“Casa Alegria A Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2008

I can’t imagine why there is a negative review of Casa Alegria in Cuernavaca, our recent time there was more than we could have imagined. My family reserved two rooms at Casa Alegria for 4 nights in March and from the moment of contact our impression was very favorable. Lety and her husband are warm and friendly hosts, and made our stay very special. Their bed and breakfast is immaculately clean and has many comforts, our room had a private bathroom with spa tub, cable tv and wireless internet access (of course that means you bring your own laptop). The swimming pool is delightful and a relaxing place to sun and read. The gardens are beautiful, very well cared for and obviously well loved. Each morning we had continental breakfast (as advertised on their website…that means fruits, breads, etc) with gourmet coffee before we headed out for our daily sightseeing. Lety was very helpful in providing tourist information telling us about the buses to our destinations and explaining the highlights of what we should see.

For those on a budget, Cuernavaca is not an inexpensive city to visit, there are fabulous restaurants you should visit, but expect prices much like those in the U.S. Since hotels in Cuernavaca can be several hundred dollars per night, we found Casa Alegria to be very well priced for what it offers the guest. Air conditioning is not often found in Cuernavaca, and you won’t find heat, you just don’t need either.

Casa Alegria is a small piece of paradise and Lety and Abel kind and generous hosts.

We saw their rating back in Aug it was #1 on tripadvisor so we booked directly through their website. There were 5 of us so we got all 3 rooms. We got there in the evening, it seemed nice and the people that live there seemed nice as well, but that was soon to channge. The first morning breakfast was fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, and corn flakes. The next 3 days we got the same exact fruit that we didn't finish from the day before, that goes for everything else they fed us. The second morning we all headed out for El Rollo waterpark and we had no idea that the 2 people that were leaving later that nite needed to remove their 2 small bags out of the 3rd room that we didn't need anymore. Lety the B&B owner knew that we would be gone all day because we clearly stateted that when we booked, and she failed to mention that we needed to move the 2 bags, and when we returned in the evening she came upstairs to the other 2 rooms and charged us for the 3rd room that nite which we didn't even use. The 2 people that had to leave that evening needed to use the computer to find out their flight information but Lety would not let them use it, even though on their website it says that they have a computer with internet for use. We just called the airlines which took forever to fiqure out how to call out from an American Cell Phone. After the 2 guys left if was just 2 females and my younger brother, I guess Lety thought less of us now and this is when she got really creepy. We couldn't swim in the pool after it got dark, had to go to bed early because they sleep early, it was noisy in the morning, she would come wake us up, and the doors had no locks, there's no A/C and the water wouldn't drain in the bathtub, and the waterpressure was terrible. The morning after the guys left we still had 2 days left in our reservation, that morning Lety came and charged us for the remaining days. That same day she approached my younger brother and asked him about a pen she let us borrow, I guess it was misplaced and we apologized to her, but she decided to give us a huge speach about how she let us into her home and we disrespected her and her stuff. She told us it was very special and could not be replaced and we heard about it for the next 2 days, Finally the last day we went out to the market before we had to leave, and we left our luggage in the "lobby" because Lety said we could and should, apparently she had plans, when we arrived back home to Dallas we realized that we were missing a camera and who knows what else, it had been stolen and the only place we left our luggage was at her B&B.

This place is clearly a house, the people live there and they only have 3 rooms for rent which are way overpriced! The owners expect you to go by their schedule, and rules, and you have absolutely no privacy. Stay away from this place if you can, unless you enjoy people watching you.

Frankly, we chose to stay at this B&B based upon reviews from this site and were terribly disappointed! The room was dingy and smelled musty. The room was on the street/alley and a garbage truck rolls down the street every other day at 7:00 a.m. The truck is loud and rings a bell every few minutes. There was no A/C, so we had to leave the windows open for fresh air. Dogs barked all night. The breakfast was cold cereal or toast, yougart, and fresh fruit on the first morning that was recycled and sat out for us every morning for the remaining 7 days we stayed as we ate it down. It was pretty gross after a few days. Coffee was weak and by the end of the week, the milk had soured. The owner and her husband dined om traditional breakfasts every morning. We could see the dishes sitting out as we moved around our cereal, wishing we could have been included in the beans, chorizo and tortillas they ate. I wish we had chosen a different place and would not recemmend staying here, unless you are looking for very low frills at a pretty high cost.

Casa Alegria was wonderful. I attended an Immersion school while in Cuernavaca and it was so nice to return and swim. The owners are fabulous, knowledgable of local attractions, and helpful. It is clean, comfortable, and elegant. Staying there made my trip enjoyable.

We just returned from a three-night stay at Casa Alegria. The room was clean, spacious, and charming. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. When we arrived, my wife was sick, and the propietor arranged an immediate doctor visit for her (who paid a house call--she never had to get out of bed!). Highly recommended.

Just returned from another stay at Casa Alegria in Cuernavaca and I continue to rave about this small bed and breakfast. Our room with private bathroom (one of three rental rooms in the home) was quiet, comfortable and well appointed. I looked forward to our breakfast with the owners and other guests each morning, and a dip in the heated pool each afternoon. This continues to be one of my favorite accommodations in Cuernavaca. But book early, the word is out that this is the place to stay.

  • Liked — The feeling that I was away from it all
  • Disliked — Just a bit far to walk to the historical sights, but taxis were cheap

Our family spent 5 wonderful nights at this small, out of the way B&B in Cuernavaca. Although it was a little difficult to find, once found was an oasis in the midst of a bustling city.
Our rooms were large very comfortable, with beautifully tiled bathrooms. The common areas were filled with beautiful artwork. The brick domed ceilings in each room created an unusual acoustic. Our hostess, Lety, was accomodating at every turn with excellent transportation and sightseeing advice. Breakfast was filling and ready each morning as we left the house to explore Cuernavaca and neighboring cities. Taxi rides to the city central and bus stations was a very reasonable $2.00. The pool was beautifully lit each night and refreshing 65 degrees. Flowers were abundant on the private balcanies and walls of the garden surrounding the pool.
We highly recommend this B&B and hope to stay there again soon.
