“Charming property with beautiful & Impeccably maintained grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2010

This property is primarily timeshare oriented but they do offer normal nightly rates and accomodations. We stayed here three weeks and in three different units including a Junior Suite (large unit in their newer tower with a kitchen, dining area and semi-isolated bedroom area; large balcony with ocean view); a 1 bedroom in their Inca Tower (2 double beds, 2 baths, full kitchen, dining and great patio-no TV in the bedroom-ocean view) and a "studio" (basic hotel room with small old refrigerator and coffee maker, desk, nice patio. The studio unit, while adequate, was nothing to write home about and needed some refurbishing, upgrading and maintenance. The other rooms were most acceptable and quite spacious (altho maintenance was not perfect particularly in the kitchens). Check in was uneventful and all employees were extremely gracious and service oriented. We moved weekly as we own timeshares and are members of RCI so we were using trades and weeks rented from owners. During these transitions, the front desk was very helpful with information and with special requests. My suggestion toward executing any needed special requests or accomodations prior to arrival however, would be to definitely make arrangements directly with this Inn location and NOT the corporate Salt Lake City offices of Holiday Management. (The attitudes, attention to detail and follow-thru was obviously much better!).

The Inn is definitely NOT remote but, we think it has an excellent location nearby many other beach resorts, restaurants, shops, grocery, banks etc. Bus lines run by the Inn and for a few cents you can get to nearly any part of the city. The pools, grounds and flowers are impeccably maintained and truly outstanding resulting in a certain charm about the place that is almost magic and obviously under the direction and care of expert groundskeepers. The front desk and bellman staff are outstanding albeit the security staff always seemed to be a bit overzealous.
The restaurant and food is very good but a bit on the pricey side with the menu kind of outdated and on the boring side. The service was kinda hit and miss (i.e. during one meal, you might be served by 3 to 5 different wait-staff members-but NOT the same one twice! It was just like magic they seemed to dissapear.) Never once were we approached by a management/host/hostess person asking about our satisfaction. Drinks were overpriced considering the other places we visited. I guess to compensate they offer almost non-stop "happy hours" most of the day for "national" drinks. Be careful to ask the price when "calling' a brand or wine!!

Organized recreational activities are scheduled daily and posted on a board by the towel station but frequently do not happen for whatever reason. Daily water aerobics were fun and Spanish classes were good. Organized tours can be arranged through a desk in the lobby. The Wednesday night Fiesta meal and show was good.

The controversy alluded to earlier in a post about the run-down adjoining property has been long resolved and it is now a beautiful Best Western Inn. We checked out there rooms and were tempted to move there from our week in the marginal studio but didn't want the hassle of trying to get refunds etc. Besides that, we had become quite attached to some of the staff at the Inn and enjoyed the ambiance and conveniences. Staying there might be a better option for a few nights if your scheduled week at the Inn did not coincide with your travel schedule and to avoid the older studio/hotel rooms at the Inn.

A US-educated physician is at the property with a office and a full time nurse which proved to be a real plus for us. A spa is also located on premises. Wi-Fi is available to a degree (signals vary greatly) but at very inflated price ($7 per day!! ---but go to Rico's coffee house across the street, enjoy an excellent cup and get it FREE!). Local phone calls were about 45 cents US but ask for an "800" operator and you get a whopping $2.50 charge whether they answer or not. No other unusual charges were appeared on our bill. The Exercise room left a bit to be desired with most of the equipment older and poorly maintained...and the TV did not work.

Safes are provided in most rooms and if they are not, a free safety-deposit box is available at the front desk. Cable TV was available in the rooms but were primarily in Espanol other than the boring Fox and CNN International Headline news channels. A nightly movie is featured on the Inn/s TV channel and there were several other movie channels.

The facility is fairly handicap friendly although NOT completely with two of the floors in the older Hotel section requiring stairs.
Transportation TO the Inn from the Airport can be arranged prior to arrival for a small cost and via a very nice AC bus with the agent awaiting you after you emerge from customs -holding a sign). The same service was NOT available for the return to the airport and the taxi cost about $20US if I remember correctly.

