A very interesting area and worth a special trip. Located at the south end of the city with lots of great places to grab a drink or a meal and watch the sunset. For some reason this beach has lots of beach glass to forge for.

The beach was nice, the water warm, the people friendly, the fruit salads had a fresh ripe taste unlike anywhere else. Awesome seeing the sunset from that part of the coast. Don't forget to try the seafood, and ask for the "agua chile camaron", the best shrimp cocktail this side of the continent rivaling even New Orleans.

While my wife and I never went swimming at Olas Altas it was definitely a great spot to visit in Maz. The pace seems more laid back in Olas Altas, there's plenty of dining options, the views are great, and the beach isn't filled with vendors like Playa Gaviotas up in the Golden Zone. If we return to Mazatlan we decided that we will stay in Olas Altas as it is quieter, more scenic, and closer to a lot of the more desirable attractions like Centro and the galleries and museums. It's no wonder so many snow birds call this end of the city home!

The beach here is much smaller than the main long corona-shaped beach of Mazatlan where most tourist go. The malecon here is shorter and more intimate, which I prefer. there are cafes, bars and restaurants and a couple of hotels across the street from the water front. Lovely views can be had from either end of the beach on either Ice Box Hill of the hill between Olas Altas and the El Faro. Perfect place for watching the sunset.

Just went today! The beach was clean, safe, and beautiful! Near the beach are coffee shops, even a Dairy Queen after you walk a ways. The best thing was the freedom. In Mexico all the beaches belong to the people. You can walk all the way to the old town by following the coast and find some magnificent shells if you go early enough!
