My husband and I stayed at Rivera del Rio recently and had a wonderful stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted with delicious guacamole and margaritas. We enjoyed a peaceful evening on our balcony overlooking Rio Cuale before hitting the rooftop spa and pool. I would definitely recommend this luxurious boutique hotel. Just great!

Rivera del Rio is absolutely fantastic. My fiancé and I stayed there for a weekend looking for a relaxing change of pace. We sure got it. The staff was exceptional. The ambiance, perfect. The view from the hot tub on the roof, breath taking. If you are looking for a nice boutique hotel that is out of the fray of all the night life in Vallarta, Rivera del Rio is the place for you. We certainly will be back.

I have been going down to Vallarta for several years now. Living in Chicago it is a welcome retreat esp. in Jan-Feb. I have stayed at Rivera del Rio several times off and on over the years and as a result have grown close to Alex. This place is great for all travelers in general and all can expect to be made to feel welcome and comfortable. It is esp great for the solo traveler. You can be there solo and have very private areas but have a common breakfast and pool area and you feel like you are there where you can meet people and mingle. I've remained friends on social media with several nice people I've met there. This place would also make an amazing event space for an event or small wedding party. You better bet if I ever get married this will be the place. Also, with Alex's staff and his resources and knowledge of the area he could have or hook you up with any vendor or anything you need. Don't let the location fool or detour you. It can appear to be off the beaten path if you aren't familiar with the area or are just looking at a map. It's actually in a great spot because it's near the river walk if you go down then to the right or if you go down then to the left your at all the bars and restaurants. There is a few coconut vendors just down the street and I go over there every morning to rehydrate and start my day for about a dollar:) Vallarta is extremely safe I walk home late from the bars all the time and feel much more comfortable doing that then I ever would in Chicago the street that runs by the river to take you up to Rivera del Rio can seem a bit dim and unsafe but trust me it's not I've walked it many times very late at night. Also you can be over there for less then 5 bucks in a cab from pretty much anywhere you want to be. The beach is also less then ten minutes also. Whatever you want or need Alex or his partner will help you with it. If you want a unique stay with great service esp if it's your first time in Vallarta then I cannot recommend this place more. Trust me you will enjoy it. The pool and hot tub are beautiful and the sunset at night from the hot tub is amazing. You can't go wrong.

Just got back a few weeks ago and am still dreaming about this place, literally! The hotel was charming, beautiful and very comfortable! I chose the Scarlet room and it was perfect! I pulled all the beautiful drapes back so the room was filled with natural light but very lush and romantic with the drapes and beautiful balcony and view. Alex and everyone there were so kind, thoughtful, enjoyable and excellent at making you feel welcome and comfortable. As other reviewers said, the mattresses were heaven. I also sat on a few in other rooms that were not occupied to check them out. It was an easy walk to the beach either by the river or thru the interesting streets. I was there as a single woman and felt very comfortable and safe walking home in the evening. I really like being able to go enjoy the beach and the busyness there and then come back to my little oasis. The pool was such a lovely respite that a few of my days I didnt even leave the hotel till sunset and dinner. This hotel is in a neighborhood which made it all the more enchanting because I go to Mexico for the whole package of what Mexico is, not just the beach, etc, so you have sounds, smells, vibrancy, that are part of wonderful Mexican experience here. The food was wonderful as were the lovely lovely ladies that prepared it for you. Also, each room has state of the art individual ac/heat units that are basically silent and can change the temperature very rapidly for you. Could go on and on but I would definitely recommend this place if you want comfort and beauty and more of an adventure. Enjoy!!!

Room Tip: The best rooms for brightness and lots of natural light were the Penthouse and the Scarlet. All the...

We had a tour last week of Rivera del Rio. It is just amazing! Every room has it's own eclectic decoration and color scheme. Lots of nooks and crannies and little hallways as well as a secret door to walk through. Everywhere we turned was something new to see. Open in the middle with a vaulted ceiling, chandeliers, white railings with staircases up the inside (outside wall) of the building. Rooftop pool and jacuzzi with a VIEW, all in a secluded space marked by four Greek columns. Several spiral staircases and private entrances to the rooms. My very favorite was the Alejandro Suite located at rooftop. It even had an outside elevator that came up to the back terrace overlooking the Cuale River. This room was magnificent with huge patio doors that opened up to give a cross breeze. All the rooms have their special feel. The owner is very nice and he let us walk around to explore. It is definitely a place to stay and also a place to hold a gathering. Besides booking out each room, you can book the whole thing and have lots of fun exploring and gathering with friends. A very special place indeed, adults only.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very colorful and eclectic. So hard to choose! But my very favorite is the Alejand...
