I agree with the other reviewers. The view and ambiance at La Cala is beyond compare. The waves crashing in the grotto below your table with the sounds of the rocks makes for a very romantic evening. I would recommend going before the sun sets so you can watch the waiters scamper out onto the rocks to light the torches and see the warm sunset glow spread over the bay.

Now as far as the food, the drinks were so-so. the appetizers were quite good (tuna tartare), the entrees average at best. Average $100 per meal US. I would go back again and have cocktail and app just to experience the scenery. I do also recall feeling the waiter to be a tad bit 'cold'. (The fact that he did not speak much English if any had no bearing, not his fault, Remember we are the ones traveling in a Spanish speaking country!)

My husband and I had a wondeful dinner at La Cala on our last night in Zihuat. Romantic setting, good food and the waiters were very attentive and informative, as to what food they recommended. We will return again next year for that special night our.

We were very anxious to try La Cala but were VERY DISAPPOINTED! Waiter was rude and knew very little English, drinks were watered down, food was served cold, pasta was chewy (think old leather shoe) and it had bits of sand in it. Basically way over priced horrible food and service, we couldn't wait to get out of there!

Like others, we had read about the wonderful romantic atmosphere of La Cala, and in that respect we were not disappointed. The crashing waves on the shore at our table in the torch lit cove was amazing and very mood setting. Our disappointment was with the very average tasting food that came with our great view. It was by far the most expensive meal we at in Zih all week, but left us quite disappointed in taste and quantity. While we took a taxi to get to La Cala, we walked back to our hotel (Irma) after we ate. While cutting though downtown on the way back, we stopped and got a much more tasty meal. Tacos de Pastor , 5 for $25 (pesos, about $2 US).

We heard about the atmosphere at La Cala and decide to go. We were not disappointed. The quiet little cove with the waves crashing and torches lit was amazing. Our appetizers were really good. We had mahi mahi ceviche and a spinach salad with prosciutto. Our entrees were average (Sweet and Spicy Shrimp and Mahi Mahi w/ peanut chipolte sauce). We were a little disappointed being that it was our most expensive meal of the week. That being said, we did not regret our decision to go. Perhaps next time we will have appetizers and deserts.
