Hacienda Las Animas
Ranked #28 of 71 Puerto Vallarta B&B and Inns

Want a place that is away from the tourist crowd and hubbub of the city? Don't tell anyone but, Ted and Brischa are the perfect hosts to make this happen. I really want to keep this B&B a secret because once you experience this unique place located in the hills above old Puerto Vallarta, you might take my next year's reservation! Your host meets you at the airport and escorts you to Colonia Buenas Aires. Climbing up a steep cobble stoned street, you find their B&B right in the midst of an old Mexican village. As you proceed up the two flights of stairs, you are met by several friendly dogs and cats. (All rescued from certain death on the streets). There you find a beautiful pool where breakfast can be enjoyed every morning. Speak about breakfasts….. Ted begins each morning by squeezing fresh orange juice. He and Brischa then create some of the best plates from the local ingredients you ever laid a tooth on! If he asks you what your wishes are, tell him to use his own imagination and then be prepared for some great treats each morning. Wake up each morning to the sound of doves cooing, roosters crowing and the local street vender yelling 'pan' or 'pan dulce',( bread or sweet bread). Get acquainted with Whitey (cat) or Oden (dog). After breakfast, lay around the pool or walk to old town P.V. (about a 20 minute trek or 30 minutes to the beach). Ted will call a cab if you don't need the exercise (about 50 pesos or $4 USD). Want a guide to see the big city(?) or even venture out into the country to an old silver mining town or even a coffee plantation? Ask Ted, He can arrange it. Any way, we will return!

Room Tip: One room looks out onto the village and the ocean

Fantastic views await the patient traveller who ventures up the steep slopes to visit Hacienda Las Animals. The hosts, Ted and Brisha are welcoming and kind and clearly love what they do - making people feel at home in their home. The sound of doves cooing sooth the soul as the eyes feast on the horizon from the edge of the infinity pool. This is a place where families and couples can relax and enjoy Mexico at its best. Not for your all-inclusive types as this is Mexico as it really is. Will go again and again. Safe and comfortable.

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing...you can't go wrong.

It was our first time flying in to Puerta Vallarta, and we only had a little time there before taking the water taxi for a stay in Yelapa. The hosts of Hacienda Las Animas made this short leg of our trip so easy--Ted picked us up at the airport (he patiently waited well into the evening while we made it through customs) and whisked us past the Vegas-feeling American hotels and gave a quick driving mini tour of Old Town, then up into the hills on cobblestone streets where we entered an authentic Mexico neighborhood. We arrived and were greeted with cold beer and fresh guacamole at a charming small bar bedecked in festive lights beside a sparkling pool with lush tropical plants. Brischa and Ted have built a stunning and comfortable hacienda that you would swear is an historic structure. Our room was clean and spacious, and breakfast was perfect. Hacienda Las Animas has a quiet, low key vibe and you get the perfect mix of privacy and hospitality. Brischa kindly delivered us herself to the pier where we would hop on the water taxi to go down the coast. When we added up all the great service they delivered to us in such a short time, it was an unbelievable value. The Hacienda Las Animas experience was like a pleasant dream, and we hope to repeat it soon when we can stay a little longer.

This place is wonderful! The house is beautiful and well kept, you are just far enough away from town to not feel like just another tourist, but close enough to walk (about 20 mins) and then get a taxi back after all your adventures. We cannot say enough good things about Ted and Brischa, these people have found their calling in life and are living their dream, graciously sharing it with their fortunate visitors. They welcome you like friends, and you will leave feeling like old friends. It is a fantastic deal, to be picked up from the airport and be served amazing breakfasts every day at the prices they are offering. If you are looking at this and on the fence...just book it. You won't regret it!

Room Tip: Loved the bathroom with Las Animas room.

Thank you Brischa and Ted for making our stay the best. Like everyone is saying they make you feel at home and they are very helpful with whatever you need. The house is beautiful and knowing that Brischa designed it herself makes it even more spectacular. The rooms are large and comfortable and the common areas make you feel like home. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone who wants the real experience.
