“The only Americans there!”
Reviewed 21 November 2007

We didn't do a lot of research before our trip, rather just accepted our travel agent's recommendation. We visited with our two kids during the Mexican holiday weekend of November 20 and although the hotel was full, we were the only English speakers there. In terms of the staff, there was one front desk worker who did speak limited English. That's neither bad nor good but an indication that this is more of a local's hotel than a tourist resort.

The grounds are nice and well-tended but the rooms are older and basic (but clean), without many amenities. Our room rate was about $150 per night but that included breakfast and dinner for two of the three days. All meals were buffets and the selection was impressive and the food was quite good but not gourmet. Considering the price of the included meals for a family of four, I would say that the room price was reasonable.

The kids loved the three pools although there was nothing remarkable about any of them other than they were baking in the 80° sun all day. During the holiday weekend, they were crammed full of families.

Overall, this was a safe, clean place to stay but we would have been disappointed had we been looking for a resort vacation (although I don't know why you'd be looking for a resort vacation in Cuernavaca). La Quinta (?) is about four blocks away and the grounds are much nicer and looks like it caters to a higher caliber (and more European/American) crowd but I did not see the rooms. La Mañanitas is apparently THE place for a resort vacation in the city.

We made it to Cuernavaca from the Mexico City airport in 2 hours on the quite-nice bus service ($50 US for four) with a bit of traffic. We returned to the airport in a private car ($130 US) with little traffic in 1:20.

My wife and I stayed at Jacarandas in April 2005 with our 4 teenage daughters. We stayed in one of the many family rooms around the main pool. With two double beds and two singles this was great value for money. The hotel is a little frayed but this only adds to the charm and the grounds are an oasis of calm in the bustle of Cuernavaca, with peackocks roaming free. The place is unpretentious and the staff are very friendly. Out of season it can be very quiet during the week but bustling with Mexican families at weekends. The breakfast buffet was very good and will set you up for the day. Apart from the two main swimming pools there is a rock pool which is nice and shady in the heat. A local tennis coach is based at the hotel and so lessons are available. He speaks no English but we got by and he worked the socks off me.

Somewhat dingy hotel with several small swimming pools, which were very cold. The grounds were pretty, but the food was so-so and the rooms were somewhat dingy. I'd recommend staying somewhere else in Cuernavaca. There are plenty of better options.
