Treetops Bungalows
Reviewed 25 May 2014

We just got back from seven days at Treetops. The reviews are spot on and the pace is everything I expected and more!!! We booked the penthouse for our stay. It was very clean and very nice for a bungalow on the beach. Jeffery and Maggie were awsome host. Always there when you needed something.

When we arrived the grounds were spotless and every inch of the beach and sand were freshly raked and beautiful.

We ate out in town different places while we were there and decided Maggie is the best chef in town. We wish we would have eaten at the Treetops with her more. The menu looks run of the mill, but when it is served you are in for a treat. The pancakes were served with stacked sliced bananas and strawbery's, oatmeal with fresh and dried fruit. Chicken fajita tacos in home made corn tortillas. The list goes on and on.

We are fishermen and went fishing three days. Maggie even cooked up our fresh catch for us one evening three different ways so we could try it all!!!!!

If there is one minor draw back, it is in the flight path of the airport and you will have some infrequent noise from the plane. This place is so tranquil and peaceful it will be noticed but not annoying.

The afternoon spent in the infinity pool was a nice break from the heat. The beach is beautiful and very light soft sand.

We will be back just not in May which is the hottest month.

Thank you guys so much!

Toby and Tammy

Just returned from Ixtapa Zihuantanejo. We stayed at Treetops Bungalows. What an amazing experience. Our host Jeffery, his wife Maggy and staff were truly great. If you are looking to relax and get away from the rat race this is the place to do it. Jeffery provided us with a driver named Edwardo who took us where ever we needed to go. He was not only professional and inexpensive, but he became a friend as well. The facilities at Treetops are excellent. We had 20 miles of beach almost to ourselves and the food was excellent, something for everyone. Jeffery arranged anything we wanted from horseback riding on the beach with Playa Larga ranch (excellent experience Balentine and his son are fantastic guides and truly nice people), turtle release, snorkelling, and swimming with dolphins. One of the best experiences was just learning to relax and enjoying the soothing heat and nice ocean breeze from the patio of the penthouse. The kids had a great time in the pool, as did we all. I could go on for pages but I think you get the idea. Thank you again to Jeffery, Maggie and staff. I did not want to leave and can hardly wait to return.

Room Tip: The penthouse is right front and centre on the beach. Loved it. The other bungalow's looked grea...

If you want just a quiet retreat on the beach that is plane and simple, this place is great. We went to town once. We told Maggie we were both vegan and she prepared the best food you would find anywhere and that alone was worth the trip!

This is like sleeping on the beach and the bungalows are open so if you want no sound of the ocean and party time, this is not the place to go.

To say I was unsure of what to expect is pretty accurate!! Our trip to Treetops was wonderful!! Jeffrey and Maggy are amazing and do all they can to make your stay special(and the puppies are pretty great too)!!! The bungalows are adorable and the Penthouse is wonderful. No air was a concern, but it didn't matter after we got there. Days in 90's and nights in the 70's. After the super cruddy weather in Tennessee, I am so ready to go back!!! Thanks for a great trip!!!

The perfect spot. This trip was a compromise for us between my desire for solo travel in isolated regions of Honduras and Mardie's desire for something more civilized but definitely NOT of the all-inclusive genre. Treetops hit the perfect balance.

Jeffery and Magali are charming hosts and my chats with Magali helped my Spanish enormously. I also have a weakness for rescue dogs and was charmed by the eclectic selection here! I think it was the first time I've met a Chihuahua that I really liked.

We enjoyed eating at their beach bar/restaurant, as well as a delicious simple meal at the restaurant next door, run by an equally charming and hospitable Mexican family.

If you want peace, quiet, and sand between your toes all day this is the place.

Room Tip: We took cabin #1 as it has a bar fridge.

Jeff and Maggie strike the right balance between being always around and available when you need anything (a drink, Maggie's delicious guacamole, advice about which Playa Blanca beach restaurant to try) and blending in to the chill background vibe at Treetops so that you can truly relax and feel both isolated and at home. Highlights are Maggie's tiritas (the local ceviche of fish strips), the beach fire pit (ask Jeff to build an evening fire right after sunset), the sunset, walking way up the beach, and hanging out with Jeff and Maggie. Jeff has great stories about being an expat in Mexico, and Maggie is warm, energetic, and helpful with local food. My girlfriend and and I stayed for two nights before moving on to Las Azucenas on Playa La Ropa and Casa Cuitlateca high on the hill between Playa Madera and La Ropa. It was our first trip to Zihua, so we wanted to explore a few different locations and styles. Treetops was certainly the most memorable. It is the only place that offered a real getaway from crowds and schedules. Meals are served whenever you want them, it is quiet at night and in the morning, and the beach is practically empty (and deserted at night, perfect for checking out the bio-luminescence of the ocean, which is much brighter than the bay). If you are coming to Zihuatanejo it would be a big mistake to miss this place. Even if you are the type of traveler who loves opulent luxury, you should add a few days at Treetops to your itinerary before heading to the cushy resorts.

My girlfriend and I stayed in bungalow #1 for three nights over Christmas, and our friends stayed at one of the other bungalows. We could not have picked a better place!

Jeffrey and Magali welcomed us and made us feel at home in every way. One day, while out shopping for food at the local supermarket, we called them to see if we needed to pick up wood for the campfire. When we got back, the fire was already going on the beach and all we had to do was crack open a beer. The next day, our hosts got the coals ready on the grill so we could make carne asada for our tacos.

Whether you prefer swimming with dolphins in the ocean or taking a dip in the pool under the palm trees, at Treetops Bungalows relaxation is guaranteed. The cabins are charming and rustic -- a far cry from the large, soulless hotels of Ixtapa. (Be sure to sleep under the bed net, to avoid the hungry mosquitoes. Bug spray and long sleeves/pants are recommended.) The long secluded beaches only minutes from downtown Zihuatanejo make you feel like you are many miles away.

Thank you for making us feel welcome and creating a wonderful, relaxing experience!
