Forever we have been walking by this Marina Restaurant on our way to one of our favorite restaurants 2 doors south. We have always talked about stopping in and yesterday they offered free Margaritas and Guacamole with the meal so we tried it. Good lesson learned on “FREE”.
The “FREE” Margarita was one of the smallest we have ever gotten in Mexico. So we did not even bother ordering a 2nd. Then it was mainly ice and margarita mix and hopefully they did add some tequila even if I did not detect any. The “FREE” Guacamole was prepared at the table and was GREAT. The young man that prepared it was also nice. Too bad that was the highlight of the meal. We had Red Snapper that was good, but of a small portion. I had their daily special of Mai-Mai with shrimp. It was served in a bowl??? The portion was barely average, but the Mai-Mai was cook excellent yet was bland without flavor. The shrimp were over cooked and were rubbery and had no flavor. When we got the bill they had added in a 19% tip - 58+ Pesos. I have never in our worldwide travel had someone add in tip for two people. I have had restaurants show 15%, 18% and 20% tips on the bill, but NEVER had it added in for a group of two. I usually tip $2 bills which are good luck in Mexico so they actually got fewer tips than they would have been tipped by me, but adding it in must be their way to pad the bill to cover the free margaritas and guacamole. That padding and the food quality may explain why there were only 2 tables with people in the restaurant when the Marina was teaming with 100s of people there for the Farmer’s Market on Thursday night – the poor food quality, small margaritas and then them padding their bill to top off the evening.
