“Relaxing good time, for the most part”
Reviewed 5 July 2008

My wife and I visited Las Hadas last February, our first time ever at an all-inclusive resort. For the most part it was lovely and relaxing. It didn't start well, however, as upon arriving at our room there was a large pane of glass overlooking the patio that was cracked. We asked for another room and were accommodated, but only grudgingly. The next room, however, had an obstructed view of the bay. Disappointed, we asked to be moved again. We found one staff member, who'll remain nameless, who was less than helpful and downright rude. The next morning, we made a point of speaking with a manager and told him about our ill treatment by the staff person. He apologized and, after several minutes of calling around, we were on our way to a new room. Satisfaction at last. There were other minor irritants (extra pillows not immediately sent, sometimes pool-side service was slow), but once we got past the room fiasco, everything else was to our liking. Other staff people were courteous and friendly, the food was consistently exceptional (especially Le Gaspi...a real treat) and we eventually received everything we came for -- rest, relaxation and a bit of pampering. The theme nights were fine, especially the 'Mexican Night', where it was obvious the staff went all out to show their visitors a good time. It was first rate. Wife's comments: Great bathroom, loved the beds on the beach, awesome omelet guy, beautiful ambience and furniture in the martini bar. Indeed, there wasn't a lot to do, but that was exactly the way we wanted it. We'll definitely be back.

It is really neat to drive up the winding cobblestone streets and look at the spectacular views. Las Hadas is all white inside and outside, but there is something about it that keeps us coming back again and again! I really like the pool and the beach and all of the palm trees and the brunch is fabulous! The water at the beach is very calm and it is like a protected little cove. Another fun thing about staying here is because you never know when you will see an iguana run by!

Las Hadas is a beautiful old property but boy is it boring! Stay here only if you want to totally relax and nothing else. The bars are closed most of the time and the town is about a 25 minute trip away by taxi. The taxi only cost about 8 usd so it's reasonable.

On the bright side, the concierge there is very helpful and the activity guy Fernando is super sweet too. The rooms are big and bright and the air conditioner keeps it's nice and cool. The movie 10 is played 24 hours a day on the room TV's so you can watch Dudley Moore and Bo Derrick enjoying the very area you are in. Kind of funny. The pool is nice and big and the poolside waiters keep the drinks and food coming. You will pay twice as much for a beer there as you would elsewhere though. All in all I give Las Hadas a 6. If you want to visit, make it a short 2 or 3 day stay.

I agree with many of the comments posted by others. The resort can use some updating but we still found the place to be 'charming.' We practically had the place to ourselves mid-week (gets crowded on the weekends.) We opted for the Brisas Beach Club and enjoyed both the adult pool and the daily cocktail hour. Our room was clean and adorned with flowers daily. Service was not consistent (I guess it depended on how busy they were.) Some days we had daily maid service as well as turn-down service but not every day.

What was disappointing however was the food. I thought it to be overpriced and frankly of poor quality.

Overall, though, our experience was a good one and we would consider going again.

  • Liked — The village-like layout of the resort and the service.

Although a beautiful setting with wonderful views, the hotel needs updating. The tiles in the outdoor bar area were worn; the lampshades and upholstery in our room were stained; the mattress was hard and uncomfortable. However, the bathroom was good sized and the shower had ample room with a bench.

The view from the wide balcony is beautiful and overlooks the Bay of Santiago. We would recommend upgrading to the Brisas Beach Club plan which allows you access to an adult pool and private bar.

The beach is small and closed in by a rocky peninsula and there are virtually no waves.

Make sure to take a stroll along the water near the restaurant, Los Delfines, There is a black gate you walk through and you will arrive at another hotel, the Barcelo Karpali Palace, in about twenty minutes. The walk is beautiful right after dinner. Try to make it back by 10pm since the gate may be closed.

All in all, the resort is very romantic but needs some upkeeping.

We stayed at the Las Hadas from March 14-21. It's one of the most "special" places we have ever stayed. Yes it is old, but that only adds to the special feel of the location. Just the beautiful grounds, flowers, beautiful white buildings, the amazing personal service, make this resort a 5-star in my eyes. The rooms are basic but very clean and have had a facelift recently with new furniture. Yes the beds are hard, but ask for a foam topper and they are perfect. We stayed in room 1616 and had the most beautiful view of the bay and sunrise every morning I have ever seen. Even saw whales in the bay ---you have to be patient! The restaurants were all great...the Mexican Rest. having the most amazing ambiance...sitting out on the terrace with only the stars and moon above you..AMAZING. Weather was perfect..not a cloud in the sky the whole week. Staff very helpful and language not really an issue. The whole resort has a "step-back-in-time" feel. The theme nights are very well done and a lot of work goes into them. Excursions are very inexpensive compared to most locations we have stayed at. We did a boat tour of the bays/snorkling included for $30.00 for 3-4 hours including drinks. The city buses are very easy to use and drivers very helpful..only .50 cents to get to Manzanillo. The resort is very very quite...no entertainment in the evenings at all...just quite lobby bar...more of a "hotel" feel instead of an all-inclusive feel. Walk out the front entrance of the hotel to your left, and you will have the most amazing view of the sunset every night...feels like you are on top of the world. This is not a 5-star U.S. hotel so don't expect it---it is an amazing Mexican 5-star hotel that makes you feel like you are in MEXICO! We will definitely be going back...WE LOVED IT HERE.

  • Liked — Beautiful grounds and buildings..amazing sunrises and sunsets
  • Disliked — I little quite, but fine.

My wife and I just returned from a fabulous 2-week stay at Las Hadas. I can not say enough about the place, it was truly fantastic. The scenery is incredible!! So picturesque!! The food is amazing - not only is the quality top notch, but the dishes available are mind boggling!!! Five star meals not only for dinner, but lunch as well - and every day!!!!!! Steaks were out of this world (order well done if you like it medium!!), as was the shrimp and fish (Mahi-Mahi medallions were my favorite). The lunch buffet is also excellent - alway a great assortment of foods. You can also order from a menu if you prefer. Same goes for around the pool-you can order food from your lounger, and the waiter will bring it to you!!!!!!The staff everywhere do a fantastic job and ensure your holiday is great. We usually tipped a little here and there, and were happy to because the service is excellent. It is a quiet resort, without much entertainment at night other than the lobby bar, but we knew that already. Yes, the pool looks a little tired, but it is well maintained. We have stayed at many all-inclusives, mostly in the 4-star category, and this holiday is up near the top of the list . Gracias to Edilberto and Ascunsion in the Las Delfines restaurant for such top notch service.A truly fantastic Holiday!

  • Liked — The service, the staff, the food, the atmosphere!!!!!!!!!!
  • Disliked — Pool needs some attention, but is still great!
