Thanks to Mother Nature and three cancelled flights we were gifted with a week in Casa Velas. We were delighted to be stranded in Paradise. The room we had was on the 1st /lobby level. We had 2 Queen beds, a desk and sitting area and a balcony with a hot tub overlooking the golf course. Very nice. Bottled water and full mini fridge were always available. Housekeeping services efficient, flexible and friendly. All the employees were warm and very service oriented. The spa treatments were top notch. The food was always fresh, nicely presented and abundant. The Beach Club divine with easy access from small buses always available for transfer. The weather in Puerto Vallarta is perfect and the town offers wonderful restaurants, shopping and excursions. This is a must-return-to place!

We just returned from a seven day vacation in Puerto Vallarta at Casa Velas and have mixed reviews.

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful and I would not change a thing except for the fact that it is not located on the beach. The grounds are maintained impeccably. A short shuttle ride gets you to the beach in a matter of minutes.

Check in was a bit long do to a few issues regarding a room on the ground floor and the resort tried to charge us again even though we had we had paid in advance. Once that was straightened out everything was fine.

Throughout our stay we ran into service issues. It seemed as though half of the time we were there the resort was under staffed making it difficult to get any drinks and slow service. But then there were other days where we had no issues whatsoever. Seeing as though this is a four and a half star resort there really should not be any issues at all. We were also asked if we would like a newspaper every morning upon check-in and we never did receive a paper any of the days we were there. Included in our trip was a dinner at their sister resort Grand Velas and it was nearly impossible to get a reservation there. Everytime we went to the concierge to reserve a time for dinner we were told that the other resort was booked and there were no times available. You should not offer something to your customers when you are unable to provide it.

Casa Velas has a beautiful outdoor lobby that is perfect for having a drink and relaxing. Unfortunately the bar does not open until 5 p.m every night. So if you are not interested in going to the swim up bar or having a drink in the pool area where there are no chairs just chase loungers you are forced to go to the restaurant where there is also no bar and sit at a table just to have a drink while watching other people dine. There is absolutely no reason why getting a drink at an all inclusive resort should be so difficult. It would not take much for Casa Velas to have their lobby bar open during the day in order to better serve their customers. I did bring this to the attention of management at the front desk and they seemed very disinterested.

Prior to our trip we did read the reviews on Tripadvisor and were really looking forward to the food. Unfortunately we also have mixed reviews on this. There were a few dishes that were absolutely delicious like the shrimp burrito, grilled shrimp and a couple of the soups. Other than that, the food was mediocre at best and sometimes not even that good. Many of the entrees lacked flavor and like the mussels seemed to have been frozen not fresh. The calamari at the Beach Club seemed as though it had been sitting out for hours prior to reaching our table. It was absolutely inedible. All of this was a huge disappointment considering the rave reviews we had read prior to leaving. We ended up eating many of our meals outside of the resort. We really wanted to love the food and everything else about this resort but unfortunately that is not the case.

We did voice our issues to the employees at Casa Velas. This review will not come as a surprise to them. Because we were unhappy with a few things they did offer us a private dinner at their Beach Club prepared by the chef one evening. Although we much appreciated the thought we did not accept. As far as we were concerned, there were many other restaurants we would rather dine at considering we knew how the food was and did not want to take the chance of being disappointed again on our last evening of vacation. In addition to that because it is an all inclusive resort we had already paid for food so we did not see how this really made up for anything in regards to the issues we had while staying at Casa Velas.

Casa Velas is a beautiful resort but by no means deserves four and a half star.

First of all, everyone staff member called me by name by the third day I was there. I shouldn't even have to go on...but I will. I'll try to keep this short. If you are reading this review to try decide where to go in PV, then stop looking and book Casa Velas right now! From the huge rooms,(Grand class plus suite) to the peacocks on the terrace every morning, to the great maid service twice a day, to the genuine interest in where you are going from each of the Bellmen/doormen when you ask for a taxi.(The Bellmen will also talk to the driver for you so the price is set before you get in.) Victoria at Emiliano's was always happy to see us, all the waitstaff were so friendly and professional, attentive, yet non-intrusive. Then there's they lobby bar, where i spent a fair bit of time.(What? I was on vacation...) Benny has worked there for many years, and man, can he run a room. He never stops, and never stops smiling and telling jokes. My drink never hit bottom before there was a refill beside it. And of course there was Daniel, Benny's young protege. His service was also great, and he told me to go to the back of Walmart after 6:00pm to find a whole "Food court" of Taco stands and the like...Daniel also taught me some spanish, and always struck up a conversation. We're now facebook friends...just saying. I really can't say enough about the whole week we were there, it would be a novel. Let's just say, YES, I highly recommend Casa Velas to anyone! If you would like to experience a whole new level of service, just do it!

