, so this is not a quiet place for couples. I would stay here if I returned to Manzanillo and wanted a beach resort.

Room Tip: Get an oceanview
