The Canto Del Sol was a fun place to stay and they had done some renovations to the bathroom in particular the bath tubs which were removed and new ceramic tile shower stalls were put in. The hallways also looked like newer floor tiles were installed. The beds of course were a little harder but on a whole they were very clean and the Maids were very efficient and friendly. There was a 40 inch TV in the room also. We were overlooking the pool area and also had a view of the Ocean. The Kids had a room with a balcony looking straight out at the ocean. Gorgeous view. If you want quiet I would get something like the kids had ( room 394) as on our side there was also the bar which stayed open till midnight and you could routinely hear some party revellers till two or three in the morning. There were poolside activities every day starting with aerobics at 10 am and then beach volleyball at 11am and water volleyball and polo (in the pool) and fun blackjack poolside for prizes. I won a bottle of tequila. There was music poolside all day and it wasn’t at all over powering as you could carry on a conversation with no problem. At night they had a stage which had an evening show at 8pm each evening with a different show. It started out a little lame but picked up towards the middle of the vacation. The views were beautiful and by the ocean there were the regular Mexican vendors but not really annoying. The staff was absolutely fantastic. Alec was the M.C poolside along with Saul (pronounced Sa-uul) and they were just amazing. Very patient, polite and always willing to help and give you whatever information or directions that they could to help you out. The poolside staff, especially Jorge who was our poolside waiter and was always there with a marguerite, cervesa, pina cola or whatever you wanted from a selection of maybe 20-25 drinks!!!! The bartenders, all, were courteous and very prompt on your drinks. There was a buffet setup and there was a large selection of food to choose from. A portion of it was repetitive but not to the point where you wanted to leave and go and eat out somewhere else. Always a fresh selection of fruit. Specialty omelettes cooked for you the way you like for breakfast and specialty pasta for supper. Near the ocean there was a cabana where you could be served breakfast over looking the ocean. During the day this was a snack bar with French fries, hamburgers, nachos, tortillas and all the fixings’ and drinks. The food here was also good for a fast snack. With our stay we had two specialty restaurants included in our week stay. One was Italian, which was across the street at the Sister resort. I think it was called Verraza and it was nice and acceptable. My wife had the Mahi-mahi and was not feeling to well after! My kids and I had the pasta, pork and chicken and it was good. The other was a Fine Mexican right in the Resort and it was very good. Waiters were fantastic and very friendly and the food was very good. We tipped at both restaurants but it was not mandatory and nothing was posted or mentioned to guilt trip you into tipping. Front desk staff was unbelievable as were the bellboys and the rest. There were time share people on site but they were not bothersome. There were some absolutely beautiful clay and hard surface tennis courts. I am not a tennis player but for those who are this would be a great spot. The resort has a board for you to post for matches. Also on site was a workout facility. Although my workouts were limited to lifting drinks I accompanied my son there and it does have enough equipment to do a full workout. There also was an activity center for kids on site. We had older kids so can’t comment here. The yellow cabs out front of the resort will take you downtown for 50 pesos and to the marina where most of the cruises by boat leave from.
We went whale watching which was accidently booked by the onsite agent. We were to go snorkelling but schedules changed and she was unaware of the change. There were lots of whales but my teenage kids were very bored. Paula Charboneau was our Transat rep and she refunded our money no problem. We then booked Las Caletas for $85.00 per person which takes you to John Huston’s former residence and is accessible only by boat. This was absolutely the most fun trip. The boat ride took 1 ½ hours and you arrive at paradise. We went on the 11:30am cruise and as soon as we arrived we were greeted by a Woman in traditional garb with a huge snake. They took pictures and later you could purchase them if you wanted. We then had lunch. Ribs, chicken, veggies and lots of other food and fruit which was very good. Again there was an endless supply of drinks here and on the boat. We then went snorkelling and saw loads of fish. Sat around on the beach, kayaking, a nature walk to the jungle and if you pre booked scuba diving. The staff was unbelievable here. Emilio was our host on the boat and he was totally entertaining. He had a dance contest with the children and then he dressed in a pink wig and fake breast and he and another staffer did Olivia Newton John’s Saturday night fever. It was hilarious!!!
My only complaint was we could smell cigarette smoke every morning. Next door there was a smoker and on checkout they asked how our stay was. We informed them of the smoke smell and they told us we should have gone to guest services and they would have addressed the problem.
In a nutshell I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Canto Del Sol at all. Yes it’s not the Sheraton but I’m not a Sheraton type person! This was a resort that gave you the real look and feel of Mexico and the guests were friendly and we met a lot of other people no problem. All in all a fantastic vacation.

Just before Christmas, my wife and I returned from 7 days at the Canto del Sol. We found it to be an excellent place from beginning to end.

The room was large, well-equipped and well-cleaned every day with bottled water supplied. The kitchen was fully equipped and, although we didn't use it to cook, it allowed us to make our own tea and coffee whenever we needed. The safe worked well and was useful.

The beach and pool areas are well tended and well-staffed. There were quite a few kids around but they seemed to be taken care of (including the resorts own Kids Club).

Food was plentiful and generally excellent. The staff in the three restaurants we tried were capable and very friendly. The staff throoughout the hotel -- reception, guest services, bellhops etc -- were all helpful and courteous.