The Inn at Mazatlan is actually a great place to stay despite all the above with most guests seemingly returning annually... and they are always ready to offer suggestions about Mazatlan and places to eat etc.. If the Inn's management company/owners were as enthusiastic about maintenance, refurbishing and providing value as the employees are about service and guest satisfaction, this COULD BE an absolutely OUTSTANDING & EXCELLENT property! Even though, we certainly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel was better than we expected. It had a really nice reception area, the pools were heated, one a warmer than the other, the service was outstanding, and it was really nice to have breakfast on the terrace (quiet and peaceful). What I would recommend is to avoid the studios, they are at the lower level, and although they are very nice, once they show the suites in the new tower, you will definitely want to stay there. Next time, we will just book the suites ahead of time. The view from the suite's balcony was outstanding, the sunsets as well as the sunrises, superb! The suites also have a kitchenette, so we saved a ton of money on breakfasts and some snacks, which we could keep in a small fridge. We went for leisure, but also because I wanted to get lisosuction done, my husband also went to get a second opinion on an issue he had with his spine. I would recommend Dr. Anna Chang, plastic surgeon, I am extremely happy with the results, and Resomaz is the radiology clinic where my husband went for a second opinion, he was extremely happy with his experience as well. Badlands is a new coffe house next to the hotel, if you come out of the hotel, make a right, stay on the same sidewalk and you won't miss it. It is brand new, very modern, clean, excellent service and their coffee selection is good. I would also recommend a restaurant called "ME", the presentation and quality of the dishes was excellent, a bit expensive, but you pay for what you get.

My wife and stayed here for 13 days. The room and the grounds kept very clean. We were on the second floor and had a partial view of the ocean. It was nice to watch the sunset and hear the waves.

Yolanda did a great job keeping the room clean. She even made a tinfoil cover the for the shower drain to prevent the sewer gas from getting into the bathroom. We noticed the smell in the bathroom as soon as we open the door to the bathroom. We should have switch rooms but I like being close to the main floor.

I'm not sure why but any sound in the hallway seemed to be amplified right through the door into the room. I could clearly hear footsteps, conversations, doors closing and the beeping of the weight room equipment. I didn't hear much from ocean side of the room other than the muffle sound of ocean waves. It took about 4 nights to get accustom to the noise. Perhaps having the AC on would have help drown out the noise but we didn’t need to turn it on.

The other thing I found that made for a difficult sleep was the hard beds. I ended sleeping on top of the blankets and that seem to help my back in the morning.

We brought down are own coffee and filters down which turned out to be good idea. Coffee was 2.50 USD per package at the hotel and Rico’s across the street doesn’t sell ground coffee anymore. So we save a little bit money and got to drink some decent coffee.

The number of tourists in Mazatlan was way down which made it easy to find lounge chair at the pool except for one day.

This is a great hotel for seniors and young families. I think singles would be bored here.

Overall the cleanliness of the hotel made up for the other short comings of the room.

Checked in on Monday, room had not yet be cleaned by 5pm. Next day cleaned earlier, however the maid left dirty glasses and took clean ones. Complained to on-site manager, their first question was "are you a time-share member here", when the answer was no, the next question was "would you like a tour i.e., sales pitch for a timeshare. When the second response was no, we were treated as non -persons. Unless you own a timeshare there or plan to buy one, avoid this place, as there are better options for the money. Also, they wanted US$7/day for internet access.

we had a wonderful stay at the inn. and yes, i would definitely stay there again. the staff were very attentive and of course sylvia our room attentant took excellant care of us. we were only approached once from time share staff and that was upon our arrival. we graciously declined and were never bothered again by them, in the hotel that is. it's entirely different out on the street. your fair game out there. you will find yourself saying "no gracios" quite a lot. back at the hotel... we had a junior suite because it allows for cooking which can come in quite handy when your tired of eating out. the hotel is perfectly situated on the beach right in the middle of everything. excellant location, just a short walk to the malacon and shopping. the hotel restaurant is also very good, great selection and very attentive staff and of course very clean. if i could give one thumbs down, and there always is one, try for a room that doesn't front to the street as the noise can get quite out of hand as the bars stay open till about 4am or till nobodys left, either way it can keep you awake. combine that with the beds are very hard, but other than that we had a most memorable stay and would certainly do it again.my wife and i did a walk through many of the hotels on the strip and we both agree that the inn is about the nicest one there. we made a good choice. enjoy your stay, i'm sure you will. hola.

The hotel exceeded our expectations..The pools were awsome one of them warm and the other one was cold. The entire hotel staff was excellent and allways super attentive of all our needs. The Restarants Seafood dishes were out standing especially the jumbo prawns on the evening menu(make sure there the largest ones),great guocomole & Salsa's,shrimp cocktail was good,Enchillads were good too, although I Would veer away from the Beef dishes in general(the Beef is not aged to North American Standards). Great Happy hour Specials on drinks most of the day and does quite down after 10pm.The only issue I had with the area is the condo time share sales people and the locals in your face kinda bothering you everywhere you go beach or street..
