Spent a week at this hotel. Clean and very friendly staff. The restaurant food was great, a little pricey, but worth it. Everything is close. We walked a lot to town, the beach and the wonderful bakery. The river boat ride was a lot of fun seeing the different wildlife. This non-commercialized area was relaxing and definitely worth it. There were a few days bugs were a problem, just used bug spray.

Room Tip: We stayed in a junior suite. It had a great view of the river and was very spacious.

Checked in this morning after about 2 hour drive north from Vallarta. Relaxing in AC. This is probably the best hotel in San Blas, where most if not all others seen when driving around today seemed rather funky. We have clean, comfortable, large 2 room suite with 2 Queen beds. Not elegant and certainly worn but at higher end of small town local color accommodations and more than adequate. Friendly staff, nice pool & kids' pool, PET FRIENDLY, grassy lawns, flowers, a small chapel. Gift shop. Highly rated restaurant which we are about to try this evening. Separate bungalows are located behind the attractive main courtyard. Heavy wooden doors lead from courtyard to each 2 room suite which offer small sitting area, then bedroom and bath. Children could run around safely - entire property is walked or fenced. (we don't have any but mentioned to be helpful).

We stayed here but one night, but returned for other occasions. This is a wonderful hotel a bit distant from the downtown area of San Blas, but such a gem that it ought not to be ignored. The premises are enclosed, the rooms clean and sufficiently spacious. All staff we encountered we pleasant, and the desk staff are most helpful. The pool was comfortable, and the enclosed restaurant served fine food with gracious staff.

Room Tip: There are separate room, suites, and individual houses. all are quiet as the nearby street is seldom...

A friend and I spent a week at this hotel while on a bird watching trip in the San Blas area. The hotel caters to birders, offering help in obtaining a guide (if needed) and providing information regarding boat trips through the mangroves. The room was alright (undoubtedly the best hotel in San Blas) and the attached restaurant had excellent meals (the food was super - first class). I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone staying in San Blas. We had some friends who arrived from Guadalajara for a couple of nights while we were there (primarily just for a vacation - sunning on the beach, etc.) with two childern and the hotel worked fine for them. A great hotel for a plain vacation or a bird watching adventure.

we enjoyed a four day stay at hotel garza canela during holy week. the atmosphere was very relaxing, something we hadn't experienced in some months. the attention from the vazquez family was excellent as always. wakening to swaying palm trees, tropical flowers and a deliciously prepared breakfast was a treat for all of us.

Room Tip: san blas does have mosquitoes, all year round, so take repellent,

From the moment we were greeted by the first smiling face, we felt so welcomed. The Vazquez family really showed what warm, friendly service is all about and they treated us like they had known us for years. The well manicured grounds include palm trees, a spice garden, and beautiful flowers that are greeted daily by hungry hummingbirds. The food at their on site restaurant, El Delfin, was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend staying there. San Blas has a lot to offer for a small Riviera Nayarit town - boat trips through the mangroves to see an abundance of birds (and crocodiles too), a visit to the Fort of San Blas, and beautiful beaches.

We did an overnight road trip to San Blas last week - about a 2.5 hour drive from Bucerias, outside of Puerto Vallarta. We went with another couple and planned to see the town and do the river "jungle tour" by boat the next day. I did a little TripAdvisor research and saw the "best" hotel in San Blas was the recommended Hotel Garza Blanca, and the "best" restaurant, El Delfin, is at that hotel. I called and asked if hotel reservations were recommended for this 50 room property and they said arrive before 3:00 pm and it should be fine.

I'm glad I printed off a rudimentary map of the town, or we would have had a hard time finding the place. Overall, it's a nice Mexican property - it would be a 3 star in Canada though. They had 2 rooms left with king size beds by 1:30 pm, and we grabbed one, the top floor (3rd fl) Aticama "junior suite" for 1,360 pesos, and our pals got the other king bed room for 960 pesos.

Apart from the bed (typically hard) and night stands, there was a flat screen TV/cabinet, a console side table, 2 upright chairs and a small table. No where to lounge/read or even have a visitor apart from this. Didn't seem right as the room was enormous and could have held a sofa, coffee table and armchair. The bathroom was very nice - high end looking tile and glass. I would be very familiar with it before the night was over.

Our friends' unit was near the pool, 1st floor and had a twin bed in the main sitting area where the furniture was the typical cement blocks with some cushions - not comfortable.

Both units were very clean and the place seems well maintained.

We toured around San Blas "el centro" which was undergoing major dusty road construction. We managed to completely miss finding the beach strip, surfing and beachfront bars/restaurants as it is all in the opposite direction from the one we took into town. Dumb of us.

We planned to dine at the hotel's El Delfin restaurant...I never made it as I got hit with a major bacterial infection of my GI tract (from something I would have ingested in the previous 12-24 hours) and spent the evening getting very well acquainted with the toilet and tile floor in our suite. My four companions dined at El Delfin and rated it 3 out of 5. The decor could use some updating for sure (I only made it that far).

They said the food was very overpriced for what it was. I heard they had a little devilled egg amuse bouche to start, my husband was very disappointed in the 160 pesos seafood soup, the cream of tomato soup with shrimp was ordinary/uninspired, and the chicken breast stuffed with shrimp came in a red sauce that reminded our pal of Chinese sweet and sour sauce. It tasted okay, but was quite an unexpected combo.

The hotel does have a lovely and large gift shop with a wide range of items - including quite nice tropical/vacation clothing (I bought a top made in Peru).

One other observation, the cushions on the lounge chairs by the pool have got to go...they look okay but are lumpy, hard sacks.

They aren't kidding about the bugs in San Blas - we had loads of bug sprayy and still got eaten.

Personnally, I would never go back to San Blas and didn't see much to recommend it. We walked past some of the other accommodations available and feel the Hotel Garza Canela IS the best choice, IF you have to go to San Blas and stay overnight. But think HARD about whether you really, really have to.

Finally, I can't comment on the river boat jungle tours as I had to get back to Bucerias to a doctor asap the next day.
