“YOU CAN"T MISS IF YOU STAY HERE!!”
Reviewed 12 March 2010

Captain and Dorothy were the most delightful hosts to have. The place is beutiful inside and out. The Neighboorhood is awesome and the people are very friendly. If you plan on visiting Mazatlan, this is the place to stay if you want a experience that is very personal. OH YES, you have to eat in the courtyard there and visit with the house dog Zoe. Thanks Captain and Dorothy for the wonderful time.

What a find! We've stayed here twice and have enjoyed each stay immensely. The breakfasts are wonderful, not only because of the food, but also because of the company: Dorothy and Moe are fun, have many interesting stories and tips to share, and really make you feel comfortable and at home. We travel with a small dog and their generosity and welcome attitude extended to our little pup. They are very “laid back” and accommodating; I honestly don't know how they do it. The rooms surround a small courtyard and “common” area, yet you get a distinct feel of privacy. Our room during our second stay even had an outside table and chairs that overlooked the courtyard, but if that room is not available, don't despair—all of the rooms are nice. The parking is on-street, but we were able to park our van right outside our window for each visit so no worries there.

Centrally located in the Gaviotas area, Captain Moe's is three short blocks from the Gold Zone and main road that heads either north to the marina area or south to the historic district, Plaza Machado, and beyond. Buses run about every 5 to 10 minutes, but if you prefer, you can also hail a Pulmonia or taxi on the same main street. On those nights you feel like staying close to home, simply walk throughout the Gold Zone for shopping, eating, and beaches. So convenient!

So, let's recap: you wake in the morning to the sounds of songbirds and the smell of fresh coffee. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean, each room has a small refrigerator, WiFi throughout, and there's plenty of hot water. The biggest decisions you'll have are how you'd like your eggs, what type of bread or pastries you'd prefer, and whether you'd like juice, fruit, yogurt, or all three with your breakfast. What's not to like? Oh, a word to the wise: watch out for the rum cake. It's incredibly wonderful says my husband.

Now for the TMI part of this review: Even though it's not PC, I like cream in my coffee. Not milk, cream. I had purchased heavy cream (because it was all I could find) at Mega, but heavy cream often curdles in hot coffee, which makes the coffee more a topic of discussion than a morning beverage. Yesterday, when I went down for breakfast, lo and behold, there was fresh “para cafe” half 'n half waiting for me. I know it meant an extra trip for Dorothy, but she did it. It's just an example of the little things they do to make your stay enjoyable. I'm not saying that will happen every morning, nor am I saying that everyday will start with rum cake, but I am willing to say, with some degree of confidence, that Moe and Dorothy will do whatever they can to make your stay comfortable and special and that's more than enough for me.

Moe and Dorothy were amazing hosts. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Easy access to the main drag, walk just a few blocks to shopping, restaurants, the beach, etc. My best vacation ever, and we would gladly stay at Captain Moe's again!

Captain Moe's Bed and Breakfast is not only a bed and breakfast, but we felt it was and "all inclusive" . Dorothy and Moe provide you with invaluable local tips for shopping, taxi's and what to see that might interest you. It was like having our own personal travel consultant ! We stayed for 2 months and loved it!!

Their sense of humor and laid back style is so refreshing that it really makes you feel at home. You won't want to leave!!!!! A must stay while in MAZATLAN!!!

Captain Moes B & B is outstanding! Very comfortable and lots of Charactor! Captain Moe and Dorothy are above and beyond your expectation for hosts. They work very hard and they are a great team to watch. Moe is the chef extrodinaire and he really wipes up an awesome breakfast. The breakfast every morning is eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurts, juices, coffee and pastries, Yummy! Every request we had they obliged us and we can not say Gracious enough! Of course, there is Zoey who was not feeling well during our stay, I hope she is back on her feet! Zoey is the real Captain of the ship there for sure and as fellow pet owners we loved their effection for her! There is free WIFI and telephone use which was very convenient! There is a roof top terrace that has a couple anti-gravity chairs which are fall asleep comfortable and the view is awesome! We will be back! Thank You for another great visit and accommodations!

My wife and I just returned from a week at Captain Moe's b&b in Mazatlan. Both Captain Moe and his wife Dorothy (aka The Admiral) made us feel like family within five minutes of arrival. The other guests were all remarkably friendly , and we all spent many hours on the patio talking and laughing about life, love, politics and the world in general. A side benefit is all the money you'll save and the delicious meals you'll enjoy following their recommendations. The physical building and rooms are all comfortable and attractive, but the real draw is Moe and Dorothy, not to mention their Jack Russel terrier Zoe. Who says money can"t buy you love? It's available here for $60 a night.

We had the pleasure of staying at Captain Moe's in November 2009. We were driving to Manzanillo and only planned to stay one night. One look at our accommodations and we extended our stay. Our room was beautiful. King sized bed, huge bathroom, in room safe (can hold a laptop) great reading lights and an outdoor living space that is truly an oasis in the Golden Zone. Dorothy & Moe made us feel at home in a heartbeat. Their Jack Russell, Zoe was an added bonus. The outdoor living space is full of plants and trees, a huge table & umbrella, and a rooftop terrace with comfortable seating to enjoy the sunsets. Internet is available in your room or out in the patio area. All the extra little touches make this B&B very special. We look forward to staying with Dorothy & Moe everytime we are in Mazatlan. Thank you for your hospitality.
