“great place, nice people, best value for a very clean resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2010

We stayed for a week,We have stayed in lots of other all inclusives, This deffinatly was one of the better ones. The rooms were very clean, if thier was a fault in the room is fixed before you could complain. The food was very good with a good choice every day, you could always find some very well prepared dishes. Every thing from roast duck to chicken nuggets, and sea food was good but nothing to fancy thier, my recomendation if you like sea food as I do, is to book the Japanese restraunt was the place to go, very good and had a good choice of raw and cooked food. The hot shrimp soup was one of my favorites, went real well with raw salmon, ginger and wasabi.. have fun just keep ordering.
Fishing was awsome , I was able to land a 7ft 4inch sail fish. Margo can set you up , try to get Candy the captain and John . They have 8 lines out at a time. I had the whole boat to my son and myself.
Service is very good and you just can't help but to tip, they sure appriciate it. and make it even more enjoyable ,especially if you like your drinks, The resort beach was small but the public beach goes forever. Great for walks and getting away from the crowd if you want. The shows were not Vegas but very nice to watch ,very colorful costumes.

We were traveling with our children 7 and 16 and had a great time. First time in Mexico for the kids but we have stayed at other Barceló resorts.
Check-in was an ease, we were hoping for an ocean view but got one looking out the back which was fine as we spent very little time in the room. There was never an issue with a language barrier as most staff spoke English well
Room was very spacious and clean. Beds are a little hard but OK. Rooms were cleaned every day and staff was friendly.
Pools were good, although colder than the ocean, if it the weather is hot then they are very refreshing. We liked the fact that there was a kid’s pool right next to the bigger pool so both kids could enjoy themselves and we could see them both.
It is true that you have to get your towels early and save a spot if you want a certain one especially on the weekends when the Mexican families come to enjoy themselves. Nice to see families having fun together. Check for Mexican holidays as the Resort will fill up on these days for sure. But, the adult’s only pool had lots of seats available poolside throughout the day.
You can borrow snorkel/masks at the towel/scuba place but you can bring your own or like us buy them at the local supermarket (near Burger king) for $10.00. We also brought the 7 year olds own life jacket which was a great decision.
The beach was small but fun for the kids. If you are looking for a place with long beach walks this is not the place, try Ixtapa or other places (read the reviews!) The beach was fun for snorkelling, lots of little fish. There were kayaks for use, singles and doubles, which were fun for a quick little jaunt. There was also a wave runner for rent 500 pesos for a half hour which the kids loved (and the adults!)
Kids club is great for little ones 7 and under but older kids will not enjoy it. The playroom is ok if it is raining but I wouldn't bother with it.
Food was great. A new theme night every night and lots of selection although when dining at the same place every night you will see some of the same food. We switched it up and had breakfast at the "Capri" up by the pool for some of the mornings. We ate twice at the "Agave"Mexican a la carte restaurant which was awesome. Thanks to Geraldo our waiter. Try the "pozole" if you like super spicy food. WOW.
It is not the greatest that you have to make reservations on the day you want to eat a la carte, but make sure you are there in line before 10am if you want to get a decent reservation time. We didn’t bother with the sushi restaurant as we have excellent sushi in Vancouver regularly. The other restaurant is Italian and as we were in Mexico we wanted Mexican.
The shows were Fun and corny but a bit too late for the little one.
Manzanillo is not particularly a tourist friendly place and if you are looking for souvenirs you might be hard pressed to find anything. The local bus ride was fun, bumpy, and a great way to see some interesting sights.
All in all it was a great holiday and the kids loved it. Remember that you are in Mexico and not Canada or the US and things work a little different. It is sad to see reviews complaining that there were too many Mexicans and the staff speaks Spanish. It really shows very little respect for the country they are visiting.
Oh yeah, Beware the slide if you are above the age of 15. You could really injure yourself on that thing (although it was fun for a few runs)

