I was hesitant to travel to P.V. due to a past unpleasant visit (NOT at Canto del Sol)...and I have to say I wish I had gone back much sooner!
The hotel is VERY comfortable and VERY clean. The room was just fine, comfy beds, clean linens every day (towels changed even twice/day if needed). I had heard many complaints about the construction noise...and chose not to let that get in the way of the experience (didn't spend time in my room except to sleep). What upset me far more were the partiers who had no concern for others when returning from their jaunts in the middle of the night (3am)...and continued their party in their room!
The food was good - ample to choose from, always available whether in the main eating area, the pool shack or room service (no charge for that beauty!).
The staff: I wish I could bottle up some of their constant willingness to accomodate your every need - always with a contagious smile! Jorge, Fernando, Carmen, Joshue, Miguel, Martin, Ramirez, Luis...you are gems and thank you:)
The beach and the pool: I enjoyed both, preferred the beach simply because the pool was occupied by too many whose main goal was to get completely sloshed and stupid! Fortunately, the ever-eager staff did their very best to clean up the messes and point out some basic rules of conduct in a family-friendly resort. The beach was quieter and I enjoyed meeting the vendors (Ernesto, Jose', Rosa and Pas among many) and had wonderful chats with people from all over!
I really enjoyed my two week vacation, and I attribute most of it to the friendly people I've met as well as a comfortable, safe, clean hotel to call home while there.
I wouldn't think twice about returning. I can't choose whose vacationing there at the same time, however all that's important to me when choosing a destination hotel, Canto del Sol has in abbundance!

The hotel was nice for a four star. The food was excellent and the rooms were standard. We had a room facing the tennis court and the construction but if you are up early enough, there is no problem. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The VIP club sellers were very pushy but overall the staff was great. The activities team kept us busy during the day, there was lots to do despite the beach being red flagged every day. Joshua and Saul made it fun for the adults with volleyball, water polo, crazy games, cards and several other activities. The night shows were about an hour long and very entertaining with a different hteme every night.

The Vacation in this hotel has been enjoyable, minor issues quickly solved.
The hotel has a fine group oft staff on all level..
Flight was excellent and the Abbotsford departure and arrival very convenient.
One major problem in the resort that the smokers spoils the much bigger numbers of nonsmokers enjoyment in the pool ground area.
The hotel should have larger area posted for Non smokers paying attention for the ocean breeze.
Many people discussed the issue but the smokers spoils and spoils everywhere the otherwise pleasant pool grounds.
Fortunately the rooms suppose to be non smokers but we noticed the smoke infiltration pending who where your immediate neighbours sideways or below you
By our taste the food is above average.
Pool good heated the so called music some occasion overly loud, had to use earplug if you don't it will hurt your ears.
Room on the north wing looks refurbishes not long ago.
No water problem.
Beach mater of circumstances, high tides no beach, but we enjoyed the south part of the 800 step walk but a bit rocky

Overall this hotel is ok. Nothing spectacular, nothing awful. Food was average mexican 3.5 star all inclusive. Not quite four star, but you could find something tasty in the buffet for dinner. Good omelets for breakfast. Nice snack bar with good burgers and fries and tacos and pizza. The ala cartes got very mixed reviews some loved the italian some disliked it. Most disliked the mexican. I went to the grill twice. Had a great prime rib the first night, a passable new york the second. Drinks were very good. An unusual number of premium brands for this level of all inclusive. Rooms were ok. Some trouble getting a good one. The first one had no balconey. The second was nice and had a great balconey, but faced a concrete wall and the construction of the new hotel going in next door. The third sort of faced the pool, overlooked the roof of the buffet and had a french balconey. I just went with it by then. The beach is not very good. Very small area roped off from t he rest of the beach. The beach was rocky with a troublesome undertow and difficult to swim in. Nine palapas to sit under for the whole resort. Everyone was desperate for shade so people uninvited tucked under your palapa. Understandable under the circumstances. The small beach area had multiple vendors right in front where they sat and stood all day. The weren't too pushy, but basically blocked your view of the ocean. By the pool rows and rows of loungers with no shade. Many reserved early and unavailable by 11 am. The hotel is centrally located and close to lots of restaurants and bars. But I had the all inclusive package and did not want to spend more money on food and drinks. Tennis is big at this resort and some pick it for that reason. I enjoy working out sometimes on vacation and t he gym had an acceptable variety of free weights, but no functioning cardio machines. Golds gym is across the street and they charge 350 pesos for a week membership. Many people love this hotel and come back yearly. It was ok, but for me a very average hotel with a dismal beachfront. I would say it deserves 3-3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings about recommending it. If you don't care about beach and are looking for a centrally located hotel with average food and good service this hotel would be acceptable. If you are looking for a beach vacation I couldn't recommend it.

In short; would do it again.

3.5* suits this resort well. It is not very luxurious, but it feels up to date. The garden layout creates a very good ambiance, although that there is nothing that really stands out.

It was windy and Pacific water was kind of cold. We were not able to swim in the sea. The weather was great everyday.

The food was very good. Employees were helpful and dedicated all the time. Specially the ambulant barman.... this guy was busy! The resort was extremely clean too.

The 6 tennis courts are unique and a great asset.

I was able to connect wi-fi from the room.

In the things to improve;
- not enough English TV channels
- there should be some kind of damping devices for the doors.... you hear them slamming all the time, but with the A/C at ON, it was somehow mitigated. Not enough of a problem to disturb our sleep but annoying.
- the pool main animator can be too noisy for too long; there is not many places to hide under the sun. Fortunately it didn't happen everyday.

I was worrying about the resort not being as close to downtown as some others, but with the excellent bus system (0.60$ a ride almost anywhere), it was a non-issue. We walked *a lot* in the city that was a great experience.

Second time to Puerto Vallarta this year. Had not stayed here before but were meeting up with 15 relatives and friends from B.C. When first arrived we were given a room right next to the construction. Noisy and very dark. We asked to be moved and the next day they were as good as there word. Moved to a room overlooking the pool and ocean on second floor. Just great. Food was good and no one went home a few pounds lighter. The steakhouse is a must try restuarant. The prime rib is great and service was as well. If you want to go on excursions and not pay for them then go and listen to the time share pitch for 90 minutes and you will be surprised at what they will give you. All in all a great stay and Puerto Vallarta is an amazing place for a holiday. Second time this year and I am thinking of going back again for a week in April with my sister. This time I might try the Tropicana. It is only a 2.5 star hotel but once again the price is great and all the reviews are as well.

We stayed at this resort for 10 days. We cannot say enough about the friendliness and accomodating people. It seems as if they could read our requests from our face.

One problem though that diminishes the hard work of the employees.
Between 12 and 4 PM the music was awful and eardrum busting so was the person running the pool games. You could not converse with your partner or neighbor during that time.
