I bought a timeshare when it was part of the Westin, every other year, 30 yrs. This was back in the late 90's. I really like the fact that the one bedroom has two bathrooms because the living room can sleep 4 and they would have their own bathroom in that area. The kitchen is a full kitchen. There is a dining area, nice size living room and the separate bedroom with its own bathroom. The fees were reasonable. Since the renovation they have doubled, that is my only complaint. The area is beautiful, the staff is great. If you want to rent my place, let me know. I have another one next door. I LOVE PUERTO VALLARTA!

Room Tip: Always ask for a room facing the pool or beach on a high floor.

The Raintree Vacation Club, Regina (pronounced ‘Regeena’) is a solidly built and very colourful resort right on the beach, backing on to the Marina. We had a one bedroom unit on floor 10, there are 14 floors. The units are very well appointed with plenty of storage space. Full kitchen, 2 burner hob, combi microwave oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The kitchen/lounge/dining room area is separate to the bedroom/main bathroom, each area has its own door and flat screen TV. 92 channels (about 4 in English including CNN) and copious sports channels. Safes in both rooms which they want you to use. We got a polite pre printed note left on my camera case pointing out that they are not responsible for valuables and please use the safe. We did not feel completely reassured by the note – don’t they trust their staff?

We found all of the staff were very helpful, especially at the Customer Services desk.

Free WiFi is available, but only in the Lobby area.

The resort is on the beach and has two great swimming pools. There were always plenty of sunbeds (but this was before the start of the busy season). The resort shares facilities with the Westin hotel next door. Apparently originally was all one complex but now there is a fence dividing the pool areas – which is a bit peculiar. The lower swimming pool is served by a swim up snack bar which has a good range of items. Happy hour – 4 to 5 – was very popular. There is also a separate restaurant and bar. We found the restaurant choices a bit limited but good quality.

Shopping.
There a small supermarket just outside the resort (a branch of OXXO) but there are others that are easy to reach. From the upper floors of the resort you can actually see Walmart across the Marina. Local buses are fine. 6.50 pesos per trip any length. The ride can be a bit rough due to the cobbled streets and speed bumps – sit at the front of the bus for a better ride! The stop for Walmart is the junction past the bull ring and Vallarta shopping mall. Taxi back to resort is 60 Peso. There is also a large supermarket, Commercial Mexicana, in the Plaza Marina. Take the bus to the entrance to the Marina area – the hump back whale statue, and walk left for about 5 minutes. The supermarket is at the end of the shops. There are also other shopping opportunities. The LANS complex at Cinemark contains a very large air conditioned shopping mall, a huge supermarket and even a C&A ! The Vallarta shopping mall next to Walmart is a very large air conditioned shopping and entertainment complex.
For more ‘traditional’ shops, one place to start is the Malecon, the promenade that fronts the old town. Get off the bus at the boy on the seahorse statue. You can find all the T shirts, hats, tequila, and souvenirs along the front and in the alley ways behind the front shops.

The Malecon contains a lot of interesting and sometimes weird statues.

The Marina is a few minutes walk away from the resort and has a good range of dining options as well as mini supermarkets, boat hire and massage establishments.

Taxi costs are listed on a board in the Lobby. Prices are very reasonable and are based on zones. You are advised to check the cost before getting in the cab.

The only downside was the timeshares and tour touts. You cannot visit any area without being bounced upon by someone (male and female) who wants you attend a presentation, in return you are promised varying amounts of money. Or they are pushing tours – adventure, diving, dolphin swims etc. We realise these people have to make a living but unfortunately a simple ‘No Thank You’ does not get rid of them. Often we had to get uncharacteristically rude in order to get away.
This is unfortunate because the people are really friendly and welcoming, but in the end you suspect everyone has a hidden agenda.

Nevertheless we would not let this deter us from making a return visit. Temperatures were high – 30 to 32 degrees with quite high levels of humidity. Next time we will make it later into November or more into the peek season, Jan and Feb, when the humidity drops.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor with ocean view.

This was our first stay in Puerto Vallarta so can't make a direct comparison with anywhere else in town, but I don't think I would've been any happier elsewhere. We had a 2-bedroom/3 bathroom suite. The rooms were large and well equipped (fridge, dishwasher, safes, plenty of closet space), and all had a gorgeous sunset ocean view. There were hot tubs on the balcony which we used as cold tubs instead since it was so hot and humid.

One of the highlights of my stay was joining in the various activities that took place next to the main pool. From bingo to aqua-aerobics, Manuel was running all of the activities with a smile on his face and so much enthusiasm, it was contagious! Hopefully he will get some help during the busy season, since he seemed to be run off his feet sometimes, but he always kept up the good attitude!

All of the staff we dealt with were very friendly, had really good English skills, and were more than happy to help out with whatever we asked them for. Anytime we passed any of the staff in the hallways, they gave us right of way and said hello. Very refreshing!

My main complaint was the noise from the gardening staff early in the morning. I realize that it takes a lot of effort to keep the grounds looking immaculate, but it doesn't allow for a relaxing sleep-in. I would also like it if the pools were open later. There are no onsite activities at night and it would be nice to have adult-only time in the pool.

I would definitely stay at Club Regina again - can't wait!!

Just back from another great week at Club Regina. The staff is so great and we loved Manuel and all the great pool activities. He is so good with the kids. The grounds are immaculate. We had a room on the 9th floor with a great view. The bathroom had been updated with a large walk-in shower and there was a new couch in the living room. It was a perfect week.

Room Tip: This is the first time we were above the palm trees and the view was wonderful. Ask for 7th floor o...

Club Regina is a wonderful place to stay. Check in was painless and we were blessed with Sofia as a concierge, she helped us in many ways with restaurant reservations and avoiding those that were closed for the season. After we said no, there was no time share pressure cooker sales offers. The rooms are very comfortable and remind you of an older Mexican charm. The grounds are manicured daily and are beautiful. All of the support personnel are friendly with pleasant greetings. Their service makes for a very relaxing vacation.

My wife & were the guests of our friend who has timeshare ownership so we tagged along for one of his two weeks. You have to watch the timing of your vacation because September is part of PTO Vallarta's rainy season... so we hit a thunderstorm for the first 2 days & worried it may be liked this for the remainder of the vacation. Luckily we got a break & the sun shine was good, good enough to burn us... we miscalculated the amount of sunshine behind light cloud.
The facilities are a bit old & tired but the staff are more than accommodating. Example: We're at the pool side activity center signing up for things to do & the coordinator asks if there was anything that could be done with our room. The dishwasher was not mounted correctly because a screw fell out & we could use more hand soap... simple enough. We finish our activities a few hours later and... yes, the washer is repaired and there's soap too. We even sat through their sales presentation... no pressure, "thanks for coming, here's your meal certificates." Very pleasant. The fitness center unfortunately is part of the hotel next door & the air conditioning was broken. It's all good, you lose more weight in the heat of the gym.
The Club's location can't be beat too because it is next to the Marina. Lots of restaurants and shops... although some were closed for the slow season.

We recently stayed at Club Regina, for the most part everything went well, we had issues with the scheduled pickup at the airport and we found dirty clothes in our room! Room was dated and needed minor repair. The service at the Club was exceptional. Victor was very helpful on setting up tours and Gabrellia always had some type of activity going at the pool.

The largest problem was the time share hawks at the airport! I was getting ready to get back on the airplane! They need to establish some type of control or completely remove them! After traveling a long distance, being tired and trying to get established at a new location , you do not need the harrasment!
