This is our first visit to Cinco Sentidos and it will not be our last as we have already booked for our return visit for December, 2012. Heiko and Aracelli are perfect hosts--particularly Heiko who is more than accomodating, personal, and warm. He made us feel at home immediately with his easy manner and hospitality. What a wonderful man!
I mentioned to Heiko and Aracelli before we arrived that i am an "ant phobic" and sure enough they went out of their way to ensure our suite was thoroughly looked after. Of the 4 nights we only found a few carpenters ants but nothing to be alarmed about as we were provided with 2 bottles of Raid.
The entire premise as well as our suite are spotless and beautiful. The common areas are beautifully landscaped with many shrubs, trees, and flowers and the tile work is a work of art.
Their common infinity pool is extremely clean with a built in bench and table in the pool where i love to hang out with a drink and take a nap in the water. there is also a hot tub and another little pool with cooler water that my son liked so much. around the pools are 6 lounge chairs with umbrellas that have both shady and sunny areas depending what you like. it is never crowded and it is truly an oasis of tranquility.
the terrace with the 5 tables for breakfast has a view to die for...it overlooks the Zihua bay and playa la ropa and having breakfast here every morning is something we look forward to. Heiko is truly a master chef with his creations of pancakes infused with bananas with a piccolo cookies topped with a sprig of mint to make it look like a "fantasy island." To accompany this, there is also the sweetest and freshest orange juice ( no sugar and no water added to it); a plate of danish and bread with jams, yogurt, granola, and butter. Then there is of course all the amercian coffee you can drink. Breakfast is served from 8:30am to 10:30am.
Every day, the breakfast menu changes because Friday is the "fantasy island" pancakes, while Thursday is scrambled eggs with a side of chilaquiles and ham; Saturday is Eggs Ranchero; Sunday is slow cooked pork; and Tuesday is shrimp quesadillas. Sorry I can't tell you what is for monday or wednesday because we won't be here. on our next visit in december, i will be fortunate enough to have Heiko's shrimp quesadillas.
The hotel is only a 10 minute easy walk to Playa La Ropa where there are many restaurants like Patys, Elvira, El Manglar and etc. We particularly enjoy the food at El Manglar--especially their shrimp pasta alfredo. The walk back up the hill to the hotel is not as steep as everyone makes it out to be. You can easily climb it without being exhausted as Heiko taught us--traverse up or walk forwards then backwards. by traversing, the hill was very manageable and short so don't let that deter you from staying at Cinco Sentidos.
The staff here is first rate--the maid cleans thoroughly so there are no pests, moses, our waiter for breakfast is very conscientious, and daniel who will carry all your bags to your room for you.
Now our suite--a very large king bed with a large balcony that has a heated (just the right temperature) private plunge pool, a large hammock, and 2 lounge chairs all in your own privacy. I am sure if you went in your birthday suit in the plunge pool, no one will be able to see. in the day time, the view from our balcony is drop dead captivating--it overlooks playa la ropa, zihua bay and las gatas. the view from here is addicting. at night from the balcony you will have twinkling stars dance over you while dots of lights are across the bay.
of the 4 nights we spent at cinco sentidos, there have been days where i did not want to leave the premise for anywhere other than for dinner. imho, the pool and surroundings at the hotel is much more enjoyable and relaxing for me than the beach, but each to his own.
we can hardly wait to return in december for christmas to this little "paradise" on earth or as we call it, our own little "Xanadu." I hope everyone will enjoy Cinco Sentidos as much as we.
