“A restful and beautiful getaway”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

It has taken me a few months to finally sit down and write this, but I had to because we had such an outstanding stay in Suite 1 at Amuleto in early December. We were fortunate to be the only guests there and Jacobo attended us very well -- always available and never intrusive. We enjoyed many meals there because the food is really quite good! The menu is extensive and they will do their best to make what you request. I suggest sticking to local specialties -- eggs benedict is a bit of a stretch, although I've suggested to the owner that they perfect this particular dish :-)

We have stayed a few times in a Special Master Suite at La Casa Que Canta which has its own charms (designed by the same architect as Amuleto). I can say that the bed and chairs and day bed are considerably more comfortable at Amuleto ( I used to request extra padding in advance of LCQC visits). It is a smaller hotel, though, and for those wanting beach access or quick rides into town, LCQC might be a better choice, although it's probably no more than 8 minutes by taxi into town from Amuleto. If you want quiet, rest and pampering, Amuleto is the place for it. We had a lovely in-room massage.

We would definitely stay there again and will probably do so in September. One thing I learned going in December is that the sun is low in the sky (it is winter, after all!) so you won't get much sun on your deck during the day. Going in summer or early fall will offer better sunning options.

Five thumbs up for Amuleto!

Room Tip: Suite 1 is where we stayed, open air (although you can close off the bedroom with glass doors for AC...

My husband and I couldn't ask for a more perfect honeymoon at Amuleto! We felt like royalty from the start, with staff pampering us with refreshing margaritas, guacamole, and unique flower designs on the bed each night. The views from the restaurant and our own private terrace were equally breath-taking. The most challenging part of our stay was deciding whether to relax by the infinity pool or our own private hammock and lounge chairs on our terrace! I already miss our outdoor shower!

Amuelto has excellent food! The breakfasts were so fantastic that I ate 3 times as much as usual. I certainly appreciated their fully-equipped gym, complete with exercise ball, water, and towels. I've never had a more beautiful view while on a treadmill! Amuelto is a spa in itself--we had massages on our private terraces--at a very reasonable rate!

Amuleto is a ten minute walk to the beach and a $5 cab ride to the market on Cinco de Mayo street. The staff was extremely helpful and fluent in English but patient enough to help with your Spanish if you want. Amuleto is a gem!

Room Tip: Make sure you get the hammock and outdoor shower!

We just returned home from our first visit and I can't begin to describe how relaxing and calming it is at Amuleto . . . pure heaven. We have already booked our return visit. The food and service are incredible but the view is the best thing of all. You can sit and look out on the bay for hours with your favorite beverage in hand and will wonder why you had not come to Amuleto before this.

My husband and I just concluded a weeklong visit to Amuleto and it was as special as our previous two stays. Everything about Amuleto is unparalleled--the view of the bay is spectacular, the palapas are retreats of beauty and tranquility, the restaurant is elegant (and almost fairytale-like, especially at night), the food is splendid and beautifully presented, and the service professional and personal. We traveled to Zihua despite the travel warning, and are very glad we did. We never felt threatened, but were always treated with kindness by shopkeepers, taxi drivers, or anyone else we came in contact with. As in the past, we had a marvelous, restorative, romantic week at Amuleto and look forward to a fourth visit!

I have traveled to Zihua for many years, but this was the first visit to Amuleto. The restaurant is simply amazing (we had the 5 plate tasting menu) and the view of La Ropa bay cannot be matched. To top it off, the staff is the most friendly and attentive in town. Daniella represents the best of Mexico and Emma was great as well. This will be our first stop the next time in Z.

From the moment you push on the big wooden door to the moment you take your last look at the bay overlooking Zihua, Amuleto just never stops amazing. Ricardo you have a winner, Emma and Jacobo are the best. Your chef's are master's and we will be back again and again.

Thank you for a wonderful dinner. Your entire establishment is world class.

May husband and I just returned from our most recent week-long visit to Amuleto and there really aren't enough nice things to say about this beautiful place. We have been to Amuleto at least one time each year for the past four years and just never get tired of it. Each of the six rooms is great and has a wonderful view of Zihuantanejo Bay and the Pacific. Most of the rooms have outdoor showers and patios from which to enjoy the view. The housekeeping staff does a great job and always serviced the room while we were at breakfast or dinner so we never really saw them. The food at Amuleto has always been very good, but this year we found it to be outstanding. The owners have redesigned the menus and execution by the kitchen staff was perfect at every meal. The food was so good that we couldn't bring ourselves to go "off campus" to eat. We ate every meal of our entire week at the hotel which we have never done at any other hotel and/or resort. While the rooms and food at Amuleto are great, to us, the best thing about any visit there is hotel owners and staff. Amuleto's owners, Ricardo and Neglia, run the place with attention to every detail. No detail is too small but at the same time they make you feel as though you are visiting in the home of a very good friend, who just happens to be a fabulous host/hostess. The hotel staff has been essentially the same faces since we began visiting Amuleto. Pablo, Jacabo, Juan and others gratiously attend to your every need/whim and couldn't make you feel more welcomed. They very clearly take great pride in the hotel and their jobs and the results show in the level of service we have enjoyed each time we visit. Just to make sure every base is covered, Amuleto even has a wonderful small boutique with items of clothing, jewelry, etc., collected by the owners from their home-city of Los Angeles and from around the world. Lastly, every year we read the "travel warnings" posted for this and other areas of Mexico. While we can only speak from our personal experiences, we have never had any problem whatsoever. Almost every morning, we have walked from the hotel down to La Ropa beach and some mornings on in to town. We have never had the first problem - not even the panhandlers you often experience in other areas. So, in short - go, enjoy and we thing you will likely repeat. Mike and Lee M.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but some have private splash pools and patios.
