“Good hotel and location for the tourist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2011

Stayed here in March, hotel was good.

When arriving the hotel manager greeted us with two beverages, but I am kinda picky when it comes to alcohol since i didn't like the taste I just gave it to my friend and he drank it.
The manager had us sit down to let us know where we could go get things to eat and walk around, also where my friend can go and "have his type of fun". He had also mentioned some type of tours we could do, but I was on a real budget, but I still give him credit for taking the time to helping us out.
The hotel gives a wristband, so that no unauthorized "guest" enter the hotel. I learned this when my friend told me he tried to bring someone he met at a club and they didn't let him. So for one that's really great because one never knows how people are out there and I don't want to plan on getting robbed.
Also one thing that made me laugh was that an old man (tourist) was brushing his teeth like right outside out room window and while I was talking to my friend he just stopped talking to me for a bit and stared outside the window while the man took a peek inside our room, talk about creepy! So I guess keep your window closed? Or don't draw too much attention to your room...
Weekends this place is packed with the families of the employees, so be prepared. Also don't think there's any parking available at all for guest with cars so be ready to A. Don't take a car or B. just stick with a taxi.

So nice friendly staff, good security measures, and for those wondering, it is close to that one place called "Blue Chairs" (as my friend pointed out)...

For the right price I would probably stay here

First impressions were not all that great but a couple days we really started to enjoy ourselves. It is great if you want to be around locals because normally half the guests are.The staff are great all the waiters were wonderful especially Alvero, Gambino and Alex. Julio the activities director is wonderful he never walks, he runs. He goes to the nightclubs with people from the hotel 6 days a week. Be prepared to participate he is really good at getting people up and moving. I also recommend José he doesn't work for the hotel but sells tours on the beach he wears a red hat and has a moustache. He is a wonderful person. It is a great location their are wonderful restaurants in the area and close to the Malicon. It was very quite during the two weeks when we went and filled with locals on the weekends. We had a veiw of the hillside, which in my opinion was still a wonderful veiw. The food was on and off but it was normally simple and great for a picky eater. You may also encounter Cheeko the cat that often comes for a visit on the patio. He is very freindly and likes eggs, bacon and the breakfast sausage. Don't feed him to mush we don't want him getting fat.

Ariived at 1:00 P.M. and our room was ready. We were met at the front desk, by Luis, who welcomed us home. Check in was a breeze. Quick and simple. Unpacked and were on the beach with a drink in hand 15 mintues later. This was at least our third stay at this hotel and will always be our choice when looking for something in old town. The location is perfect for us. Right on the beach. We always book a package tour from Vancouver as we find this is the best deal. Typically we will upgrade to an ocean front room. The basic rooms on the side of the hotel will give you a view of the street and perhaps a peak at the ocean are very very basic and these rooms would not be my choice. Just email the hotel and they will tell you what is available on the ocean side. I assume price for the upgrade will vary depending on time of year. There really is a major difference being on the beach side though at balconies are a good size and it really nice to sit and watch the sun set. The rooms facing the beach really do offer an truly outstanding view of the bay. I would suggest floors 4 and above would give the best views. We typlically stay in 503 or 603. Again, do not expect posh. The rooms are clean but basic. What really makes this hotel is the staff. It was great to be recognized by all and see so many familiar faces. They really aim to please and cannot do enough for you. If you need something just ask as they will try to be as accomodating as possible. Breakfast is problaby the best meal of the day. The lunches are good and dinner is fine, but do get out and explore some of the great restaurants in the area. There are many to choose from. If this is your first trip to Mexico, this would be a good place to start. The area is safe, convenient and if you want to do some exploring either north or south it is a good base to start from. Many little shops in the area and you will find everything you need. Again I cannot say enough about the staff they are simply great!

Room Tip: Definitely book a beach front room.

We were lucky enough to ask for an upgrade after walking into out small and dark room. We upgraded to a beautiful large ocean-view room with a king bed for approx. $20/night; don't mind the cockroaches and the inability to sleep because of the music and noise if you're ocean front!

The food was horrible and repetitive but the drinks were decent. The hotel itself was outdated, the pool area was alright, the staff was alright, and beach was good. This place is WAY over-priced and especially at Christmas when we went (2008). I am writing this review now to warn potential visitors at Christmas!

Now, the ONLY reason why I would go back is for the location!!!! Some of the best restaurants and bars within a stones throw or a little hike. So, I would suggest that this would be the best place for those who don't care because they just love being in Old Town (which is me) or they got a smokin' deal!!!!

Location, excellent, close to Andales, Nacho Daddys, Que Pasa and Munchis our favorite gringo hang out. Dont go to a time share but if you do make sure you get $300 in cash. Mayan Palace is the worst hi pressure sales. Cheeky Monkey has moved to the ocean front just 4 blocks up the beach. $1 margaritas and beer all day. If your there from Dec 15th to April 1st make sure you hit the Mongolian Grill at La Huertas in Paso Ancho, just hop on an RO4 bus or take a taxi about 1pm, Mongolian buffet and marachis for $10 in a unique jungle setting that you will be telling every one about. Go to www.allvallartainfo.com and check out the bulletin board for the latest info. Have fun PV doug

Stayed at San Marino with my partner March 12-19, 2011. The location is amazing, right in the middle of downtown, beachfront.
Basic hotel, nothing fancy.
We went all inclusive. Drinks were good, beer was cold.
Staff were accomodating and friendly. They have an area on the main floor that shows what tours/excursions are available as well as someone working there to answer questions. We did not use this service as we researched everything we wanted to do before we went. I honestly don't know if this guy worked on some kind of commission or not, he seemed a quite pushy to the point that I walked away from him mid-sentence.
There are 2 pools at the hotel. One for families, and the beachfront pool is adults only. The adults only pool was mostly gay men. Though the pool was nice it was small. We didn't spend a lot of time at the pool, we spent most of our time in the sun at the Blue/Green Chairs beach which was only about a 5 minute walk down the beach, a little more if you walk on the front street in which case you're going up and down some pretty steep hills. We're both in really good shape so that didn't bother us.
As per normal in Mexico the beds are hard. It's Mexico, that's just the way it is.
The food was hit and miss. Breakfast was always good, fair amount of variety and always fresh fruit. Lunch was sometimes good, sometimes bad. Hamburgers, rice, pasta, the usual middle-of-the-road hotel lunch buffet. Dinner the first night was very good. Every other night we had dinner there is was very bland and seemed to be just different variations of the same dishes . We ate a lot of dinners and lunches in restaurants, which we would have done regardless of where we stayed. We really only wanted the all-inclusive just incase we wanted to drink or eat for free, and for convenience sake, it wasn't the main reason for going AI.

Basic hotel, decent drinks, so-so food, amazing location. If you want a basic hotel with no frills and don't mind eating your meals out, or you don't mind bland buffet food, and you want to be right in the middle of beachfront downtown Puerto Vallarta, San Marino is a good place to stay.

This is a wonderful hotel. The rooms have always been clean and the housekeeping staff do a great job. Luis at the front desk there are not enough words to describe the service he gives to the partons. He bends over backwards to accomodate everyone. Now lets talk about the dining room, the waiters are out of this world under the guidance of a fabulous man, Santos, they are the best you will find in Puerto Vallarta. Very courteous and impeccable service great personalities, I can rave about them enough. It did not matter what meal you went for or even for a drink in the evening, always smiling and ready to serve you. Santos is one special man and treats his guest like they were paying for fine dining, Excellent service, 6 years in a row and I will not stay anywhere else except at the San Marino. The staff are the ones who make this place a real hit!!!! Fun place to enjoy the sun
