“Terrific Tamale Time”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

My husband and I were lucky enough to join two new friends and attend a personal coking lesson with Claudia in her home. This was definitely a highlight of our trip to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo last week! Claudia and her husband, Alberto, were well organized and welcoming for this lesson. It was exciting to have the opportunity to learn authentic Mexican cooking and a bonus to be welcomed to their lovely home. A great afternoon of learning and laughter. Thank you, Claudia and we made sure to say hola to Coaldale for you Alberto when we drove through there on Friday!!

Thank you for your great review. It is so nice that you met new friends and were able to join them for a class with Claudia. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time at the home of Claudia and Alberto, and that you had a fun cooking class. Now you have a whole new perspective about tamales! We hope to see you again soon here in Zihua, and in Claudia's kitchen.

“Not for the "All-Inclusive" set”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

If your idea of a Mexican vacation is to remain shielded from the actual people and culture, then stay in your walled resort with bad Mariachi music and watered-down margaritas. BUT, if you want to learn, to explore, to experience the real Mexico, Claudia and Alberto offer a delightful experience.

We opted for the both market tour given by Alberto, and the cooking class by Claudia, and heartily recommend both. My wife and I were lucky enough to have them to ourselves on our visit, but no doubt it would have been as much fun with a group. Alberto met us exactly as arranged, and helped us navigate the narrow alleys of the open market, stopping to explain the layout of the mazes, the best bakery or butcher or carnitas (yum) available, and let us see through his critical eye, honed by years of local hotel restaurant work.

After a couple of hours of exploration, a feast for all the senses (why do we Americans try to mask a broad array of smells?), Alberto took us out of town by car to his home, a clean and humble house which he and Claudia built themselves. Claudia greeted us warmly, then put us to work. First we had to cut the requisite herbs from the garden, followed by chopping and cutting and slicing and mincing. It is amazing Claudia still has all her fingers, given the speed with which she wields a knife.

After preparing every last detail, we were treated to the object of our efforts with fresh corn tortillas, homemade salsa verde, and jugo de jamaica. Alberto walked us (we waddled) back to the main road where we caught the local bus (always a fun experience) back into Zihua.

Do yourselves a favor and experience some real Mexico!

“Cooking with Claudia”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

I first read about Cooking with Claudia on Zihua Rob's message board. After doing some research and then contacting Linda, I booked a session for myself and 4 friends to cook "Tortilla Soup" during our visit in February. Another lady from the Chicago area joined us. Our tour guide drove us to the basketball court at Los Achotes where we met Alberto, then walked to Claudia's lovely home. Claudia walked us through the steps of making authentic tortilla soup. We all took turns cutting and frying tortillas, blending the ingredients and "stirring the pot". We all walked away with the recipe. It was a great experience - Claudia and Alberto were great hosts! We ended the day a trip to Barra de Potosi where we enjoyed a few drinks and whole red snapper on the beach. Fabulous day. We look forward to "Cooking with Claudia" in 2015.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

Thanks, Claudia and Alberto for the delicious meals on our recent trip to Zihuatanejo. We arranged through Alberto to have Claudia come and cook two dinners for us. The food was excellent, the price was reasonable and Claudia and Alberto were pleasant and easy to deal with. We would highly recommend their cooking if you are heading to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo.

Thank you for your very nice comments about Claudia and Alberto. They normally offer market tours and cooking classes, but Claudia will sometimes prepare a meal for someone who asks. She is a very talented lady when it comes to food preparation, creativity, and teaching it as well. I am so glad you enjoyed your meals. We hope you will return to Zihuatanejo for another wonderful vacation and more delicious food from Claudia.

“Great experience with Alberto & Claudia”
Reviewed 17 February 2014 via mobile

Started by doing a Market tour with Alberto. It was great. He showed us a lot and explained many things. Then we were off to our cooking class. Claudia's program allowed us to pick our dish. She was very patient with us (we cut things slowly ). We had our dish for lunch and it was very tasty. We learned a lot about the local area from Linda which was an added bonus. Great experience.
