“LOVELY, CHARMING GEM OF A HOTEL”
Reviewed 28 April 2013

La Quinta de Don Andres is such a delightful place to stay - our favorite in Zihua! We have been there with friends, children, and grandchildren several times but hadn't been back since the remodel in 2010. We enjoyed it before - we absolutely love it now. Our impressions after staying there in early/mid April of 2013 are as follows:
FACILITIES: The rooms, grounds, swimming pool area, and restaurant are spotlessly clean and well maintained. The owner, Perla Gomez, appeared to me to personally inspect on a daily basis the placement of chaise lounges, pool cleanliness, condition of landscaping plants, and all the details that go into having a first-rate boutique hotel. Our two-bedroom suite was well equipped, with everything that we needed in the kitchen for fixing light breakfasts, fruit plates, guacamole and chips, etc. We could have cooked more, but with so many good restaurants nearby - and when on vacation???
RESTAURANT: Speaking of places to eat, the in-house restaurant was a delightful surprise, and we ended up having a number of dinners there. Managed by Perla's daughter, Alex Ornelas, the restaurant has a mediterranean-influenced menu with some sinfully delicious dishes and appetizers. Alex has a Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts from the University of Toronto and pays the same attention to detail with her restaurant as her mother does with the hotel. Prices are moderate and, considering the quality of the cuisine, may be the best dining value in Zihua.
STAFF: The personnel that work at this hotel are one of the bonuses of staying there. Gustavo Alvarez (reservations), Perla and Alex, Sergio (waiter), Luis (chef), housekeeping, etc. were uniformly friendly and helpful with any advice and questions that we had, and they made us feel so welcome.
We have traveled to a number of places in Mexico, and at this time La Quinta de Don Andres and Zihuatanejo are at the top of our list of vacation destinations - we WILL be back!

This property has a great view of the Bay and village of Zihuat. Their restaurant has some imaginative choices as well. My veal pasta with lobster sauce was first rate and delicious but they have a long way to go if they want to have a first rate restaurant. A restaurant with these prices should not use the small "cocktail napkin" size. The salt shaker should actually have salt in it. The pepper grinder should not have the screw on the top missing. A wine list with choices up to $90.00 should tell you what vintage and brand of wine. I ordered a salad with shrimp, waited until my wife had finished hers before getting a waitperson to come to the table so that I could tell them that there was no shrimp. She looked at the salad a bit and then said that the kitchen had put octopus in the salad instead.

We've eaten breakfast at this restaurant several times and while the food is good, they just don't have what it takes. Coffee was not just cool but cold. The same salt shaker was still being used and they fnally brought a small amount on a plate. The waiter brought the coffee but failed to check to see if there was sugar on the table.

Add up all the small negatives and what do you get. I think I've given them a fair chance. I'll go somewhere else next time.

an easy walk to center of town; a bit more of a hike to La Ropa but the bus for six pesos presents a good option when going in that direction. This small hotel is spotless, the staff friendly, and the additiion this year of a small restaurant with excellent, well priced food is a real plus. The kitchen in our room was small and well equipped; not having to go out for every meal is a big plus. While the hotel is definetely family friendly we we pleased that there were not dozens of kids in the pool area...the vibe is a bit more attuned to adults who want a peaceful place to relax. We have stayed at many other hotels in the area in the past and have never gone to the same place twice. We have already booked rooms for a third stay at this wonderful spot next year...we feel we have a found the perfect place for our winter holiday.

Room Tip: all rooms have good views but the larger rooms closer to ocean have spectacular views.

We just spenT two weeks at the Don Andres and we fell in love! We already loved Zihua, but hadn't quite found the perfect place to stay. Now we have! It is owned by a local family and they pour all their time and love in to this gorgeous hotel/condos. Pearl and Alex are gracious hostesses that will try to meet your every need! Gustavo is the front desk man and he speaks very good english. He made calls for us, gave restaurant recommendations and generally answered everything we asked. The restaurant is brand new. We did pool snacks and were not disappointed. They also cooked a special cake for me on my birthday! They made it an extra special time. The first night we stayed, I thought the bed was too hard. I asked Gustavo about it and that day the maid arrived with a thick mattress pad, placed it on the bed and that solved my problem! We stayed in the penthouse and it is spectacular. The bed and bath are in doors, but everything else is outside. It is mostly covered, but the terrace area is OPEN AND HUGE and has the best view of the bay! There are two large ceiling fans - one above the kitchen area, one above the living room area that provide a constanat breeze. The bedroom is A/C for nights. We were never uncomfortable as far as temperatures. The kitchen doesn't have the best choice of dishes, but we weren't really into cooking anyway - we are on vacation! The only downside we could possibly come up with is that the WiFi in the pentouse is kind of isolated to the kitchen area (we told them they should buy a booster), but it was still totally usable. This would not stop us from going back again and again! The whole place was added on to and remodeled two years ago and it is so neat and tidy. We visited friends in a couple of the other rooms and everything is in great shape, clean and well taken care of. We loved it, give it a three thumbs up and highly recommend it!

Room Tip: They are all beautiful! Penthouse is spectacular!

Although we've been to Zihua many times, we moved to La Quinta for this trip because it had
the right arrangement of rooms for my wife and I, plus our 3 sons and their families. It
turned out to be a fine choice. Great view and breeze, clean comfortable rooms, easy beach access, and a short walk to all the restaurants, pier, shopping and entertainment Zihua has to offer. Alex is developing a reputation for fine dining right in the hotel too, and her prices are reasonable. The kids probably enjoyed the hours of wave jumping and boogy boarding on Playa Madiera at the base of the stairway, more than anything else we did that week. Never bothered to try out the TV or airconditioning, plenty of more active things to do outside, and the ceiling fan kept it comfortable at night. Added up to great memories, and a good value in this price range.

Room Tip: If you leave the sliding doors open at night like we did, it would be a bit more private and quieter...

We stayed here for 4 nights during the low season. We arrived without a reservation to stay anywhere and were able to shop around for a while before stumbling upon this place. The manager on site at the time, Gustavo, was very friendly and accommodating and we ended up staying in the penthouse on the top floor. It was exactly what we needed. The room was small but very nice and very comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the bay from our private terrace which was HUGE and we had our own kitchenette with a full size fridge, stove, toaster, coffee pot and microwave. We had everything we needed and never wanted to leave the penthouse! We heard the crashing ocean waves 24/7. It was heaven indeed. The pool was also beautiful and clean and there were plenty of comfortable lawn chairs for lounging around. All of the staff were very genuine, honest and friendly. They do have a restaurant at the hotel but we always ate out or up on our terrace. Margarita's is just down the road - about a 3-minute walk outside of the hotel. They had a superb breakfast with fast, friendly service and reasonable prices.

Room Tip: It's a small place and we checked out some of the other rooms, their view, etc. and thought that...