**One tip that I do have, if you go, is to see the concierge as soon as you can to find out all the special events and dinners taking place while you are there. We had a Steakhouse night, around the pool, a tequila tasting, a wine festival...BUT you need to reserve for each of these events, and space is limited. These events are not advertised very well, so if you find out on the day of, you will be out of luck, as it will be full. See the concierge, and you will experience all that Casa Velas and Emiliano's has to offer...You will be impressed.

Room Tip: We stayed in Ste. 605, with no afternoon sun.(Stes 600-607) Room 302, had afternoon sun.(Rooms 301...

I can't help to rave of this amazing place. I am EXTREMELY particular as to where I stay. To tie a point of reference, we stayed at four season in Maui on our honeymoon so I was sure nothing would ever compete. I stand corrected. The service was in line with a four seasons property. I had low expectations in regards to food after a mediocre trip to the Dominican which was also all inclusive. However, the food was sensational. Every single meal. I also need to mention Daniel. The most wonderful, kind waiter as well as human I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. He works in the patio area at 5pm to 1 am. He is so kind and accommodating and made me smile every night which made my husband smile! He got me Latin dancing and I am not one for peer pressure. He was just that charming and welcoming. I can't say enough. Do yourself a favor and make this your next trip!

Where to begin? All I can say is that spending 7 days at Casa Velas is as close as you can get to a perfect weeklong getaway.
A short ride from the airport (free, pre-arranged transportation through Casa Velas) and we were at the resort. The beautiful grounds and main building were impressive enough, but the elegant lobby and relaxing water features took it to another level. Check-in was very low key, seated on a comfy couch with a cool drink, and damp washcloth to refresh the weary travelers. Luggage was seamlessly transferred from vehicle to our room -- a temporary, one-night stop as our king bed unit was not available until the next day. No problem, though as our short-term home was more than comfortable -- if not for the two double beds instead of king, we would have been more than happy to stay put.
Our permanent accommodation was a gorgeous one bedroom unit in the "villas" -- including a spacious living room, huge bathroom, and private plunge pool just off the patio. The king bed was as comfortable as any we've slept on in more than 40 years of travel together. The mini-bar was restocked daily with complimentary snacks, soft drinks and beer. Our patio was visited daily by the resort's resident peacocks, who seemed to know when we were enjoying breakfast al fresco. A delightful addition to the romantic ambience of our "home."
Everything about Casa Velas is first-rate: the gorgeous pool area (never crowded even though the resort was at full capacity), the wonderful Emiliano's restaurant, the relaxing outdoor lobby bar which lured us to stay past midnight many nights (and we're usually ready to call it a night much earlier at home!), the luxurious, relaxing beach club (with frequent shuttle service) 3 minutes away, and the spa, which Mrs.OJ enjoyed immensely -- using my complimentary massage in addition to hers, and booking another one to boot!
Undoubtedly, the best aspect of Casa Velas is the incredible service. Not only are the facilities everything you could want, the staff surpasses all expectations for pampering the guests. Just about everyone on staff goes above and beyond, but special mention must go to head concierge Denisse, bellman/shuttle driver Joel who lavished us with helpful attention daily, lobby bartender Benny whose tasty libations and small cork animal gifts for our great-grandkids were a highlight, and the room service and Emiliano's waitstaff who always took great care of us.
As an example of the extra special touches provided -- our first night Denisse arranged to have our room "decorated" with dozens of balloons and streamers to greet us when we returned after dinner later that evening. (She was aware that we were celebrating Mrs. OJ's birthday during our stay, along with another friend who was also staying at CV). Denisse also arranged for the birthday girls and spouses to enjoy a special dinner -- 9 courses of classic French cuisine, plus wine and cocktails -- at Piaf restaurant at sister resort Grand Velas. She also made sure we had transportation both ways, and the Piaf manager personally oversaw our dinner service. An evening we will never forget!
In summary, Casa Velas truly is -- as many others have stated in their reviews -- a piece of heaven on earth. Yes, the cost may be a bit more than other AI resorts but for the value received it's more than worth it! Never have we concluded a vacation feeling more relaxed, pampered and happy than after our week at Casa Velas. We plan to return next year with our daughter and son-in-law to celebrate their anniversary.

