“Las Hadas and Puerto Las Hadas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2010

We have visited Manzanillo for many years and always stayed at Las Hadas except for one terrible year at a very noisy all inclusive. Las Hadas is the perfect place to relax. The staff is very friendly and many of them have worked there for years. The food is good and the rooms very comfortable. For the past several years we have been going to Manzanillo for 3 months so moved next door to the impressive condo complex Puerto Las Hadas which has a terrific pool area and now three new restaurants at the Marina. We so far have rented as am still a bit unsure re the Mexican legal system and will be there again this winter. The rents are reasonable and the condos very nice. If you go to Manzanillo do join Manzamigos and enjoy thirsty Thursdays.

The musty odor which greets you as you enter the lobby also lives in the guest rooms. The hotel was at low low occupancy and our room was less than perfect... this made no sense to me. The safe was still locked from the previous guest. The finishes are worn, the bedskirts and drapes (all white) are spotted and stained. The television had no remote - we placed a call to the desk for one and got a call back 30 minutes later that the TV would have to be replaced, that took another 30 minutes and three people who had to come in to make the switch. The fringes of Hurricane Frank sent some ill weather our way, so having a working TV made sense. The staff were friendly and welcoming, except the breakfast service staff who were efficient, but not friendly. The food was okay, but with few options for dining in the Hotel due to being off season, heading elsewhere might be a good idea. The pool is spacious and beautiful, our room had a great view of this and the beach and sea. Las Hadas plays a poor quality recording of the movie "10" repeatedly and the soundtrack to the Hotel is a mix of 70's and 80's classics in Engilsh. These quirky reminders of another heyday suggest that a stay in a more contemporary property might be worth checking into!

Resorts are definitely a matter of taste. Las Hadas is definitely distinctive, a character all its own, very attractive with wonderful architecture. The staff are warm and helpful in all areas of the resort. In addition to other North Americans, a large number of Mexicans frequent this resort, which to us is a good sign. Some people who visit Las Hadas find it somewhat "dated" - they would like a brand spanking new facility. But that is not the character of the place. I had never seen the movie "10" before coming to the resort (a bit out of the loop), but a good chunk of the movie was shot here, and it is suitably picturesque.
We got the "Brisas golf package", which suited us perfectly. It gives you access to a separate adults-only pool (although the other huge kids-included pool looked great too), and daily golf at the Las Hadas golf club, a Pete Dye design. The food was good, although perhaps the dinners were a little uneven at the Legazpi restaurant. The Los Delfines restaurant looks out over the Pacific, and can't be beat for location. Good food, too. Our room was spacious, with its own spacious deck, all white and very attractive. The steward at the poolside bar couldn't have been more attentive and helpful - Serge. His attitude was typical of everyone we met on staff there.
We played golf every day, and there is an easy and quick (5 min) shuttle to the course. We played at about 8:30 every day, and usually had the course to ourselves, which is hard to believe. We have been to Las Hadas 3 times, and have had this experience every time. The course is a great design, challenging, with good greens and fairways, although perhaps a little ragged at a few edges - however in the climate it is a real challenge to keep it as perfectly groomed as you might expect at a top club in the rest of North America.
The one complaint I have about the resort is the quality of the fitness facility. It is adequate, with some cardio machines, but the weights and weight machines are poor. To be fair, they have made some modest improvements in this facility, but they need to do more, which wouldn't cost them much.

All in all, we find Las Hadas to be a great location, full of character, pleasant and attractive. I have spoken with people who definitely would prefer a more modern design resort, with a more monolithic hotel and related facilities. We will definitely go back.

We returned to Las Hadas 20+ years after we first went there, but this time with our 2 teenage kids. We had a wonderful time. The place is a bit older looking, but they have done a great job of maintaining its spectacular nature. Food was good. Tennis courts not perfect but nice, pool very nice, and generally speaking it seemed like a terrific value. We stayed both in the hotel and the in Las Brisas sections, and really liked Las Brisas for the privacy, large suites and quiet pool.

We booked through a wholesaler site for two nights as a vacation within our vacation (a month in Mexico). Upgraded to the Beach Club. Huge room, with a bar area and foyer and a large ocean view deck. It was our own little Moorish castle up there on the second floor of our building. We had an impressive winding staircase that went to just our room (#610) The room came with a large continental breakfast for a 30 peso delivery charge.

The great: Very 30's Hollywood, great beach, great service, the Beach Club pool was quiet, we were the only ones there, outstanding view, helpful staff. The concierge spent a half hour discussing Manzanillo restaurant choices with my wife.

The good: Large quiet room, decent restaurants. The beach massage facility was very nice.

The medium: A little worn around the edges. The room, although recently painted, wasn't done very well. Drips on the marble floors, etc. Nothing terrible, but I know about these things and noticed.

The not so good: Internet was, hold on to your hat, $200 pesos ($16 US) a day. $325 pesos for two days. Everything was extra. Even in room coffee, water, etc.. You had to be careful. On our two page bill there was only one minor mistake, so they do a good job there. We stopped for a port at the lobby bar the night before and got a copy so I could review it before checkout.

They will let you stay until 2 PM without charge. A 25% room charge after that but I did get the impression you could stay until evening for that.

So understand. This is not at all cheap (we ran at close $300/night including upgraded room, food, one 90 minute massage and drinks), service is great, our room was spectacular, the facilities are very nice. It is a little worn.

Spend the extra $30 on the Beach Club, they throw in a free happy hour, breakfast and the rooms are bigger and nicer. Oh, and we stayed an extra night. Liked it that much.

This is a wonderful old hotel, with few guests. The featured dining room is as elegant as any you will find with all inclusive deals. although you will eat and probably drink too much (try mango margueritas) you wii keep fit climbing all the steps. Our room was 70 steps from the, beach.
The golf course is as challenging and interesting as you will find, though some of the traps need work. You will likely need alot of balls, but these can be purchased cheaply on the course about 50 cents each. In swimming in the sea, watch out for jelly fish. there is no nightly entertainment which I consider a plus..
