“Amazingly Good for the money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2011

My wife and I had the PLEASURE of staying at the Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Club for 23 nights. We went with the all inclusive package through Expedia.ca. WOW! We had a FANTASTIC experience from the first to the very last day. The Food & Beverage Captain, Manuel and his entire staff went above and beyond to make our stay the BEST we have ever had. Head Chef, Enrique Torres, provided some of the BEST food we have EVER had at ANY resort!!! Unlike many other all inclusives, we looked forward to the flavorfull variety of food in our buffet and especially our A la cart dinners. Definitely, 5 star, gourmet meals and service, served pleasantly and efficiently by Rene, Abel and Aldo. It is truly hard to beleive this resort does not have a higher rating.
The entertainment staff, Santiego, Tony and Danya where FANTASTIC with all ages. It took only a couple of days and they made you feel like close personal friends.
The resort was very clean with every detail looked after meticulously and promptly, when needed.
One thing we really enjoyed was, this resort is smaller than some and quieter then most. VERY RELAXING. Of course, if you want, you can get all the partying you can handle in PV, but when you want to rest, your room is nice and quiet.
Every resort I have been to has to have a DOWN SIDE in it, right? The only thing we could find to complain about was the dreadfully slow internet. But you can always pay the extra and get WiFi for your laptop or travel a block and use one of the many internet services nearby.
We will choose this resort for our next trip, for sure!

The staff at Pelicanos are great very easy going and good communication.
The rooms are very clean and everything available upon request if something is missing.
This was my second time at Pelicanos and we were very satisfied with our stay.
The beach is no hell but we are not ocean swimmers.

We visited Pelicanos in Feb and had a wonderful stay. The resort is incredibly clean and the staff is OUTSTANDING. They were helpful in every way possible the entire stay. I lost my camera, and the entire staff worked to find it while I enjoyed my stay. They were always very personable, friendly, and enjoyable to be around. If you are going on vacation to enjoy wonderful food, this is probably not the resort for you. The food options are somewhat limited and not the best, but they are decent and we were never ever hungry. If you make reservations at the nice restaurant, the food and service is GREAT! We had a nice Oriental dinner outside in the candle light. Just make sure you make your reservations early. The drinks are great and the bartenders keep them full!! =) Be aware that the beach is a 3 star beach and its not huge, but its nice yet a little rocky. If you are interested in leaving the resort, the staff are great at helping you know your options (there are tons!) They will try to get you to attend a time share meeting. We just laughed and said no. We were persistent in our "no" and they respected that. We did hear that "Rhythms of the Night" (a sunset cruise to a small island for dinner and show) was incredible. If you are interested in the downtown bar scene, they arrange to take you from the resort and bring you back every night. AND you are welcomed back with a taco bar every night.
Overall we thought this resort was incredible, especially considering the great deal we got. The staff was trustworthy and made the trip even more fun. We felt completely safe and never worried about ourselves or our valuables.

staff were nice, but there were several miscommunications - small things like staff saying the bags will be up 'right away' and then an hour later having to go get them ourselves, no washcloths or foot towel, and being sent up to our 'ready' room to find it being mopped. Over all food was good, pool is beautiful, and grounds are well-maintained. Room is a bit outdated, but that was fine, and it was easy to get d.t. Unfortunately, Vallarta is not what it used to be - it is big and expensive, and people don't want to barter. Also watch out for fakes on the beach! don't get suckered.

Although getting around by bus or taxi is easy, there are 2 Pelicanos hotel, and not only is this a good way to get confused, but our hotel key has the 'other' Pelicanos title (not Grand Beach). As well, the notepaper in the room which I used said Guadalajara Plaza Hotel. These things probably wouldn't bug Mexican tourists but if you don't speak Spanish, the inconsistencies are annoying.

With that said, there were 2 big problems we had with the hotel. I bought a phone card with 1-800 number, but when i tried to dial out, the operator said go to front desk first. The front desk said we needed to prepay 25 pesos per call. I paid for 4, and did use the card 4 times. I was told that if the operator dialed the phone card number and it was busy (before I even dialed my husband), that there was no charge. Well wouldn't you know it, there was a whole bunch of charges on our room the morning we were leaving, and we argued until blue in the face that we prepaid, and that we owe nothing, but with our flight about to leave, did we really have the choice not to pay? They know they have you and the guy at the desk would not budge. Add to that the fact that we were tired, as the night before, the couple in the next room (who we did not know, yet were in a room actually connected to ours via a door) had been yelling and actually hitting each other, and although I called the front desk, they were not kicked out of the hotel and continued to fight until wee hours.

Don't think i'll go back here, and probably not to Vallarta. Even if the flight down is cheap.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for, but we are 20 year timeshare owners in this smaller resort/timeshare. We're in our 60's and really like the low-key atmosphere of PGB (formally Plaza Las Glorias). It's relatively small, so you get to know lots of people of all ages from many diverse home towns. It's fun.. It's clean and the service is responsive as is management. It's not really for the younger hard-partying crowd. They're better off next door at the Pelicanos or Casa del Sol. Food is average, but with such a great selection of eateries in PV, it's not a concern. Breakfast is fresh and hot with lots of diversity. The complaints we hear are more along the line of personal preferences rather than serious situations. You're in Mexico! Adapt and relax. That's what it's all about. Have a great day at the PGB and in PV - if you don't , it's probably as much your fault as anything to do with the resort. If you have a problem, don't complain, talk to them. You'll be suprised at how accomodating they can be. As I said, this is our 20th year!! 'nuff said. We're on our way bach in 2011.

Stayed one week starting January 24, 2011. First few days were OK until 6 buses (500) College Students arrived for a graduation party. They took over the "family" resort. The first night there they returned from the clubs at 3:30 in the morning and continued the party at the resort. We were in a room on the ground floor facing the pool. There were students sleeping and partying on the pool chairs with large coolers and large bottles of booze right outside our patio door. Across the hall there were doors slamming and a young female student cried hysterically for 3 hours. Security arrived at her door and continually talked on their walkie talkies until 7:00 a.m. Then the Police arrived and were in and out of the room for the next three days. Not sure what happened but my 10 year old daughter was very frightened by all of this. We complained to the Manager first thing in the morning as did most of the other guests. He was very rude and told us it would only be for one more night. If my teenage daughter was behaving like them I am sure we would have been asked to the leave the resort. The Manager told me they were paying guests just like we were. The next night (Saturday) the same thing happened all over again. Security removed all of the fire extingishers as the year before when they held this party there they sprayed them all into the pool. Finally the police were called only because one of the guests threatened that if they did not call in the police they would do it themselves. I can't believe a resort would allow that many students there at one time and why would they put them in rooms amoungst the other families? I would think twice about booking this resort in March or April when Springbreak is on. I feel very sorry for the service staff that had to deal with this as they all worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable. This is not a beachfront hotel as advertised. You have to walk to the Grand Section which is two hotels away and then walk down to the beach which is very small and the undertow is very strong so it is not suitable for swimming.

Beautiful resort! They keep this place very clean! Staff was very nice and helpful! Entertainment staff was great, Antonio your the man! Night life wasn't great at the resort but that makes it a great place for rest and relaxation, and if you want night life there are plenty of clubs in Puerto Vallarta! I have to say Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful place, I will definitely be going back. i don't really have any complaints about Plaza Pelicanos, it is beautiful, clean and the food was great!
