Viejo Vallarta, surprisingly good Italian in Plaza Romy. Pizza pomodoro red sauce, basil, and mozz with sliced cherry tomatoes. Light and delicate. Pappadelle with Porcini. It’s the small, but just the right amount portion you find in Italy not the disgusting huge portion you find in the US. Enjoyed it a lot. Not crowded, a bit off the beaten path, but worth your visit and support. 300 pesos with one glass of wine.

Dined alone, an early dinner around five. My meal here had several misses: spotty service from the wait staff, a med. salad in which the arugula could have used a thorough rinse before being dressed with onions tomatoes oil and vinegar, a carbonara with a tad much spice for a dish that the cheese and egg should stand out and not the spice. To be fair it was served el dente and piping hot - homemade noodles. That said, a pasta aficionado knows that it is in the making of the pasta and not the sauce that is key to a great dish. This dish had neither. Quality boxed imported Italian pasta made with semonila (Diavelli brand for instance) is infinitely better that what is being produced as fresh in Vallarta. The one glass of a Sangiovesse (red) that I order was steep in price and served ice cold devoid of aroma or taste. It might as well have been served as ice cubes. And while I don't usually provide a price for meals I review this time I will: $300 MXP includes tip.
