“A Perfect Vacation Spot to Share With Your Children & Grandchildren”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2009

It took almost a year to plan this vacation with our very patient travel agents Richard and Amy at Travelventures in Miami,Florida, and looking back after being home for two weeks, we know we made the right decision. Most importantly are the staff that work tirelessly to do whatever they can to make a vacation extra special. Carlos at the front desk is an amazing manager, always working with a smile on his face and so willing to help with anything you might need. Geraldine at the front desk is caring and hardworking during her regular business hours and then did some babysitting for my grandchildren a few nights so we could have dinner without the babies. Her dedication and ability with children gave us the confidence to enjoy our dinner without worrying at all. Our grandchildren looked for her during the day and wanted to know when she would play with them again. Another Carlos is the manager of all the restaurants and room service. He has a very high pressured and difficult job and I don't think he took time off for the 9 days we were there. He organizes and makes sure that the food is interesting and delicious, and his staff of waiters throughout all the restaurants are helpful and ready to serve and add a special element to our vacation, We wanted for nothing. One night we had a special celebration at the Italian restaurant, Portifino. Carlos made this so special for the 10 of us that we felt like his extended family. Special thanks for all the waiters and beach waiters for always serving with a smile, even after our grandchildren left lots of food on the floor! A few nights we enjoyed the special shows that were given around the pool or in the ballroom. The Mexican Fiesta night was fabulous and was full of fun, music, good food and lots of great items to purchase. The energy of that night just added to our vacation. The hotel rooms are very spacious and comfortable as a beach resort should be. Nothing is fancy or stuffy and everything feels like what it is, a wonderful beach resort . The houskeeping staff is always available and takes such good care of the rooms without every being intrusive. We loved the little chocolates that were left in our room before evening, and never saw who put them there. I must mention the Childrens Explorer camp that is available. Our grandchildren chose to join in on some of the activites and are still talking about the Baby Turtle release that happens each night at 7pm, if there are turtles born that day. What a wonderful part of nature for them to experience on this vacation and something they are able to share with their friends in school when they get back. I cannot say enough good things about our experience and hope to go back to Dreams in the near future.

My husband & I were married at Dreams PV two years ago, and returned this year for our anniversary. The resort is still breathtaking, the rooms sublime and the customer service outstanding.

Once again, all meals were excellent. We've been lucky on both trips to enjoy perfect, balmy weather. The private beach is beautiful, and definitely the jewel in this resort's crown.

We will return, as soon as possible.

This is my second trip to Dreams Puerto Vallarta and it was as great as the first. I can't imagine the need to go anywhere else! Our room was clean, brightly colorful and as long as the curtains are closed to the afternoon sun, nicely chilled - no need to upgrade! The food and choices are excellent, the drinks strong & made from top shelf brands, and the entertainment "entertaining". We particularly liked the Manager's Fire Show, the Circus and the Mexican Fiesta - what talent! I've never experienced a more friendly and helpful staff, top to bottom. The Entertainment Team, obviously chosen for their charm and outgoing personalities are excellent!
My favorite thing of all is the setting of the resort. It is so private - none of that lined up building after building feel. Between the mountains, the sea, the iguanas and the baby turtle release, it really is a natural paradise! I can't wait to return!

Let me start by saying we had a fantastic experience at Dreams Puerto Vallarta!

My wife and I stayed for 6 days in the Dreams tower which met all of our needs. The room was very clean and well stocked. During our trip we met another couple staying in the preferred tower and we had the chance to visit their room and if you are given the chance, the upgrade is worth the price, in fact I regret not doing so. The accommodations and appointments in the preferred tower are simply luxurious from the shower to the Jacuzzi tub on the balcony.

The food at all the restaurants was very good. I was disappointed that much of the food was "Americanized" and not enough local choices were available. We had a chance to visit each restaurant during our stay and this is how I would rank them for dinner:

1. Seaside Grill (dinner is simply amazing! Great fish)
2. Portofino Restaurant (elegant Mediterranean food)
3. Oceana
4. El Patio

The entertainment crew did a great job keeping guests well entertained during our stay. Although we did not have a chance to participate in all events those that we did were great. I loved the rock climbing wall, sea kayaks, tequila tasting and the best show; Fire dancing!

Overall one of the best vacations my wife and I have enjoyed. The staff was great and always helpful, great job guys!

The service at this hotel could not have been any better. Esp the drink service around the adult pool. Jose and his waiter kept your glass full constantly while laying in loungers or in the pool. The room (jacuzzi junior suite) was beautiful and had everything you needed. The AC could have been a little colder but was adequate. I would definately pay extra for the preferred tower.

I would rate the food above average. For me Oceano was the best. The El Patio was my least favorite. The 24 room service was nice and food good. Food portions are not american size. Potatoe skins consist of 2 and wings get you just 4. So order accordingly.

The 2 reasturants that are not open air are a little warm so just ask for a tower fan and it is fine. We were there end of August and it was very humid but you just kept in the pool and it was great. Location was nice with just a 5 minute cab to downtown. I would go back to a Dreams resort.

