I was familiar with this hotel, having spent time in the colonia where it's located and had recommended it to others. Wasn't planning on staying there until October but in August, I suddenly had to leave the condo I'd rented for a month and went to this hotel for 10 nights.
Couldn't have been better. Staff was friendly and efficient. They bent over backwards for me, ordering cabs and sending people to my room to fix the stovetop, helping with the wireless in the lobby, translation, etc.
Room was a small junior suite on the 3rd floor with a king bed and a panoramic view of the colonia and bay, off a small balcony. A/C and elevator. Kitchenette with 2-burner stove top, coffee maker, toaster, mini-fridge. No microwave. Decent closet/storage space for two people.
The hotel has a small pool on the floor below mine. Never used it -- some days it was packed with kids and families. They also have two restaurants on site.
I was there during a period of time that Mexican tour groups were coming through (there were buses outside many mornings, loading up luggage and groups) and Mexican families vacation. It was a wonderful opportunity to practice my Spanish and be in a colonia where gringo/a/s are few and far between.
Some of the benefits of staying in this hotel in this colonia are that Calle Honduras and nearby are packed with taco stands and there are a number of comida corridas in the area also. It is a diverse and robust neighborhood that is as authentic as can be found in Puerto Vallarta. Yet, even with the family and evening activity on the streets ---- people eating at the stands until late hours --- the hotel itself is fairly quiet as Calles Brasil and Honduras do not have much vehicle traffic.
It's on a slight hill but it was do-able for me, with my bad knees, even with slippery, wet cobblestones following some huge rainstorms. The bus going North is readily available on Columbia and Peru. Bus going South is readily available on Avenida Mexico, 3 blocks West. Interesting to note that the bus to Las Palmas leaves from the corner of Brasil and Honduras, for anyone wanting to go to Las Palmas.
Can't wait to get back to this hidden gem. It's a budget hotel but if you don't expect a fancy resort, it has much to offer.
