“budget vacation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2014

I got a great deal on this vacation that being said you get what you pay for...this hotel caters to the locals first and foremost...the weekends are just plain nuts there I was told they can get a pass to the hotel for around 50 us...also there is a large conference centre so it is very busy thru the week...the rooms are small but clean except for the dry rot in the wood trim...staff is very friendly and go out of the way to make you feel special...one major downside is the timeshare staff very very pushy and don't seem to want to take no for an answer...after several times telling the woman I was not interested she called me rude and swore at me in Spanish nice real nice...the beach is great you can walk for miles and miles the vendors are annoying but they take no for an answer the first time...the food well it's okay I've had much better in mexico...because of all the timeshare vacationers you have a two or three tier system for booze the first day they had sparkling wine by the 3 day they had run out except the people beside us were having it...we didn't upgrade to the elite package as it was 49 us pp per day...also they had a theme night at the el patio across the street but it was an additional 20 us per person to eat and see the show...we've been to several all inclusive resorts in mexico of the years we're never been asked to pay additional for entertainment...also this sunday is superbowl and they charging 250 pesos per person to watch it in the bar area free beer... like I said it was a budget vacation but the extra charges add up real fast...there is no entertainment except the same 3 band members each night in the lobby bar...we went the last week of January not a lot of kids but everyone seems to be retirement age...if you're on a budget and you don't need night life and you get a great deal it's worth it...would we be back no not at any price...

Dear Rjleonard,

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive comments as well and your constructive criticism. Being so that El Cid Castilla is our most large hotel we always tend to host conferences frequently, I do apologize for the disruption they may have caused as well as the poor behavior the time share personal demonstrated I have already talked to them and re enforced them on how they should approach a guest and respect their wishes. Being so that you had the all inclusive I’d like to clarify that you did not have to pay extra to watch the super bowl the 250 pesos were only charged for people who were not all inclusive. Despite some inconveniences I’m glad that my staff was kind and friendly with you and was able to serve your every need. I hope in a near future you will re consider us and have us change your outlook.

Warm regards,

the staff was great, the rooms were OK, the food was iffy at best but we've kind of come to expect that of most places in Mexico, the bars were all quite good, very little english spoken so a little hard to explain certain things but we all managed to have a great time. The best part of the whole trip was Tomas, he was willing to bend over backwards and make our vacation all it could be, super friendly and always making sure we had a drink in our hands, make sure you look for Tomas.

We were not all inclusive but ordered a few meals off the menu at the pool, food was amazing, the nachos were second to none that I have ever had, chicken, beef, shrimp, beans, ... and the next day we ordered the lunch platter for two, we laughed when the waiter brought it to the table there was easily enough food for 6 people and it was fabulous! Steak, chorizo, chicken, guacamole and the list goes on, great staff and would defiantly stay here at the El Cid Castilla again, If you go to Mazatlan and its the first time you are there, I would recommend a city tour near the beginning of your holiday, its a great tour and a great way to find places to go to after the tour is over.

Room Tip: Im sure they are all ocean view in this hotel

We booked El Cid Castilla Beach through Sun Country Vacations making this all-inclusive very affordable for our family of six. We had a pool view room which surprisingly also offered a partial ocean view! The pool view rooms were in the lower towers which were closer to the beach and pool areas. The rooms were a little out-dated and the beds were very firm but that is not what made our vacation memorable-it was the staff and the service provided. Everything was very clean and I would bet every time we passed one of the hotel employees, we were always welcomed with a smile and a enthusiastic greeting. The people were so friendly and accommodating. The bar/food service by the pool was incredible and the activity directors hosting the hourly games-including darts, volleyball, bingo, stretching, ping pong tournaments, etc. made this a fun experience. The pool and beach areas were clean, open and always had plenty of lounge chairs available. There was never any lack of service and nobody in our family ever went thirsty. Excellent club house with updated exercise equipment. The full service restaurants served delicious meals with prompt service! We were not fans of the dinner buffet at La Pergala but we only tried it once because there were so many other options. Never a bad meal at any of the breakfast buffets or full service breakfast restaurants! The Ceviche at the snack bar by the ocean was divine and the snack bar had such a great variety of food, no taste buds would leave this seaside restaurant without something they liked. Thank you to El Cid Castilla Beach and their staff for making our vacation wonderful!

