“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

I visited club intrawest with my husband and 3 kids. The place is so clean and kid friendly, don't get me wrong they have a good section for adults where kids are not allowed. We took turns to enjoy the sure bar and the adult area. Everything you need in a vacation is at this hotel. The staff was amazing since we arrived until the very last minute of our stay. Carlos, Luis and procoro did everything possible to keep us happy! I will plan to come back to zihuatanejo where we were treated like family. Quick tip: there are tours ... I tell you, every other place we visited like las gatas beach, playa Linda and playa madera are NO where near to the beach at the hotel. You will not miss out if you stay at the resort the length of your stay! Two things you MUST bring. Bug spray and after bite ointment. The Mosquitos are in this area after 5! That is the only thing that I can say negative about this location!

These reviews were all spot on! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and we could not have asked for a better place! I don't even know where to start... When we first got there we were greeted by Alma at the front desk with cold waters and scented towels. Alma was always smiling and so helpful everyday! Our room was just like the pictures you see on here and on the website. It's so amazing to be able to keep our doors open and be able to see outside if you were just sitting on your bed. It was mosquito season though and pretty humid so we chose to keep them closed. We did keep the blinds open so we could hear the ocean better at night. Speaking of mosquitoes, we were told by others at the resort that they bought the deep woods OFF spray. We didn't end up buying any and just dealt with it, but I would advise it (and anti-itch cream as well). The mosquitoes don't swarm around you or anything, you actually barely know you are being bit until you notice the itching later. Our room was sprayed twice during our stay which I could tell made a difference, but it really wasn't that bad as to where I wouldn't go back that time of year again.

Happy hour was always fun. It was low season, so it was usually all the same people down at the swim up bar. Everyone there was so nice too, it's like you have to meet the "nice and friendly" criteria before being allowed to stay there for something haha. The staff remember who you are as well, so you really do feel more like a friend or family staying there than a room number. Procoro and Alfredo were always smiling and helpful, asking how you are doing everyday etc.

To be more helpful here are some things we did or places we ate etc...

1.) romantic dinner on the beach (hence it was our honeymoon and all :) ): the staff set up 2 canopies about 3 hours before the dinner. That is how much time they put into making it special. Alfredo was our waiter and he just treated us like royalty. Now you will have people or locals on the beach during the dinner but we didn't mind it. There was a local guy making a sand sculpture in front of us who we later saw it was for a couples engagement photo, so that was kind of like entertainment even. Oh, and the food was excellent!!

2.) massage on the beach through the resort. Incredible and incredibly inexpensive ($20 for 50 min). I got mine at 10am, I swear no one woke up and came around until like noon there. Absolute silence but the waves crashing and thunder rolling in. And it wasn't as hot at that time, so I would recommend earlier times.

3.) market/cooking class through the resort. This was so neat, bc you went to the market with a guide and the head chef at the resort. We bought the food we were going to be making together at the market and of course you could buy other things too (we bought some vanilla). They gave us a lot of samples to try during the tour too and taught us about them. We would not have gone to this market had we not been in this group. This was a nice cultural experience that I wouldn't pass up! Then we came back to the restaurant where they had our own individual cutting boards etc and we chopped the ingredients as we watched them cook the ingredients for our lunch. This is when we got to know people at the resort and became friends with for the rest of the trip. The food was amazing and you got to keep the recipes.

4.) walking into town: there is a cement path that you can easily walk to within 5 minutes if that from leaving the resort. This path is right along the ocean, safe, and has pretty views as you go. We walked into town every time and walked back, it can be steep (downhill to tone, uphill back). Cab rides are very cheap too, many people did that but we liked the exercise. The market is huge in town and a lot of the same stuff. There are a lot of nice "boutique-like" stores downtown too. This was a bit of a walk, but we walked to the huge grocery store to get food for the week and there are cabs sitting there waiting outside. Inexpensive cab ride back.

5.) deep sea fishing: we went with ****. He walks along the beach, so the resort obviously doesn't recommend going through them but we knew other people did. We were safe, but we were out about 6-7 miles, big waves, took a Dramamine so we were fine nausea wise but....I was falling asleep the whole time. Didn't catch much but I blame my husbands bad fishing ora.

6.) food: the restaurant food was always good
- il maros ( 2 min walk from resort) Italian. Amazing view of Zihuatenjo
- Bandido in town
- patty's - a few min walk on beach from resort.

To wrap it up, this isn't your typical cancun/cabos night life/party atmosphere. It is nice and quiet and relaxing and you feel like you're the only resort that exists in Zihuatenjo. Ixtapa is more like that touristy feel. But if you want a relaxing, cultural place this is the place to go. PERFECT for a honeymoon!

