“Our PV stay”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

We decided on a non-all inclusive stay this trip. We chose this hotel for its location and the fact that it's on the beach. We had a room with a living area. A mid-size rusty fridge was in the living area too. Our deck had a kitchen table with chairs (all old - would've been nice to have a patio set - style table with chairs). The outdoor area had a very old sink and a four-burner stove. The rooms were very boring - no decorations. We only got two towels a day - no hand towels. There was no "do not disturb" for the door. House cleaning would knock at 9:00 a.m. and after telling them we weren't ready to leave yet, they wouldn't come back until late afternoon when we were already back! The bed was GREAT - best bed in PV:) The front desk people were ok. I don't know if they liked a gay couple staying there. It was mostly older, retired people in the hotel. Our biggest gripe was the beach. We love to sit on the beach under an umbrella and have a couple lounge chairs. Well, this option was very limited. We were told that we could use the umbrellas and chairs and not feel obligated to purchase anything from the restaurant (separately owned from the hotel). That worked two days. On the third day, we had our chairs and umbrella. Well, we got up for a walk. When we came back, the head waiter moved our stuff onto a single sitting chair and gave our loungers and umbrella away. We didn't sit out there again. We bought day passes at the Playa Lost Arcos hotel nearby. The bed and location were the best things. Oh I forgot, they were doing some construction above us - banging started about 8:00 a.m. from somewhere in the building!

we stayed in rooms on city side--a tiny dark room with two small hard beds with one pillow and a sheet---lots of street noise---no blankets and one towel--we asked to upgrade to a better room -- was told we had to wait until satuday and could upgrade for more money --we waited until satuday then was told the room was not available---we moved to another hotel--- Do not stay here with out beach side room!!!

Stayed here two weeks feb ,14; fourth time staying here. Been coming to PV for 30+ years and have stayed all over. Hotel zone, marina, and zona romantico. This simple hotel hugging the beach is my favorite. Constant improvements are welcome. Best rooms are the standard suites, they have outdoor living spaces ( so much bigger than a balcony) with kitchens. They have even upgraded the famous rock hard PV matresses to regular ones. No attempt to save energy, the efficient split units are even turned on by the maids. Very clean, both room maids and porters are very thourough. Ian at front desk is a treasure. Only complaint is that they,ve become very popular, make sure you book ahead. I think I paid about $80/nite with expedia package...walkin price for standard suites was $115. Street side rooms are about $50 on expedia. Great value in the best area.

Room Tip: Avoid lower floors because of the restaurant, view is of the roof! Rooms vary....stardard rooms....s...

I have to say, the Emperador was a great value!! The location can't be beat, I walked to everything. I booked a junior suite with a great ocean view. Make sure you spend the extra $$ and get a suite. The room was are a bit out dated but are very clean. The staff is amazing. Especially Ivan. I didn't give this place 5 stars for two reasons, one; the rooms need to at least have some decor to the walls. Put up a few pictures. Second my biggest pet peeve...Wifi only available in the lobby! it was annoying to come down there to sit with other guest to check on email etc. It's 2014! it doesn't cost much to put wifi in all the rooms. Other than that I will be definitely booking for next year.

Room Tip: get a junior suite

My husband and I just returned from 12 nights at the Emperador. We knew from reviews that it was basic...but DID expect a shelf to put food, dishes, etc. There was a cabinet outside that the sink was in, but didn't feel comfortable using that for dishes, used a shelf in the open wardrobe instead. There was one sofa table that had to do for everything and almost nothing was included. Once we got over the shock of it and got a few things we grew to love it...we had a jr suite overlooking the beach right below us, there was lots of hot water,we both found the bed and pillows to be very comfortable, the airconditioner worked great, and the fridge was cold!! The jr suite means we had a few more feet of room and a couch, which we used as a clothes horse mainly. The bathroom was very small, so be sure to take one of those make-up bags that ties at the top to put on the hook beside the sink. You are supplied with bar soap, shampoo, bathroom towels but no facecloths. Things to bring: dishcloths and tea towels, dishwashing liquid, sos pad and scrubby, plug for sink, pot holder, tablecloth or placemats if you wish, salt and pepper, other spices, box of Kleenex, zip lock bags in asst sizes, paper towels, 'tupperware' for butter, vinegar or microdyn for cleaning fruits and vegetables. All this depends on how much cooking you intend to do, as there are so many great restaurants, but we had breakfast and lunch 'at home' every day. Had to wait a couple days for a coffee pot, and no toaster, so be warned. There are a couple small grocery stores that carry EVERYTHING so you don't have to go all the way down to Lay's. They don't cost that much more and are close...one down about a block to the right and on the other side of the street, and another on Olas Altas, both say pharmacy but carry so much else too. Not to mention all the Oxxo's etc. Two of our favorite restaurants are Café de Olla and Old Town Bistro, almost next to each other on Bassilo Badillo If you like reading there is a great 2nd hand book store and coffee bar "A place in the Sun" on the other side of the square, and be sure to check out the market on Saturday's at the square and a craft and food gem on Pilitas just half block over and half block up from the hotel. This is our 2nd trip to PV and both times to the Zona Romantica...love to walk up to the fresh market for produce, go to Colin meat market, Yalita Bakery, etc etc. Would definitely stay there again. Ian and Daniel at the desk are great, as well as the rest of the staff.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the water for sure!