Dear, Julie P

We would like to thank you for choosing El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel as a place to stay during their trip to Mazatlan and also for your nice and encouraging comments about us. This is the only effective way to learn, from a guests’ perspective, our strong, but also our weak points and to improve our service.

I really appreciate your kind comments about our enthusiastic and staff, good views, food and beverage etc.. Are very pleased that you were, nevertheless, satisfied with the activities around the pool and service there.

We are very proud of our have a team which provides some of the very best atmosphere even more relaxing…it is nice to read you enjoyed them as well.

Please let us know the next time you’re coming to the sunniest city in Mexico so we can take good care of you at our hotel, hopefully, for a longer stay.

Best Regards,

Booked a last minute deal to get out of the cold!
Mazatlan was very nice, clean and very friendly people-
El Cid castilla was very nice. Very clean. rooms decent- have never really found a comfortable bed in mexico but we slept just fine :)
They push vacation sales there and around town. We did take the tour through El Cid to get the freebies and reduced excursions. It was informative but not pushy. they were repectful of the time we gave them and took no for an answer, which was very refreshing. 90 minutes and done. it's actually something we may consider further in our life, just doesn't fit into our plan right now.
Food- Decent, nice variety of choices, Sushi/Japanese, Italian, Mexican and Argintina for specialty restaraunts. we enjoyed all of them, probably Italian and Argintine our top picks-
All workers, working hard long days and very friendly. we had great pool service from our friend Enriquo :)
For a decent price (which we got) would most definately come back to Mazatlan and stay with El Cid :) There are plenty of places nearby in town to eat and drink if you are not on the all inclusive plan. even with all those options around town, we enjoyed our all inclusive package and would do it again!

We were able to book an inexpensive last minute week at this resort. We really enjoyed ourselves! We were tired when we showed up and were not given the type of room we had requested. So our first day was a little off. We had our room of choice after 2 nights with the help of front counter staff Charlene! We also received great tour advice and help booking golf from Thersa at the concierge desk. She was so helpful. There were many wonderful servers! To mention some outstanding ones were Sylvestre, Alejandro, Ricardo and Ivan. The view was amazing, the food was between tasty and fabulous deoending where you went and the pools and grounds were pretty and enjoyable. We would definately go back!

Was looking for a budget week of warm weather . We booked a great deal through suncountry that included the whole package airfare transfers rooms & all inclusive. All inclusive was a little confusing with which restaurants you could use front desk said all & some waiters said not included but we never had a charge. breakfast buffet was good quite a few choices men must wear sleeved shirts. Lunch buffet by pool & beach was very good lot of choices always included pizza, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, pasta, soup, chicken fish, salads, taco bar, several deserts, potatoes ,French fries, rice & more. There was always one item being grilled daily we had beef steak, pork chops, pork ribs, chicken & fish that I can remember & were happy with all. Waiter staff was great as mentioned in other posts. Drinks were good had alcohol for sure & they kept them coming. We did tip a buck or two each or every other round & got great service, Beach chairs were plentiful Thatched palapas were hard to find as people were playng the towel game reserving them. You could rent an umbrella from beach guy but always aggravated me with palapas sitting empty with towels reserving spot. Rooms were good maid service was good also always had clean towels & rarely saw them, Excellent showers with good pressure & hot water. We did the fiesta & tried the Italian restaurant which was good. Overall great stay very satisfied & hope to return if price stays that good.

Room Tip: We were on 9th floor away from noise
