My partner and I have been coming here now for a few years and we could not be more pleased with our choice. Casa Cupula is simply lovely and the key to its success for sure is the absolute dedication and attentiveness of the staff. The property is beautiful and so carefully maintained. One feels the love the staff have for the property in the way in which they attend to every little detail. Kudos to Mario and the maintenance team for answering every call with a smile. Thanks to the housekeeping team for keeping the entire hotel spotless. Special thanks to the front desk staff and restaurant staff for taking care of every need at a moment's notice. If you are going to Vallarta, gay or straight, this place should be on your list of accommodations. If you opt to stay elsewhere, please consider a night at Taste where the outstanding Chef Cesar and his amazing wait staff will be there to please your palate.

Room Tip: All the rooms are near perfection. We love the Penthouse Suite in particular as it has a private poo...

First trip to Puerto Vallarta, stayed here because of the TripAdvisor reviews and recommendation from a friend. great place! wonderful views, our room was large, had its own patio with lounge chairs and table and chairs, access to hotel pool and balcony. everyone was nice from the restaurant to check-in/reception. would definitely stay again.

We returned from PV last week where we had another incredible vacation. And Casa Cupula was again a huge part of what made it such a great trip. From check-in to check-out, you have no worries at all. Where to have happy hour in town is the most difficult decision you will have to make. Breakfast at Taste each morning continues to be a great experience, thanks to the great food, but mainly thanks to the friendly and always cheerful personalities of Pancho and Juan. They were great with service around the pool during the day, as well. I love the fact that a bell has been installed so you can call for food/drink service poolside now. Great touch.

At the front desk, Logan, Edwin, Jesus, Boris and Tina were all wonderful, each helping us out at different times. I really enjoy just stopping to chat with them at times, and to enjoy the cool breeze that often flows through the lobby area. There are also Lola, Bella and the new puppy Conchita to greet you each day.

Also, I cannot fail to mention Mario in maintenance. We felt like the dipping pool on our terrace (Sayuri Suite) was too warm one afternoon when we had some friends over. Mario was able to cool the water down perfectly by draining some of the hot water and adding fresh, cool water to bring the temp down. And he did it all with a smile. There are really no requests that I have ever made of any staff at this hotel that weren't met with a smile.

I would also like to mention the much improved wi-fi service available all over the hotel. It worked beautifully whether in our suite or out by the pool.

So thanks to everyone at Casa Cupula for another fantastic vacation experience. See you in November!

Room Tip: The Sayuri Suite in the Residences tower is a fantastic room with one of the largest showers you'...

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Casa Cupula.

This was a trip we wanted to take for a long time and had greatly anticipated; largely due to the great reviews here.

The property lives up to its hype in terms of being a welcoming gay and straight friendly oasis where everyone is welcome (although its not an "anything goes" sort of place). As PV Pride was about to kick off, it was quite full, male and female couples, a few singles, a nice mix of mostly friendly people.

I will write a separate review for Taste but a special note is due at this point to the charming and attentive waiters, Pancho and Juan, who really took care of us at breakfast and during the poolside service hours. Very good food.

The pool is on the small side but we liked the ambience very much. The grounds are lovely and well kept. The gym is well equipped, immaculate and ice cold (very important, more on this later).

So, I would give the overall property a 5 star rating for the environment it provides and the service (most of) the staff gave us.

However, the other side of this was our room. I booked a suite and we were given the "Cupula Suite". It was extremely hot when we checked in but I assumed the AC would cool the unit down. It never did. The temperature in the room went down around 2 am to ice cold in the bedroom (when it cooled down outside) but that didn't last and for about 20 hours a day the suite was excessively warm. The "jacuzzi tub for two" didn't work at all (no hot water on the first day) and after 45 minutes of pouring water, it failed to go above 4 inches in depth so I gave up. There were other issues but suffice to say that I would suggest avoiding room 301 at all costs. It nearly ruined our vacation staying in this suite.

We made friends with a couple who moved into the room after we left and they emailed us about the heat as well.

Apparently this suite is about to be gutted so its on its last legs but that is not the sort of accommodation I am used to or expect at a property of this caliber. I paid for an upgraded suite and this was certainly a downgrade.

My honest advice is: do stay here, just be very specific that you want a recently renovated room and don't stay in 301. Kudos to Jesus for doing his best to fix the problem but it was never resolved.

We plan on returning but only when we can get a room that has been recently updated.

Apparently there are many upgrades in the works.

Also, if you want an upscale beach day, go to the Mantamar beach club, its amazing.

Another distinct plus is the cost; with generous tipping it was 1/2 the price of Hawaii.

5 stars for the overall property and 1 star for the room makes it a 3 star property which hopefully will be 5 on my next review.

Room Tip: Get a recently updated room and do not stay in the "Cupula" suite (#301) until it has been...

Hm, that's strange. The guest emailed us during his stays four days before this review was posted to say that he figured out the AC, everything is fine and we are delighted to be staying here! We asked!

Sometimes people don't know how to work the mini-split air conditioners with the remote controls that are common here, and sometimes they freeze up from excessive use. In either case, the author himself claimed it was a problem with figuring out the A/C, so the bad review surprised us.

Especially since the one before it was for the same suite and was five stars!

Nevertheless, the guest is correct in saying that we are planning a renovation for this suite this summer and next year it will be two spanking new Vista rooms. However "last legs" might be a big melodramatic.

I had never been to Mexico before, and I loved every single thing about Casa Cupula.

1. The Room: It was a duplex, with the bedroom up an interior stair case from the living room, great view of the pool

2. The Amenities: The kitchen was fully stocked with glasses, flatware and silverware. The air conditioning was worked great, as did the TV and stereo. If you are as concerned as I was about the safety of the water, or the ice, or the fruits and veg, don't be. We had no problems, whatsoever.

3. The Setting: Nestled among the trees, yet a surprisingly quick walk to the beach. You may see two iguanas sunning themselves while you have breakfast.

4. The Food: Best guacamole in PV, and we did exhaustive research. Try the hibiscus margarita.

5. The Staff: Super Special Shout Outs to Logan, Edwin, Jesus, and Pancho who made our trip as special as it was memorable. Each was more friendly, kind, and generous than the last. They were always in a great mood, and eager to help. They provide the kind of experience that separates them from the rest. They were all polite, charming, and full of fun. They even helped us throw a RuPaul's Drag Race Viewing Party in our room. They all went above and beyond, and we are truly appreciative and grateful. Great job everybody!

Had our second stay at Casa Cupula last week. Each time, I have gone with my husband and a group of friends. Facilities are terrific. Location is great -- close enough to walk to town and the beach, but far enough away to be quiet. Staff could not be more helpful. We splurged on a suite this time and it was worth it -- although the regular rooms are also very nice.

Thank you for your kind words.

Over 2/3 of our guests are either returning guests or referrals. We think that's by far the best advertising, and that's why we work so hard to make everyone as happy as possible.

This summer Casa Cupula will be investing even more in property improvements. We are always improving so return guests have something new each visit.