The Canto del Sol is just a few minutes walk from a MEGA supermarket (very useful) and just a stroll away from a pharmacy, a convenience store, several non-resort restaurants, and more than one Internet cafe. It also just a few minutes cab ride to downtown.

We are used to five star hotels and cruises, but we had a wonderful time at this resort and will certainly return.

Puerto Vallarta; Canto Del Sol All inclusive Resort
Date: Dec 19, 2008
We returned from our 1 week all inclusive vacation on Dec.14, 2008.The beach and service was good.I got food poisoning for 36 hours and the cock roaches in our room were as big as my feet.
We had booked a smoking room with a king sized bed and were given a non smoking room with 2 double beds and a 2 foot wide balcony with a view of a garbage littered roof.We were eventually moved to a time share room on the ground floor that wasn't even made up when they moved us.
To top it all off we found out from our cerdit card company of some suspicious activity on our card that was locked in the room safe for the whole trip.It seems that a hotel employee was coming into our room and opening the safe and stole the card and charged up over $2000.00 worth of car rentals and a trip for themselves. They then returned the card when we were out but had the # and tried to get another $3000.00 worth of stuff. They even tried to come into our room when we were in it but our presence scared them off. We contacted the hotel about all this but they were not forthcoming with an apology or reimbursement.
This was the worst trip we've ever taken and I don't reccomend this resort.

I went with my 2 friends (we are all girls). We switched to 'Canto Del Sol' after a horrible 1st night at another aweful hotel. The staff at Canto Del Sol were FANTASTIC. The resort was beautiful and the food was great. Each night was a different nationality of food (in the buffet restaurant). It was awesome. The rooms were VERY clean and the air-conditioner only took 5 minutes to cool down the entire room. The maid service was great and we never had any issues leaving our things in our room without being locked. The A La Carte restaurants were okay, when we ate there, we would go to the buffet restaurant after too (the food at the buffet restaurant was better). The bar tenders were great and we had a lot of fun with them. The pool was amazing and there weren't a lot of kids splashing around. The entertainment in the evening was great :) MARTIN (the bell boy) was fantastic and he made sure we were never without anything we needed. All the staff was fantastic. I felt safe leaving the resort to go shopping as well. We never had any issues with the locals. Everyone there loves Canadians :) :) The ocean was good. You cant see the ocean floor at all, but the beach is well maintained. I also liked it because it wasnt a "PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!" kind for resort. We are all 23, and we found that we were probably one of the yourgest groups there. It was great. I will absolutely stay here again! :)

We just got back from our trip Dec 6, on a red eye uhgg!!
But we absolutley adored this resort! The staff were great! The grounds were beautiful and clean.
I've stayed at several 5 stars including one in PV and this was better then most and comparable to the others!!
The location was great for a us. Being 5 minutes to downtown was perfect. Jan 2008 we stayed in Nuevo Vallarta and the location was frustrating to say the least. We were at 20-40 minutes away from anything besides other resorts. The Canto even has a great little market in the front lot for all your typical souviener crap! :)
The only complaint was that there was no food or drink after midnight! Which really didnt bother us because we were either downtown at a club or passed out from heat exhaustion from a day in the sun.
The food was okay... not the greatest but better then the Rui's! What is with Mexican desserts. They all look great but taste.... I cant even say they taste badly... because they have not taste!
You have to have the mexican hot chocolate in the morning its amazing!
The nighly shows were awesome! The entertainment staff were great! The costumes were fantastic!
Oh, and not once did we get harassed by the timeshare people at the hotel!
We loved this hotel! Its not the newest or the fanciest! But its a great value!!!

We booked an all-inclusive family vacation back in January of this year and we're not sure what to expect for the price we paid. We were extremely pleased with this resort from the moment we arrived...so much so that we are heading back in a few weeks time for Christmas.

the location: excellent, whether you wanted to stay close to the resort or venture out
the reception and checkin: excellent
the rooms: more than we expected, and well cleaned daily
the pool has an area for everyone...and it's clean!
the food and drink were great for an all-inclusive
also note: we realized that this is the perfect resort to bring my step-brother to...it is wheel chair accessable everywhere and he is looking forward to his first puerto vallarta vacation

The service was second to none! The staff wonderful, accomodating and fun! (I read another review here mentioning tipping your servers...and I can't agree more with that reviewer...people who don't tip are disappointing - the staff work hard for you - take care of them! The better you take of them the better they take care of you!) Pack some extra money - tips are not part of the all-inclusve package!

Looking forward to returning in a few weeks!

We have just returned from another week at the Canto del Sol in P.V., we were just there in March of 2008 and returned again this month for much of the same. We really feel comfortable at this hotel, it is a central location to almost everything in P.V. The staff are great, check in and check out were exceptional. Room was good, clean and comfortable. Food was very good, we were however alittle disappointed in the fact that the beach cafe was not operating for breakfast. We ate out there every morning on our March trip and enjoyed the ocean view and the wales. There is talk it will re-open for breakfast. Played alot of beach volleyball and water polo, which the pool staff organized, it was great. Bar staff both pool and indoor great , kept you humoured and your glass always full. Jorge once again at the pool, kept on running and could keep 10 tables order always right.
