“GREAT STAFF - Small, but has something for everyone”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

It was our anniversary and the staff went above and beyond. Ana and Adelina did a fabulous job of making sure we had a blast.
We've stayed at a few Barcelos, and this was by far the smallest. Still, it had something for everyone. The music by the swim up bar was a little too loud, making it hard to find a 'quiet' place certain times of the day. Still, everyone was having a blast.
For an all inclusive, the food is solid. The drink selection is better quality than the competition at a similar price point. 3 ala carte restaurants for supper, buffet or snack bar (which was waiter service and featured ala carte selections) for lunch, and buffet for breakfast. Service is better than other all inclusives.
Rooms are BIG, and nice. Air condition isn't the best, and make sure to leave your key in as it turns off the system if you remove it. Have New York ABC, NBC, CBS affiliates.
We stayed part of our stay in building one, and part in building 2. Building one was less noise as music from poolside bar and 'The Cantina' seemed to travel across pool moreso than up above.

We upgraded to Barceló Premium. I recommend it as it allows you to eat at an ala carte restaurant every night. The lounge is also nice with the computers. The wifi isn't the best, so having access to the computer lounge is nice.

The few cons are: wifi, public restrooms toilets, smaller resort (also a positive)

Once again, THANKS TO THE STAFF! Ana, Adelina, Humberto, David (server), Marco (server), Francisco (server), Hugo, Alejandro, and Teresa.

Room Tip: High floor in building 1. Upgrade to Jr Suite if you want a 2nd bathroom.

I really loved everything about this resort, except the food. Plus you can't order food from the pool. I really enjoyed the fishing village next to it. Go out on the beach and for Romero to take you out snorkeling (his boat is the only blue one.) He will also take you down town and a tour via boat ride.
Make sure you go to Tony's for dinner! SO much better than resort food.

Nice secure location. Private beach for hotel guests only. Costs $30 and 40 minutes to get to the town but it is worth it. Great staff and service. I would not recoment the premium upgrade unless you need the wifi.

Room Tip: Get a room closer to the ground so you dont have to wait on elevators. All rooms are ocean view.

I really enjoyed the service and food of the Capri Restaraunt. I also enjoyed the wine of the manager lindsay recommended to me. It was a very great experience and will definitely go there again. Big smiles and great service, only good things to say. Thanks!

We recently stayed 7 days/night at the Barceló. Once again we were very pleased with the service we received at the hotel. In my opinion, the hotel does great job accommodating both adults and children. The restaurants (especially the Capri) are excellent and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. After dinner, try catching an evening show for some good entertainment.
I strongly recommend upgrading to a Master or Grand Master Suite-the ocean front view is breathtaking and the rooms are beautiful-well worth the upgrade. The grounds are beautiful and the swimming pools are excellent.
When we stay here we always request Rosario H. as our house keeper. Everyday, Rosario makes our room feel clean, fresh and welcoming-she makes you feel like "family." Please remember to tip the employees. A huge part of their livelihood depends on tips from the guests and they work very hard to earn them.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Premium Suite.

This all-inclusive hotel is not in the hotel zone..actually, (almost) on its own beach, Mismaloya...and perfect for a quieter AI type of of vacation. It is also very popular with Mexican clientelle. The rooms are superb (clean, comfortable, good linens/towels, bathrooms, etc.) but are getting "tired" in decor and the fine-tuning/replacement of door/window latches. Yes, they work well, but are well used...no security problems as far as we could see...likewise anywhere on the property. The buffet restaurant had good and varied selections and the 3 a la carte restaurants were well above average. For an all-inclusive resort, a rating of 4 out of 5 is about right. For an up scale, "regular", resort hotel comparison (Four Seasons would be a 5) this resort would be a 3.5. The staff were very well trained and (seemed) happy. Visit the Zoo, close-by...its very good and unexpected in scope and the generally large and wild enclosures for the animals.
Cheers, Richard.

Room Tip: The northerly tower (#2) and floors 5 and up seemed best, especially closer to the beach. The upgrad...

Just returned from a 6 night stay. Family suite that we upgraded to Premium Club. Well worth the price of the upgrade. My adult aged kids enjoyed the premium liquors in the Club Room and we all had fun in the Games Room. The upgrade included a free city tour and a visit to Don Chendo tequila distillery which was fabulous. We found the food in the buffet to be very good and particularly liked Mexican night. Breakfasts were wonderful. Lots of fruit, pastries eggs, Mexican specialties. We had dinner one night at Tony's Hideaway, which is within walking distance, or a short cab ride. So yummy. For the most part I spent my days very happily at poolside with a drink and a book. I cannot say enough positives about the staff. A very hard working group. They went above and beyond to make sure our experience was pleasant. And like others we tipped generously for wonderful service. In particular thanks go to "Ricky Ricardo" at Los Arcos restaurant, the very busy and always friendly bartender at the swim up bar, and Umberto our favorite bellhop. The activities staff and entertainers were great too. Very humid, yet the energy level remained high. The Mexican themed show was awesome. Mariachi band and fabulous dancers. We have been to PV several times, generally staying closer to town. We decided to try Barcelo in order to experience the more tropical feel and we really enjoyed it. But it is a fair distance from downtown PV. Also had a couple of thunderstorms, which we actually enjoyed. Only lasted a brief time and did not interfere with our activities. My only negatives are related to the beach. As others have said, it is small due to erosion. The sand is rough. Must wear flip flops. We had some sand flea bites despite bug repellant, but nothing serious. One "vendor" selling drugs out of his backpack dogged my kids a bit. But all in all a fabulous time. I don't understand the previous reviewer's complaints about the front gate. We called it "good security". Thanks Barcelo!