My husand and I just returned from a week vacation to Dreams Puerto Vallarta. This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta. We have stayed at Dreams resorts in Cancun and surrounding areas and have always been happy. Our trip to Puerto Vallarta was no exception. We had a great time. The biggest reasons we like Dreams resorts - there are no reservations required for any of the restaurants and you are not required to wear those silly bracelets all week. Also, they have great food, service and entertainment. The biggest piece of advice we can give you is to PAY THE EXTRA MONEY FOR A ROOM UPGRADE TO THE PREFERRED CLUB TOWER. We normally will book a standard room and ask for an upgrade when we get there. We are extremely happy that we went ahead and paid the extra money (I think it was only a couple hundred dollars for the entire week) for a room in the Preferred Club tower. The room was absolutely gorgeous! We booked the standard junior suite and were really happy. We tried to get an upgrade to a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony when we got there but they were completely booked up. We were told that the Preferred Club tower is pretty much always booked up. We still had a two person bathtub in the bathroom so we were really happy. The one advantage to booking a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony is you will have a room on a higher floor. We ended up on the 4th floor and had a great view however, I would not have wanted to be on a lower floor. When you book a room in the Preferred Club tower you get a few extras that are only available for guests staying in this tower - breakfast and drinks in the tower along with a private beach area, pool and lobby. It was definitely first class accomodations. We went into the older tower and were able to see one of the rooms there. They weren't horrible but they were very standard rooms. They were definitely nothing special. The rooms were small with a very small bathroom. Also, most of the rooms don't have a real balcony. They have a sliding glass door with an area (maybe a foot deep) that you can stand on but you are essentially still in the room. It was like you were at a totally different resort when you went into the older tower - it felt outdated. We really enjoyed the tennis courts - they are up on the 4th floor which is a hike but really nice once you get up there. The beach is really beautiful and very private. The turtle release was a lot of fun. There are some vendors but they are not pushy at all. The rock climbing wall was really unique. It is a lot harder than it looks! We noticed that on clear days the heat and humidity seems to be a lot more unbearable than Cancun. It doesn't seem like Puerta Vallarta gets much in the way of breezes. We stayed in the water most of the time to stay cool. Another thing that we are not used to is bug bites. We were wishing that we would have taken some bug spray with us. It wasn't out of control but it did make the trip a little uncomfortable at times. We visited the spa one day for the couples massage. The massages were good but the spa area itself was small and it could use a face lift. You can get the couple massage inside or outside. We decided to have it inside. I thought we would be in the same room but we were in seperate rooms with a doorway that ajoined the two rooms that was kept open. It was a wonderful trip. We will definitely return to this hotel if we decide to visit Puerto Vallarta again in the future.

Resort - The resort is nicely laid out and very open and outdoors oriented. Since you're nestled in the side of a mountain it feels like you are part of the jungle. I'm sure you can tell that it's not the newest property in the area, but, it doesn't matter because it is well maintained. There are massive cliffs on either side of the beach that make the landscape quite interesting. Everyone there was very nice especially in the Preferred tower, more on that later.

Food - Wow - great food! we stayed in a sister resort a few years ago, SECRETS in Mayan Riveria, and we blown away by the food there. You could describe us as "Foodies". We completely avoid chain restaurants, my wife is a creative cook so we dine at home most nights. When we go out we prefer highly rated "Chef Driven" restaurants. The food at Dreams (except for the buffet and mexican restaurant) are top notch. Oceana and Seaside grill were both fantastic. Sadly Oceana was closed 3 of the 6 days we were there but the food was so good at Seaside that we didn't miss it. Breakfast at Oceana was the best but it was only open for breakfast once. One night the only restaurant open was Patio, the mexican place. It was absolutely terrible. It must have been amateur night for the staff, the food was pedestrian at best and a huge disappointment. If you find yourself at this resort with only patio to choose from, go to town and eat, don't make the mistake we made!

Pool - We stayed at the adult pool the whole time. Theres only 15-20 chairs so we were out there placing our towels at 9 every morning. On one occasion we considered going to the other pool b/c of the pool bar, but we had just gotten so comfortable at the small pool, it was hard to leave. Also the view of the beach and cliffs is unobstructed from the adult pool. One of the days I noticed the pool needed cleaning and the next it was back to perfect. The pool waiter was very good/attentive as was the bartender. I tipped $1 for every drink, another guest said she tipped the bartender $10 at the beginning of every day.

Rooms and Preferred - Every room is ocean front, so you're guaranteed a beautiful view no matter where you stay. We checked in and got a regular deluxe room in the Dreams tower. When we walked into the room we were shocked at how old and tired the room was. The walls were painted 2 colors and were reminiscent of a gym locker room. There was a mini fridge sitting on the floor. Our room had sliding doors that opened, but no balcony. No pictures on the wall. They had these weird shells hanging from the ceiling but they were the extent of the decoration in this place. Yuck! Think Myrtle Beach, Panama City, or insert sleezy beach town near you - and think about the EconoLodge or an old Holiday Inn.
Quick story - After reckoning that we got an amazing deal on the room, and convincing ourselves that we were going to be out at the pool/beach most of the time we started to be OK with this (besides, the guy at the front practically swore that there were no other rooms in the Preferred tower - why would he lie). We started exploring the resort and ran into some very nice people - Brendan who introduced us to 'The Mayor'. We told them we were in the 'other' tower and they were shocked. The Mayor had been to PV Dreams 4 times, she was staying in a suite, etc and loved this resort. They wouldn't have us stay there, no way. She escorted us to the concierge and told them we were best friends and needed an upgrade. We also explained that we were iprefer members AND that it was our Anniversary, AND that we had stayed in their sister resort for our honeymoon. Voila! we were in - and WOW what a difference. Our room was "Ritz Carlton Quality" one of the pictures I attached is from the bed looking out on to our huge patio. Whatever you have to do, whether it's pay more money or beg like we did, get in the preferred tower.
