This was my sixth trip to Mazatlan, and i usually stay in the Zona Dorada, but i'd heard so many good things about Emerald Bay. Everything about it was first rate, from the people in the lobby to the 3 swimming pools and the landscaping! Our room was right above the hot tub at the adult pool, and we had a wonderful ocean view! The service was great, especially Mario and Raul at the bar by the adult pool. There's also a large family pool and a newer pool with a restaurant at the end of the property Plus there's another restaurant in the middle of the property that hosted different themed parties each night. We went to the Mexican fiesta on Sunday night. The food was typical Mexican fare, and the dancers and singers were very good. I was initially worried that Emerald Bay was far away from the action of downton and the Zona Dorada, but they have free shuttle service to the other Pueblo Bonito hotel, and from there, we walked or caught a pulmonia (downtown was 90 pesos). All in all, a wonderful stay.
Can't wait to go back!

Thoroughly surprised and delighted. We are not all-inclusive fans, deplore buffets and generally enjoy getting away from the resort atmosphere to enjoy the surroundings and local foods, activities, etc. So, who would have thought that with four weeks at PBEB, we would soak up 4 weeks of all-inclusive ($48 per person includes alcohol AFTER the timeshare presentation..whatever you do, don't buy in advance of arrival!) and leave the property only 3 times? The food here is seriously, seriously great. Staff is marvelous, our building and room were nothing short of meticulous, and except for the pricey wireless and daily internet connection problem, maintenance and access were ideal. The daily housekeeping, complete with fresh flowers and hand-rolled towels, was better than anywhere -- China, Japan, Singapore, Hawaii, take your pick of service orientations...

The beach is a great beach to run during low-tide, and while not sugary, powdery sand by a long stretch, it's a fascinating rocky beach with captivating sea life that is revealed during low tide, and hidden during high tide. Probably one of the more unusual stretches of coastline during low-tide that we've enjoyed.

Spa was over the top pricey, but generally good. Gym and daily classes, including pilates, yoga and even a Zen meditation on the beach were welcomed options. The place aims to please, even if your heart's desire is to sit by the pool mindlessly painting ceramics!

Our ocean view and balcony surely helped make the stay, but it would have been improved by a unit closer the water, and ideally with a bedroom on the water side. Buildings 18-20 are relatively quiet, removed from the pool activities and you can get a great ocean view if you don't mind two beds instead of one king. Our sense was there were not enough of the latter with balconies to meet the demand. We came to enjoy the daily walk to the restaurants of our choice.

Mazatlan itself, we found to be safe, despite the security hype from the US and Canadian markets. No more dangerous than any American city, just use common sense and watch what's going on around you.

If staying in Matzatlan, we highly recommend this resort as the best available. Use the shuttle to the sister PB closer to town, take advantage of the wine pairing dinners there, and hire a cab from the front of that resort to take you wherever you want to go in Old Mazatlan. The shopping, food and spa options ($30 for 90 minutes, compared to $90 for 30 minutes onsite!) in Old Mazatlan are well worth venturing out at least for 1-2 days. Beach at the sister property is a great venue for sunset. Do it at least once!

Room Tip: If you want ocean front ask for balcony rooms on 3rd or 4th floors in buildings 18-20. Note you may...

Loved the coconut shrimp so much that I ordered it daily at poolside. The service was excellent and it was cooked to perfection. The rooms were clean daily and our room service and maid service was outstanding. We faced the pool and had ocean views with balcony. The weather was beautiful and we had a good time. They had daily events going on and lots for the kids to do. We visitied April of 2011 spring break week.

We had booked PBEB after reading all the reviews on various sites. Maybe it was just the rooms they had for us - but the rooms were old and dusty. We had a master suite in one of the two buildings near the pool and it was loud with hardly any ocean view. The most amazing thing was that the master suite did not have a balcony or any outdoor place to enjoy a morning cup of tea...this after I had called prior to making a reservation and I was told that there was a terrace from the master suite (they did not tell me that it was a shared terrace on top of the building with no seating arrangements)

It was hard to take a shower in any of the two bathrooms as the water pressure in the showers was almost just a trickle. Housekeeping only made beds...no dusting, sweeping or moping as I could see dirt from the morning left behind even after housekeeping.

We also got the feeling of being nickel & dimed - the fitness center was extra; to borrow racquets for tennis was extra; we were charged additional 50 pesos to clean the two glasses we used for water...everything was extra other than the shuttle to town (which was very useful since we always felt like getting away from the resort). Service could've been friendlier and food was just ok.

Maybe it was just our experience or maybe I am comparing with other similar star hotels/villas we have stayed at previously in other cities in Mexico. We will definitely not be going back to this hotel.

Room Tip: As far as I can tell, the buildings away from the pool may be better than the two right next to it.

This was our third stay at PBEB. We were disappointed that our room request was lost and there is no longer a free "welcome" drink on arrival. We went to have a beer and lunch while waiting for our room to be available and low and behold, the room request was honored, if not found. We had a few minor problems during our first few days. The safe had to be replaced upon arrival and the next day when I opened the refirigerator door the horrible odor about put me on the floor. We immediately called the service desk and the offending refrigerator was quickly removed and replaced. We were very pleased with the efficiency and good humor the staff showed when dealing with our problems.
We loved the food and found it to be even better than years past. Le Cordelaire(sp?) has an awesome Sunday Brunch that is beautifully displayed. We also enjoyed the Italian night and found the Italian food there much better than that at Angelo's. Sorry Angelo's, but I must tell it as we taste it.Steak night is also wonderful. We ate some lunches at the Bistro and a few dinners. The food was good and abundant.
We purchased the 3 day "all inclusive" which was just enough. We did not want to over-eat and drink just because we had "all inclusive." We did enjoy those 3 days ! We would definitely purchase 3 days again. It is a great addition to our stay.
My only complaint is that there are not enough chaise lounges at the quiet pool. We had to go down to the main pool and bring some chaises up to use at the quiet pool.
We really loved the hot tubs, showers, team room, and rock walk at the spa too. It was a great treat and a lovely way to relax. We are anticipating next year's trip!

Room Tip: The 3rd and 4th floors provide the best views.

Stayed in the villas and have our own pool and jacuzzi. This place is so clean and the people are so friendly. Why bother staying anywhere else. This place is the best place to stay in Mazatlan. REALLY!