Room Tip: One-bedroom suites with patio and private plunge pool are definitely worth the extra cost.

Okay, lets start out with the negatives.... its been a hectic winter season and all we want to do is relax..... We are frequent travellers to Mexico but usually fly into the small airport of Manzanillo which is not quite as commercialized as Puerto Vallarta. A 3 a.m. alarm call was the start of our trip and after an 8 hour journey, then lining up for 1 hour for passport control and another 20 minutes for customs, the last thing we expected was to be pounced on by a salesperson trying to make us believe that he was an employee of Casa Velas! He said our taxi would be 10 mins and in that time, he bombarded us with a sales pitch to try and commit to either a free trip, free massage etc, and ALL you had to do was spend a 90 minute session being sold on a vacation club! I don’t know if Casa Velas are aware that these people are making the guest believe they are employees but I believe a hotel of this caliber should not be encouraging this. So, if you are equally averse to this, then make a run for it through the first entry point after customs!

The negative aside, the hotel is only a short drive away and once you approach the imposing gates of Casa Velas, you are faced with the stunning oasis of the hotel and you can't help but gasp! The hotel staff are welcoming, professional and attentive. They take you to the reception area where you are given a glass of delicious hibiscus juice and a washcloth to refresh. Then, a quick, no-nonsense check-in and you are escorted to your room. We had a suite with private plunge pool looking out over the golf course.

Quick change into swimwear and 5 minutes later you venture to the pool area which is absolutely stunning! A staff member immediately appears with a towel and an ice bucket with bottled water and asking if you would like a cocktail.

Dinner that evening was exquisite. As you may see from many of my reviews, we like to eat in nice places and you can count the dining room at Casa Velas in that category. We were on an all inclusive package and the wine selection is quite good as part of that but there is also the opportunity of buying more premium bottles if you prefer.

When you give your room number, they don’t even have to look before they call you by your name. Such attention to detail and they make you feel like you’re the only guest there.

The next morning, we had a delicious breakfast and headed out to play 18 holes of golf on one of 3 golf courses (we had a package that included golf but beware that you are still charged $45 each for a golf cart) The course Marina Vallarta is one of the oldest in PV and the hotel backs right on to it.

After golf, we went on the free shuttle to the private beach club for Casa Velas. Wow! Lunch is “Asian” inspired and the choice excellent. Again, those amazing cocktails…..

The shuttle is on a continuous circuit, so after 2 hours at the beach club, we headed back to the hotel, changed into our tennis gear and headed over to the sister hotel Casa Vallarta to use their courts.

Back to the hotel, my husband went to the and I went for a one a half hour therapeutic massage in their world class beautiful spa. A wonderful relaxing experience and well worth the money.

We liked this hotel so much though and felt there was so much more to experience that we are returning in a couple of days days for another 3 nights!

If you want to treat your significant other or spend some quality time with your mum, your friend or whomever, then I can highly recommend Casa Velas. It’s an experience I recommend to everyone!

Room Tip: A plunge pool room is well worth the additional cost.

We just got back after a week stay and basically like the other reviews stated, Excellent service, especially at the Beach Club when Jorge was on duty. Top notch beverages and food and always a spot with shade on the beach or by the pool. We found the main resort pool to have a more mature crowd and the beach club to be more lively. The resort was somewhat limited with only one restaurant at the resort and the other at the beach but the quality of the food and service did make up for it. We ordered room service for breakfast most days to break things up, which came fast and was excellent. Staff no matter where you might encounter them would smile and greet you usually by name. Daniel and Benny at the Lobby Bar worked tirelessly to keep your glass full and keep you entertained. Good Job Casa Velas!!

Room Tip: Get a Grand Master suite main level on the golf course, Comes with plunge pool,