This was our third trip to Club Intrawest (CI) in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. My teen sons love this place, mostly because the attractions on the beach are walking distance and inexpensive, so they can do pretty much any of them without us feeling pinched. It is also a lovely beach with bath temperature water, as well as a lovely hotel. This year we were able to get a one-of-a-kind 2bed,1500 sq ft room which was basically right on the beach. It has its own personal front yard, which they say is 600 sq ft, but feels double that size. It had not only the dip pool and patio stuff found on all of them, but a sand area with hammock and hanging king bed. It would be wonderful for people with young kids who need room to run around (fenced), or as the party house for a group going down there to meet up in. For us, we decided, as nice as the room was, we would prefer one higher next time as the party room had very limited view of the beautiful bay due to trees on the beach which blocked the view. Apparently the trees are protected so they are not even trimmed much. The sound of the waves was great, and I enjoyed the sound of the birds (Mexican crows?) which had a very exotic and varied sound. My son hated their loud noise. The last time we were there two years ago we were stuck in a room next to construction so we had constant jackhammering. I'd take the crows any day!! The cleaners came daily to sweep and make beds, and sometimes remade the cute little towel creature they put on your bed when you arrive. The "limo" drivers are great..and necessary to golf cart you to your room and back when you want to go out, or its about 175 steps up from that particular room to the top. Dennis is a long time limo driver there and a wonderful resource, so friendly. There is limited elevator use but it wasn't working. We all came home with about 40 mosquito bites this trip even though the office sent someone to spray 3 times.Hey, its tropical, so bugs are a part of that...bring "Off". We were there for the termite season before too, when lots of termites fly out of the thatched roof each night at dusk. It was also very humid this trip too (mid June), which made us not want to go out of the A/C very much the first two days. We are used to dry heat so those from the midwest and east may not be bothered by this as much. The hotel is built on a hill and you have to go down the other side of that hill to go anywhere so its a constant taxi ride, especially for those who have bad ankles like my husband. With less humidity it is possible to walk to the marina/bazaar area or market, especially down to it. There are nice restaurants a very short walk down the beach. Try Patti's or La Perla for fish tacos. We usually eat in for breakfast and lunch, then out for dinner. Room had washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, stove, frig and internet access. We had to do without power during the heat of the day for 7 hours one day as they were working on a transformer.
Before leaving to Mexico this year I was actually worried about our safety traveling in Mexico for the first time in my life. I knew I had always felt very safe there...remembered why when I arrived. The army and navy is located right in the middle of town next to the bazaar area. One new activity my son and I did this trip was painting a ceramic item (fruit bowl, plate, etc) ourselves right outside our room to take home as a souvenier. If you aren't painting yourself buy it at the bazaar, but to have something you or your child painted is priceless. Items ran about $10-$25. Other activities were parasailing ($20), skidooing ($30 for half hour), Kayaking ($6 for half hour), massage ($20 for 50 min), plus they had paddleboards, surfboards, fishing...just don't fall for the "RCI" sales gimmicks (timeshare sales) on the beach or at the airport, and don't be afraid to barter. Kids booked ATVing thru hotel for two hours too...one broke down halfway through and had to be towed back...no compensation of course. Club Intrawest is good about spraying your room or bringing you a pillow, but they won't be much help with bigger problems. I find that to be the case in general with CI...not very good customer service starting at the top if you have a problem. Their strength is finding great, relaxing locations with plenty to do without it feeling like a huge resort. Dolphin experience is great. Always ask a cab driver the price, even if the hotel gets it for you (more expensive) as it can cost you $3 or $6 to go to the same place (bazaar area). If you walk a block or two outside the gates of the hotel, there are loads of cabs which are cheaper. We only needed about $500 in Mexican money as most activities on the beach took American $ and for us it was a better deal as we got our money from the ATM rather than a bank (go to bank). Market takes American $ too. Direct flights from LAX were on time and smooth. Nice greeting at hotel with cold towel and cold water.

Room Tip: One of a kind room almost on beach is nice for gathering/kids. If you want a view, go with a room wi...

The staff greeted us like were family the moment we arrived, and continued to do so throughout our visit. The food was excellent--they have an award winning pastry chef on staff. We treated ourselves to the romantic dinner on the beach our final night. Well worth it, and very reasonably priced for a five course meal! We slept very comfortably, and were lulled to sleep by the ocean waves every night. The cleaning staff kept everything very clean, and left us beautiful swan made from towels everyday, decorated with different flowers. We didn't use the hotel spa, but the Rosario spa just outside the gate on the beach. But you can get massages on the beach there, as well. Nothing like it! We were impressed that a number of the staff have been there since the hotel opened--over 10 years now--which says a lot about how well the hotel treats its staff. We were especially grateful to both Eloys--in the restaurant and the front desk--Luis "Chicago's In The House," Cesaro, the restaurant manager. Oh, and you gotta love that infinity pool and in-pool bar! PLenty of great things to do on the beach, too, and in the area. We are going back for our 20th anniversary. Can't wait.

Room Tip: Six Oh Three is just below the restaurant and has an excellent view!

My wife and I have been here for three weeks. The staff treats us like family. The resort has all the amenities for a great vacation, plus it's right on the beach! Everything, from the villas to the swim up bar, the bugle at happy hour, the beach side lounges with food and beverage service have been outstanding. Marie, the GM, the valets, Luis, Dennis and Miguel have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome, as well as other staff members. Too many to list. Okay, Alfredo at the pool bar, can't forget him or David. They were always there to make another margarita or pop open a cool Negra Modelo!

We will miss everyone until our next trip back.

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, ask for a lower level room, near the pool. The staff will provide...

We have been to Zihuatanejo numerous times and had seen this hotel when it was being built. We stayed in a two bedroom which was huge. The kitchen is small but when on vacation who wants to cook. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. The views are great as you are on a cliff. The beach is really nice but in response to the people who pointed out that locals used it, really? They were nice. We did not get in the pool, which is a little small, because people were drinking in it all day and we never saw anyone use the restroom. Restaurant was closed most evenings we were there but the nights they were opened it had a very limited menu. A benefit we did not know was the availability of free washing machines and dryers. You do not have to pack as much. Also water from tap is fine.

This resort is beautifully designed along a cliff by the beach. There are very nice views of the ocean from most places on the resort. We were in a two bedroom suite with a large patio facing the ocean. The beach, playa LA ropa, is the best in the area. People at the resort are very friendly and helpful. Service is superb. Great place for a relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Room with an oceanview lookout is worth it.
