Want to go to back to year 1910 :) Old school hotel with excellent staff, service and atmosphire. Room was brilliant, very roomy, old, little "tired" but somehow very friendly. I dont know, go and see yourselves!

Hotel is one minute walk from Plaza de la Liberacion and few minutes from Cathedral and Plaza de Armas.

Very safe to walk everywhere in Centro, lots of police with bicycles :)

I stayed two nights at this hotel which is ideally situated in the El Centro (historic) district. When I checked in, I could hear a choir singing from the church across the street. The neighborhood felt safe and there were many families out and about in the evening, enjoying the public squares.

My room was located on the second floor, facing an inside courtyard. It had a lovely view of the pool from a large veranda furnished with four chairs and a low coffee table, surrounded by plants.

The room was not extravagant by any means, but comfortable with two double beds, a small desk and good sized TV. The bathroom was clean and included a shower but no tub.

Breakfast in the dining room next to the lobby was sit-down service only (no buffet), which is fine if you have time in the morning, but I found it took too long for business travelers who needed to get going early.

There is a rooftop terrace on the 5th floor available for group functions (we had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres) which offered nice views of the neighborhood.

I would definitely recommend this hotel as a base for those interested in exploring the historic area of Guadalajara on foot.

Hotel is a 1/2 block from the Main Cathedral square and 2 blocks from the heart of shopping in Guadalajara. It was a nun's convent before it's life as a hotel. It is also the hotel that all the dignitaries and celebrities stayed at over the last 50 or so years. It has recently been redone and upgraded in both its soft goods as well as the physical attributes of the building. It is about a three star quality hotel that is newly upgraded so price wise it's a good buy to be so centrally located. Surrounded by little cafe type restaurants for quick and inexpensive meals. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Mattresses are new and very hard ask for a soft mattress if you can't sleep on a hard one.

Stayed for 4 nights with a friend, this was our first visit to Mexico. Am so glad that we decided to check out Guadalajara and the Hotel de Mendoza!

Staff were really helpful and gave us some fantastic local knowledge of places to eat/drink/party/etc... The building is in a quiet little street only minutes walk to the centre of town. There was a corporate party on the roof one night and we decided to pop in for a drink, they were really happy to let us join in and we made some friends.

The rooms are average for an older style hotel, and the pool is a good place to cool down after walking around the city. I would recommend this hotel for singles, couples, business travellers or families.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies, ask for one when you check in!

We ended up at the De Mendoza for 3 nights after a bad experience with a booking at Hotel Morales.

All the staff were very friendly and accommodating, from the front desk staff to the cleaning staff. "Erfain" (sp?) the porter/doorman was extremely helpful with information, directions, taxis, tours and restaurant recommendations/reservations.

Our room was spacious, clean and modern (which was unexpected given that a lot of the charming original old features of the hotel in the public areas seem to be intact). We had a small wrought iron balcony which faced out over the pool, with a view of the dome of the church next door - lovely! We sat out there one night, ordered a bottle of wine from room service and listened to the live music from the square.

The hotel is right by the main square, and walking distance to just about all the main plazas, churches, and downtown pedestrian malls.

The included breakfast is very good (choice of continental, American or Mexican) and once again the dining room staff are very friendly.

This hotel was good value and enhanced our enjoyment of our 3 days in Guadalajara.

Room Tip: Interior rooms overlooking the courtyard and pool (floor 2 or higher) have balconies and are quiet.

We have stayed here every year form the past 4 on our way to Guanajuato. It used to be a good value for the price, but it has dropped off. No longer quiet, I have music blasting into my room and it's 11:30pm. At 1,000 pesos the price is to high for what you get. Dinner was the worst I have had anywhere in years, canned, overcooked pasta and limp salad, eat anywhere else. We told the waiter when he asked, but no apology or effort to reduce our bill. We will be looking for a place that is more accessible to the highway, a better price and better food.

can't beat the location. About a block from the main square. It's a little expesive for what you get. Location is 4 star, the rooms are average.

Breakfast is also a little pricey---walk around the square and you'll find a better deal on breakfast.
