The unusual in this small exquisite inn is the extraordinary art peeping through some of the most gorgeous tropical gardens. This carries through to the inside where the talented artist owner has continued her unique style..Located in a somewhat quiet residential area it only a short trip to the beaches and public transportation is nearby,,,But who would want to go outside those magical walls when you could be swimming in that glorious pool or having those wonderful healthy meals served there..Color is every where...

If you'd like to try someplace unique and wonderful, check out Hacienda Mosaico in the Versailles District (in between airport and old town)of Puerto Vallarta. HM is located in a residential neighborhood, but only a couple of blocks away from the beach one direction and a commercial district in the other. Buses are easy to catch, and cheap, if you want to travel to other parts of the city. HM is enclosed by a painted and mosaic'd wall that surrounds the gardens, pool, accomodations and studio space.

When you step inside the garden door, you're greeted by bursts of color from the outdoor kitchen/bar next to the pool as well as flowers, and sculpture located throughout the grounds. Inside each accomodation unit decorated with tiles, mosaic, and COLOR, you'll find an amazing assortment of artwork; paintings, sculpture, decorated furniture. A visual feast everywhere you turn!

Hacienda Mosaico is a bed and breakfast. Your breakfast is lovingly prepared by a local woman and her husband. It is an incredible assortment of delicous local cuisine, hot dishes and fresh fruits and juices. A great way to start the day. There are also a couple of small restaurants within two blocks as well as an outstanding taco stand just around the corner.

Sam (Sandra Leonard), the owner and host, is not only an artist herself, but also is a work of art. Beautiful and gracious, Sam manages to make each guest feel at home and like an old friend. My husband and I stayed at HM on our way to another part of Mexico. We enjoyed our stay so much when we first arrived in Mexico, that we changed our plans so that we could stay there again on our way home.

If you're at all interested in art, HM is a wonderful place to stay just to be surrounded by it. If you're interested in participating in making art, it's even more wonderful. The HM website lists upcoming workshops. While we were there, there was a workshop being conducted that involved making garden sculpture. The atmosphere at HM is totally supportive. It is a place to be inspired! Can't say enough good things. And can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Rooms inside the main hacienda tend to be quieter :)

I've just returned from my seventh annual trip to the Hacienda, and am counting the months until next March when I can go again. I've taken several workshops, but the last two years I went just to hang out with one of the artists that teaches there every year. I don't have enough words in my vocabulary to say how beautiful, peaceful, enjoyable and inspiring the Hacienda is. Sam is a wonderful hostess who makes visitors' comfort and enjoyment her number one priority. From the minute I open the gate into the tropical paradise, I'm inspired, and the inspiration I get from a week there keeps me busy artistically for another year. The food is wonderful, the staff is superb, and Sam's home personifies the word "art". Too beautiful to explain. One has to experience this place to believe it. I guarantee anyone that one visit won't be the last. You'll want to go back again and again and again and again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different and created and decorated by Sam the owner. She is a true artist in eve...

We just returned from a Mexican vacation in Yelapa, with one final night at Hacienda Mosaico in Puerto Vallarta. Visitors on the sidewalk have no idea what they will find as they approach the heavy metal door and high stucco walls in the pleasant neighborhood. The lush and colorful jungle-like paradise opens up as you enter from the street into the pool area, and then step beyond. It's an amazing experience to wander the grounds, which move from inside to outside and back again. A great deal of creativity and thought went into the development of this place, which is beautiful and tranquil. It's mainly a lodging for artists, with a huge, covered outdoor studio area. The public areas and rooms are decorated in a wide array of colors, designs, mosaics. Instead of checking in and taking off to tour parts of the city, we stayed at the Hacienda for the entire afternoon because it seemed like a waste to leave. Owner is delightful, breakfast very good. Stay here.

The fairy god mothers touched their wands here. It is a magical haven that embraces the heart of Puerto Vallarta. Puerto Vallarta is a city that is an artist's dream and Sam the owner of the Hacienda Mosaico captures the city's spirit in it's own mosaic like sanctuary. We stayed here for two nights and from the moment I walked through the front door I was enchanted with the colors, gardens, the artwork and the incredibly warm staff. I was genuinely sad to say goodbye when I left. I looked forward every morning to actually wake up early and have a wonderfully delicious home cooked fresh Mexican breakfast by the Hacienda staff. We would all gather by the big table by the pool and have a little morning Siesta. Although we did go into town a couple times it was so hard not to get lost behind the walls and never want to leave. I found myself spending hours in the living area rummaging through Sam's book collection of art and travel. I brought my own books to read while I was there, but I spent the entire time laying on the hammock reading hers. For someone from a city like New York, for me it was a peaceful place to relax, be inspired, spend time with family, but also spend time alone and get lost in her abyss. I definitely want to come back and take some art classes. I immediately told everyone I know about this place!! If you stay here you will somehow become part of this Hacienda family and will find a way to return.

Room Tip: Honestly my boyfriend's mom gave me the option to choose out of the two rooms we were staying in...

Puerto Vallarta is a pretty beautiful place but who knew how far the rabbit hole could go? After stepping into the artistic and serene boundaries of Hacienda Mosaico, my mind was blown and soul completely at ease. It is an traveller's dream quarters and an artists candy shop. Thanks Sam and Stella!
