“Great Hotel!”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

Santiago De Compostela was in a great location. We stay in room 324 two double beds and balcony to the plaza. The room had a double or queen bed, closet space, sink separate from toilet and shower, vanity/desk and TV. The rooms were very clean and in good shape. Two bottles of water were provided everyday.

Room Tip: Room 324--- Lovely room

This place saved the day - as I was in GDL for 4 days and was bored to tears. The hotel is well-located, near what little there is to do here. Good wifi, great breakfast, nice staff, nice rooms, fantastic piano-playing man in the evening. The only downside was the showers were warm, but not hot. Who cares - I like this place. But I won't return, as this city was a huge lefdown.

We arrived early and, thankfully, with reservation on August 30th, 2013 for one night. They let us check in before noon and park our car underground. The hotel is across the street from a lovely old Church and park. Our room was beautiful; overlooking the street, 12' ceilings, old-world charm with a jacuzzi tub. Bed was firm but comfortable. We were glad the air conditioner blocked most of the noise from the street. We were right downtown, so we didn't expect total quiet. Hotel is close to all attractions, a couple of blocks to the Guadalajara Cathedral. We took a wonderful horse and carriage ride for over an hour from across the street from the hotel.
In the evening a piano man played in the cozy lobby open to upper floor mezzanines. We stayed for a couple of margaritas. The friendly bartender had worked there for 25 years and was very much a gentleman.
We will stay there again.

Santiago De Compostela was in a great location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a lovely, though short, stay in this hotel filled with character. Unfortunately we didn't find an opportunity to utilize the outdoor pool - but it looked lovely. It was unfortunate that the bar and sitting area next to the pool was not open as I would find that quite enticing. The only other small downside was that the beds are pretty hard, but I have found in all of my Mexican travels that most beds are hard or on the hard side. I still slept great after previous travels thorugh Mexico, staying in slightly less comfotable spaces. The next time I go to Guadalajara I will be booking a room at Santiago De Compostela (online because it is often a bit cheaper).

We arrived to Guadalajara very early in the morning. The hotel was able to give us a cup of coffee and let us check in at 7 am. We had an absolutely wonderful room on the 5th floor, very near the rooftop pool.

I would recommend booking the room on the hotels website directly. It helps if you speak spanish. We paid less than 50 US$ per night.

After traveling to the beach at Manzanillo and Colima, we decided to return to the hotel as we liked it so much. A simple call to the hotel and our former room was reserved for us.

stayed there Sept 22, 2011 and paid 1,100 pesos (at 13x1) for jr. suite 324, with park view, which we wanted with all the inherent noise, as we live in the desert and need some stressy sounds twice a year. The hotel is quite okay, 3 blocks from Sanborns and right at pedestrian shopping area. However downtown GDL is not really a shopping area by euro or American standards, it;s a mix of hardware stores, junk food and factory "boutiques". The hotel staff was average friendly and the place was clean, yet uninspiring, free underground parking. Compared to Morales and de Mendoza, same thing, really, if you're driving, great spot to get into and out of city, right turn and 10 minutes to Tlaquepaque, left and 4 blocks then left again, 20 minutes to Vallarta Avenue, shopping and dance clubs, restaurants galore. So for 2 days in GDL, especially with a car and or needing taxis, I'd say not a bad place, just don't expect colonial furniture or fixings....

Room Tip: while naturally noisy, park view rooms are most attractive, watch the chaos below and listen to cath...