We had an ocean view room, great and big. 3220. But if you get ocean front on that side of the hotel you will have to deal with teh sage outdoor shows everynight at 9 pm. Rooms were very clean and all worked as expected. The tours were a bust and not worth the money. You are better off to go in a taxi 60 pesos and do it yourself as the charges were not 1/2 price for kids and we paid 80 dollars to go to down town and the information provided was not worth the money lol

We stayed at the Barcelo Jan.25th - Feb. 1/2010, I can say that the Karmina Palace was a wonderful hotel for a family vacation. Although I would recommend you stay away from rooms located at the front of the hotel, facing the driveway. These rooms are subject to noise from emergency vehicles, late night parties at the hotel next door and the sound of the fountain/pumps (should they forget to turn the thing off at night).

The kids club ( The Barcy) is not that exciting for kids over the age of 7 or 8. I would recommend the Barcy club for under 5's only. The shows at the outdoor Theatre are enjoyable, and the Barcelo Band are very good, they should have them come on a little earlier before the 9 p.m. showtime.

The beach here is small but you can go in to cool off and is also good for snorkelling.

The Karmina is a beautiful hotel, and the staff are polite. The restaurants are good, the service from wait staff excellent. I would recommend this hotel and would go back again if the price was right. The Barcelo Karmina Palace is in my opinion a 4.5 star hotel. A good value for your money if you get it at a good price, make sure you shop around.

I had the pleasure of staying the 3rd week of Jan 2010 at the beautiful Karmina Palace.
Only knock I can think of against the place is the small beach. It's no more than 80 yards long and is quite rocky in places. This is good for snorkelling but no so much for swimming. There is a great big golf green sheltering the beach, which makes it ideal for the numerous children at the beach.
Other than that,I only have good things to say.
The grounds are immaculate, the hotel is beautiful in design and beats any of the neighbours.Compares favourably with the more expensive neighbour to the north (Las Hadas)in all but the beach,as previously noted.
Certainly head and shoulders above the resort one beach over called the Tesoro.
Food offerings were great,never repetitive.
They have a la carte at 3 restaurants-Mexican,Japanese and Italian .
Liked each one
Rooms are huge with marble everywhere.
2 TV'S with 2 sofas and a sitting area and a king size bed with balconies ten feet deep with an ocean view that will stop you in your tracks.
Bathrooms are bigger than my bedroom with a huge tub in the center and 2 sinks either side.
You have to crawl underneath the bouganvilla bush to access the beach to the right(they lock the gate most of the time).Once on the beach you can walk for miles and miles.
30 minutes walk gets you to the Walmart or you can take the bus that seems to run every 45 seconds to Manzanillo proper for 6 pesos or 60 cents Cdn.
The nicest beach is Miramar a 40 minute walk to the north where there are nice 6 foot swells if you like to play in the waves,as I do.
Nightly shows are a little on the lame side, but that is with most places.
Nicest part of the entire experience is that the place was one third full and the result was no queing for drinks, towels, omelettes, etc.
You ask the beach bar for tequilla shots and you get name brand hooch(Jose Cuervo in this case) and not some mysterious house brand that leaves you wandering what the hell is in your cup.Beer was Dois Equis and Sol.
It did get a little busier on Saturday and Sunday as the emerging Mexican middle class
spends their weekends there on some sort of day pass.
I posted photos on flickr
Check out the link as I cannot convey how beautiful the place is with mere words.

Tip your maid every day (leave the money under the pillow) as they work so hard to keep the place immaculate

My husband and I and three friends spent a week at the Barcelo and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We loved the beautifully landscaped grounds, free night time shows and very tasty food. Service staff were always very helpful. We had excellent tours of Colima/Comala and of nearby birding sites conducted by Bahia de SAntiago Tours (Ricardo Ceballos). Tours were arranged by the hotel. Comala is quite a treasure, capturing Mexico of historic times. We visited a great birding area and turtle sanctuary. A very memorable vacation!
